Because of the age old trope of men and women can't be friends. Why are people assuming Number One is in love with Pike?
Annoying and painful.

I've seen the scene a bunch of times. It's a very olden days manly exchange. But the relationship is nicely drawn.
Why are people assuming Number One is in love with Pike? They seem to be close friends and colleagues who've known each other for years. She isn't holding a torch for him or anything like that...
"...The female you call Number One has the superior mind and would produce highly intelligent children. Although she seems to lack emotion, this is largely a pretense. She has often has fantasies involving you."
I'm just going to dismiss this as a problem with the Keepers not knowing how humans work. I mean they couldn't even put Vina back together in the right arrangement.Maybe because of this line from The Keeper that is in both TOS The Cage, and The Menagerie:

IDK - They didn't know how to put her back together because they couldn't read her mind when she was comatose. After 13 years or so of 'picking her brain' (literallyI'm just going to dismiss this as a problem with the Keepers not knowing how humans work. Yes, but you have to let go of notions while keeping the appropriate notions.I feel like you're being willfully obtuse. It was a joke challenging your assumptions about how the Trek of the 20th century should be reflected in the Trek of the 21st. We have to let go of some outdated notions (or at least I do, as a woman) or I couldn't watch this show at all.
Hard to say really. I don't think anyone was predicting Sybok of all people to show up, but he did.To answer the OP, I think it is highly doubtful.
