What do you guys think of the design?

It looks like something somebody came up with at the last minute. Luckily for us, thanks to the magic of CGI they have three years to improve upon it.

It addresses my biggest issue with the original design, the too-close warp engines. I have a couple minor quibbles (the nacelles should extend a bit further forward of the pylons, and the markings on the lower saucer are way too big, though the former is growing on me), but it's overall a pretty good revision of the JJ-verse design.

I have more mixed feelings on the new version of the E-nil. The extra windows on the saucer disrupt the symmetry, the new pylons put too much of a gap between the nacelles and the saucer, and I don't like that the back of the saucer hangs over the neck. On the other hand, the way the ship is presented in the movie, the changes all make the ship look a more delicate and graceful. I think I'll have to reserve judgement until I see more of the design, once there are some models of it and such.

The time-lapse construction sequence was amazing. And there was a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance of a Miranda in the background, our first non-Enterprise, non-Vengeance, non-Kelvin-kitbash Starfleet ship in the new movies.

Really?? Where is it?

Ok I think I might have found it... it's around 30 seconds on the video on the finishing loop around the E. Top left? you can see a saucer with a split front-end just behind and to the left of the Enterprise's nacelle. Doesn't look quite like a Miranda though... it's only there for a couple of seconds and either vanishes off-frame or disappears.

Also around 0:25 you can see some of the old hexagonal lighting pods from TMP illuminating the ship!

Another freeze frame bonus: looks like there's a set of windows over the impulse engine. Ten...aft? When this comes out on DVD there are going to be so many gatchas from this sequence...

Nonsense.

They could have just re-used the same Enterprise NCC-1701 model and amended the ships' registry.

The changes to the saucer, the neck, the grey metallic finish and the window placement shows they spent a good amount of thought into evolving the 2009 ship.

I'm sorry but I'm afraid I'm going to have to remove the video clip since it appears to be taken from a bootleg copy of the film rather than any promotional materials. It's one thing for some still images to be posted, but a full video clip could potentially cause some problems. Sorry again.

I'll leave the thread open so you guys can continue talking about the design.

I fail to see how my comment is "nonsense." The new ship doesn't look all that different from the old ship, other than a few tweaks here and there. It's not like they spent months and months coming up with a whole new design for the nuEnt-A.

Agreed.

Actually I like it so far.
Much more sturdy looking.

The changes were pretty significant (the dark grey metallic sheen on the 'A' ship vs the dull grey/white hull plating from the '2009' ship is quite obvious).

There seems to be a desire at the studio to introduce a newer/better ship and without drastically changing the design and confusing many viewers of nuTrek.

I like it, but it's still lacking the effortless grace of the refit. I was expecting something more along those lines. At least the nacelles are a decent distance apart this time.

The refit we all know and love wasn't conceived until 2270 - so we got another 6 in-universe years until the nuEnterprise can evolve into something like that. :)

The Prime timeline Refit was result of many technological advances since the TOS. Since in the Kelvin timeline the 'TOS' technology is already far in advance in most areas all bets are off as to what or when we may see next.

I am glad the J.J. 1701-A in Beyond was not just another ST2009/Into Darkness/Beyond J.J. 1701 with an "A" added like we saw in TVH with that 1701-A.

There could be another one, but the Miranda I spotted is at the very beginning of the sequence, in the upper-right corner of the screen, barely peaking out behind the Enterprise and construction ships. It's harder to see in the bootleg video, for obvious reasons, but it's easiest to catch when the time-lapse effect begins; the ship picks up speed and you can see the rollbar come into view.

I don't like where the pylons connect to the nacelles. Other then that, I think it is fine.

I see what you mean. If you watch here a ship flies by. You can just barely make out a roll bar

There is also some sort of connection here, maybe a neck or pylon. What ever it is connected to is obscured by the hull of the A

I like the fact that we have 3 JJprises in 3 films already. There is the ST09/STID Enterprise, the Beyond Enterprise-refit and now the totally new Enterprise-A. The more model/toy ships for my collection the better!

By the way has anyone made any orthos of the Enterprise-A? I've been searching for days and all I can find is this:

(And if it's one of yours guys, great work!:techman: Have done more views?)
