Does anyone know how Beyond is tracking for its opening weekend?

Hmm

Paramount Pictures is looking to supercharge “Star Trek Beyond” ticket sales — in a few select markets in the U.S. and Canada — under a two-week marketing pact with Atom Tickets, a studio-backed mobile-ticketing provider.

For Atom, the deal is its first “360 degree” campaign with a studio partner covering multiple promotional elements. The startup’s execs have their fingers crossed that the campaign will demonstrate the power of its socially oriented, mobile-first ticketing service.

Launching ahead of the movie’s July 22 debut, the “Star Trek Beyond” campaign with Atom Tickets will feature a 15-second co-branded in-theater spot will run over a two-week period at AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas where Atom Tickets is live. As part of the promo, first-time Atom users are eligible to get one free ticket to “Star Trek Beyond” (subject to availability and terms and conditions).

I saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. I will probably do my part, and go see it a few more times while it's in theatres.

Good WOM should assist this one. Reviews so far have been positive .

I was really surprised at how empty my theater was for the 7:00 showing. Also, there was no trailers, which I thought was weird but really welcome.

The July 22nd release date is plastered all over the promotion for them movie, maybe a lot of people don't know it was released early.

In my case, the amount of people that see movies here is pretty seasonal (it's a resort-vacation area) so it's hard to tell what the rest of the nation is doing just by theater attendance, but I'll report how full the movie is today. The previous two movies had full theaters on our first viewing.

It could be tracking ahead of STID in advance ticket sales but this has been an exceptionally poor summer for most movies, even BvS underperformed at 800m!

None of this makes sense really..it's outselling STID in advanced ticket sales at Fandango, yet the tracking is lower??

Yeah something's not adding up is it? I'm hoping it's just a conservative estimate from the studio so they don't end up with egg on their faces like when they were targeting a 100 million start for STID. Maybe it's just the crowded schedule - you've got Ghostbusters and The Secret Life of Pets hoovering up 50million of the available dollars this weekend alone.

BvS made almost $900 million, it can't really be called a disappointment.

BvS made a lot of money but definitely underperformed based on expectations. How funny would it be if Suicide Squad (their secondary DC Universe product) ended up making more bank than the film they expected to set the foundation of the entire franchise.

Previews are looking in the $5-6m range which should put it on track for the low to mid 60s (assuming an 18-20m true Friday number). If it stays flat between Friday (with previews added) and Sat then I'd say mid 60s. If it has an increase from Fri to Sat we could get closer to $70m. It is tough to compare to STID because that movie was released on a Thur so the numbers are skewed a bit.

It was believed to need to make 1 billion due to the amount of marketing and budget behind it! It was supposed to be the launching platform for DC. Pretty insane.

Where are you getting the preview numbers from? I can't find any information.

These are just estimates from people who work in theaters extrapolating their numbers nationally. The actuals will come out later (as will more accurate estimates). Unfortunately I have to go out in the field today and won't be able to obsessively track the numbers. Boxofficetheory and IMDB forums are good places to find early info.

I'm happy with $5m or above. Anything above $6m is great as far as I am concerned given our more modest expectations for this installment.

It is being reported that the film took in $5.5 million from Thursday night sneaks. This is not a bad number, but not huge. I think it is safe to say with the positive reviews Beyond should AT WORST hit the high $50s. Most of the outlets (here and other places over the last couple of days) have been zoning into the low $60 range. I personally would love to see it approach or break $70 million as that would be a nice surprise at this point.

With a $5.5 sneak number.....it is all about word of mouth and last second buzz. Safe to say the bottom won't fall out, just hoping for a good to great number.

It disappointed me. ;)

I probably display the same lack of enthusiasm for "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman" as those Trek fans who detest Bad Robot's Trek films. I did go to see them, sense of duty and resigned loyalty, but I much prefer other versions of Superman and Batman. But if you don't see 'em you can't discuss 'em! ;)

Star Trek Beyond” grossed an impressive $5.5 million in its preview screenings on Thursday night.

That’s a stellar beginning at the box office for Paramount and Skydance’s third reboot of the 50-year-old franchise. It’s in line with the $5.25 million that the most recent James Bond flick, “Spectre,” grossed in its first-night screenings last November.

With $5.5m in previews I'm going to assume around an 18m Friday, a flat Saturday and a 20% drop for Sunday which would put STB around $66m. I can live with that. I see a worst case scenario of $53m and a best case of around $74m.

Uhhh, I think that math works out to $56m.
