Do you think Uhura will hook up with someone in S3?

Again, I would rather watch a romance unfold that I knew could go somewhere. I know I just said it's theoretically possible for something like Spock/Chapel to happen, as well as Pike/Batel to get a reprieve or La'an to hook up with her crush (no spoilers). But I don't think any of those things are going go happen. Whatever happens with Spock and Chapel, we have to know that it's in the cruel crosshairs of canon. A romance featuring, say, Ortegas could go the distance. Is it wrong to hope for something like that?

I don't think I'm attached to anyone having a particular romance, or continuing to be happily single, but it will be great to see what the writers actually come up with.

Single women are the currently happiest people in the modern world. She doesn't need a relationship for completion, though maybe this Scotty could be her dear friend with benefits.
Totally agree. I especially appreciate that with Uhura. She seems to coming into her own sense of self-worth without it being dependent on someone else to be happy.

My first thought was the real counterpart of this guy: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Unnamed_Starfleet_personnel_(illusory)#Crewmember_001

But based on their dialogue, he might have been an amalgam of people she'd seen in the past/her perfect man, for she doesn't recognize him when asked later.
Could be. I hadn't realized until looking at the link you shared how many times different characters have interacted with people or beings, that were illusionary.

While I'd be happy to see Uhura find someone she likes, I'm not entirely sure that SNW cares about her that much.

Based on season 2 the writers seem to be keeping her in living solo mode like TOS Uhura. 20th century TV depiction of black female characters as romantic interest was close to zero, hopefully SNW will break that practice, at least 21st century TV is a little better.

That may be the case, but like you, I hope they break that practice for the next season.

I truly hope not, not to deny her relationship and/or romance (cue TOS “Romance Music Riff) but because I really like how her character is developing. I don’t know if it needs a “partner” to keep on its path.

Agreed.

I find the tendency towards romance to be used more as a cheap way to create drama than anything substantial. Yes, it can be done but I have limited interest in romance in Trek.
