do you think it's wise for the producers of the picard show to keep the details so close to the vest

I don't know about Midnight's Edge, but it seems commonsense that the Picard Show will be in the same style as Discovery and not fit into the TNG era or be recognisable as such and be filled with the same annoying, obnoxious Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Clueless type characters Discovery has. Picard or some of the characters will likely use expletives just to demonstrate just how "different" it is from original TNG.
Art as a reflection of culture. Why would we want more of the same?

They did that (expletives) in the TNG movies. In fact, the aesthetics of everything after Generations was distinct from TNG. I don't see a problem with any of this.

I can imagine the Picard show featuring "flashbacks" of the Enterprise D with the bridge redesigned to look like it is from a JJ Abrams Star Trek movie with entirely different uniforms, Worf made to look like a purple Discovery Klingon and the recast crew portrayed completely out of character and radically different in appearance. Of course it will still be regarded as "canon".

If it happned on screen it would be canon but nothing like you describe is actually going to happen.

That's a lot of money for little point. Their target is Picard as he is responding to a recent crisis, not his prior service.

That's a lot of negativity for no reason.

They'll just use footage from TNG like they used footage from TOS in Discovery.

Also "purple Discovery Klingon". Clearly you haven't watched all of Discovery with that statement.

That'll be the Irumodic Syndrome. Or general unreliable narrator syndrome, especially if Picard has hair and is shredded in the flashbacks.:p

"There was this time when some Klingons invaded the ship, I had just finished making love to counselor troi, Tasha Yar and your mum. I got to the bridge, and worf was crying like a girl. I beat up all the Klingons on my own".

"This never happened!"

"SHUT UP WESLEY!"

Why are you repeating the plot to Nemesis? ;)

First scene is Picard and company around a campfire singing row row row your boat.

Or maybe Gilbert & Sullivan? :)

Seriously, at the risk of channeling my inner curmudgeon (as usual), when did audiences start demanding to know everything about an upcoming project from the moment it's green-lit? In my day, we were lucky if we got a Starlog article and maybe a preview in TV GUIDE not long before a new show aired and yet somehow we survived. We didn't need to know about this stuff months in advance or expect total transparency when it came to all the behind-the-scenes ups and downs.

I understand being curious, but I'm sure there will be plenty of promotion and publicity when the time comes . . . . .

Completely agree. In my opinion BTS production details don't need to be released at all and the fact that they keep teasing is a disservice to the production teams.

We're getting a show. That's sufficient for me.

The merchandise claim is goofy, i can already tell you exactly what we're getting out of the Picard show:

PocketBooks - books
Eaglemoss - spaceship models
Anovos - costumes
QMx - insignia badges

Yes. Keep it all secret. Starve the clickbait sites, let them make up whatever stuff they want. Concentrate on making a great show, and maybe do the typical amount of publicity before airing.
