Do repeated viewings of Star Trek 09 hold up so far?

Uh, yes.  At this point it's scripture.

A week and several more viewings after this comment and it still holds true.

This film is not like the first film: Star Trek the Motion Picture, which although was a great film and the directors cut even better was not really a Star Trek experience, that film took itself way too seriously and tried to hard to be 2001 a Space Odyssey in style and pacing. This film on the other hand which really is a new first film even though its the eleventh Star Trek film so far does have a sense of humor, still has that Star Trek optimism, has the fastest pace so far, a great story, great character development is very much a true Star Trek film.

The reason this film is going to hold up so well is because unlike many previous Star Trek series and movies the characters in it are flawed realistic and very three dimensional human beings who go through a story arc, changing and growing, which I believe over the years will continue to happen in the films as the characters mature, and by mature I don't mean get old I mean they will become characters that are familiar, comfortable, and likable, characters that will change and grow through many stories in the future films.

I look forward to the journey on the big screen!:techman:

My most recent viewing was the best one yet, as I bought the RiffTrax gang along with me this time...

It made the movie a LOT more enjoyable!:techman:

I think we will experience them growing throughout this new movie series and mature to the crew that was more experienced in the original series.

Definitely holds up for me. I actually enjoy the movie even more than in theatres now. The shaky-cam stuff doesn't bug me like it did when I first saw it, and the plot-holes actually don't bother me as much anymore.

I'd rank it as the best movie of 2009.

Now that I own The Abomination on DVD, and have screamed myself hoarse watching it several times, I am getting better at "watching around" the stuff that pissed me off. To be honest, I think Trek films in general haven't been all that great from day one (Trek is, for me, a predominantly television phenomenon. The movies are awkward giant kin spawned off by studio expectations.) --and just about every one of them has stuff in it that I have to "watch around" in order to enjoy the movie.

The stupid stuff is still annoyingly stupid, but I am slowly being able to appreciate the things I found to be fun.

I find myself particularly fascinated by the background aliens. They're different from what we've seen before and that sort of thing always intrigues me. (Dr. Anime-Eyes and The female bridge officer that isn't Sil from Species but sure looks a lot like her to me, are my favorites.)

Over all, I'm sorry, but I like Space Truckers a whole lot more than this...movie. But I am growing able to watch it without thrashing around or cussing loud enough to upset the neighbors.
And that's Progress. Of a sort.

I just hope like hell that they avoid ANY borrowing from TOS for the next movie and give us something genuinely new. I would grumble about rebooting, but I would probably still enjoy something really NEW.
Two cents. On the table. *tap* *tap*

The performances were universally good (although Amanda had none of her sense of humour - I think NuVulcans may have given her a lobotomy). Plot holes and changes to established Treknology will always annoy me but overall it's an enjoyable romp.

Seen it twice so far. I enjoyed it more on the second viewing. I have the DVD but haven't watched it yet. Still working through my DS9 and TNG DVDs!

Well, I agree that Trek's true home is on TV. You can do more cerebral stories, and have more time to flesh out characters and arcs. The movies have to appeal to more than just the fans to make money, so generally they have to be big-budget effects fests.

As long as its recruiting new Trekkies, that's fine by me. But I do worry that these new fans will just move on to whatever the next popular fad is, as soon as the hype for this movie has died away.
