Do you have an iPhone?

Couple of weeks ago, I was in the Apple store and starting playing around the iPhone once again. Needless to say, I cracked and purchased it. Of course, things would have been a lot different had my contract with my previous provider hadn't been up at the time, but I decided to go for it.

The best part was, the cell phone I had before this one, an LG Decoy; cool phone, easy to use, slick design....... if it was 2006. I couldn't do anything with this phone. Couldn't even go online, check e-mail, chat, none of that. I'm a tech-savvy guy, so I need all that stuff at my disposal. The worst part was, I had a data plan in place and it couldn't be taken off, because I HAD to have it, according to my provider. Not to mention the fact that my 450 minutes a month didn't roll over to the next. I had to pay $70.00 each month for services I was barely using.

So I thought, "If I'm going to pay $70 per month, I'm going to do it with a phone that, in my opinion, is worth it."

So here I am now with my shiny new iPhone 4. I have no complaints. First off, the monthly plan I have is very reasonable. Like my prior provider, 450 minutes each month - remaining will be rolled over, though I don't know what it caps at, plus a 2 gig per month data plan - though I may tone that down as I'm given unlimited use when I'm connected to WiFi. I'm connected to WiFi almost always as it is, so I may bring it down to the 200MBs per month.

Service has been good. I haven't had any dropped calls or suffered through any of the horror stories that I've heard about this. I really like this phone!

Does anyone else have one?

EDIT: I still refuse to get an iPad, though!

The only way I would get one would be with all of the features and an unlimited download plan so I could use it as a toy, and I'm not going to pay $100 a month for a cellphone plan, and I'm certainly not going to lock myself in with a three year contract to get one.

I have a 3GS, and still love it, even though it doesn't do video chat, or have the fancy screen, or take HDR photos. A lot of people I know either just got their first, or were a year behind me in the cycle and hit upgrade time, so I've seen a lot of 4s around. No one I met actually had a problem with their antenna, though they all complained about the faulty proximity sensor that caused face-dialing. From what I've heard in the last few days, the new software update fixed it as promised.

I don't have one yet but I am looking for a used 3Gs. My current phone is an old Nokia E65 - an ok phone, but kinda slow and uncool. I can't take a year-long plan because I'll be moving countries next summer so I was thinking I'd just get a simlockfree used 3Gs and a cheap data plan.

I have an iPod touch and I plan on getting headphones with the mic and for $30 a YEAR I can used Skype and make unlimited calls in wifi zones.

For a person like me who's absolutely not interested in any internet social networking sites, who doesn't need to check emails for the few hours he's at work or not at home and for a person who still thinks a mobile phone should be used as a phone or a SMS device an iPhone is a total waste.

I for sure won't be tied down to a single provider and locked in a multi-year contract just so i'm "allowed" to legally use the phone to its fullest potential.

I've seen enough iPhones to realize they are just shiny and expensive toys.. there are enough touch screen smartphones (i own a Samsung one.. pretty decent for a fraction of the cost) out there to suit most needs without all the regulations and pitfalls of an iPhone.

To me an iPhone is the equivalent of an everyman's genital extension, i.e. for people who can't own an expensive sports car or have a villa of their own.
Nobody really needs an iPhone but Apple is supposedly cool and it's cool to own an Apple device nowadays.

I have a 3G, which now finally doesn't suck again (yay 4.1) but I am going to get an iPhone 4 when I can (they've supposedly been out in Canada for a month but I have yet to find a place with any in stock).

I don't even have a Touch. I don't particularly need the fancy interface, and *definitely* don't need the internet access (that's why I have an iPad ). Besides, as I've said before, I find my iPod Classic much easier to operate in my car.

Meh, the Touch was my very first MP3 player. Before I bought this last year, I was still just using CDs. I don't really use any of the features, but I do enjoy being able to watch videos on occasion.

I don't get caught up in the Cell Phone wars. It's like your were not able to discuss politics and religion without getting into an argument, now you have to add Cell Phones. Android make some very good phones, if they work for you great. I like competition, it makes both sides improve their products. I think the entire Cell Phone world should thank Apple, they made people want smartphone outside of using them just for work. Blackberry was making some inroads but the iPhone broke open the door. Now cell phone companies can sell more expensive smart phones to customers and make more money. Let's hope that they all can figure out and expand their network so we can get better reception and use these things that we have.

I don't think Treo gets enough credit for the inroads they made in spreading the smartphone market outside of just the business market.
