Discussion of 9 minute trailer

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

Loved it!

There's one thing that bugs the aspie in me. Hint - "Pen Palls". Why was Enterprise even there? Spock seems all prime-directive crazy, but saving the pre-warp civilization from a natural disaster IS a PD violation.

Is this Orci's unsubtle way of telling the writers of "ENT: Dear Doctor" to go fuck themselves?

More likely they're telling the writers of Modern Trek that their interpretation of the Prime Directive is fucking stupid.

Oh let's hope so..

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

Well, even in the Prime timeline of the 23rd Century the Prime Directive was violated more times than the legal blood-alcohol limit on prom night. Kirk repeatedly came up with myriad, flimsy excuses to save a primitive, pre-warp society from itself or some powerful computer that was unjustly ruling over it all in the name of the greater good or doing what he felt was morally right.

I'd be surprised if Starfleet Command itself signed off on such a mission in violation of its own most sacred rule, but this is a timeline that's changed since 2233 and the Starfleet of *this* 2259 might do a few things a little differently than the one we saw in the Prime TOS era.

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

But Spock is right there quoting the Prime Directive while planting the charges that will save the people...

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

better ad for the film than that messy teaser trailer. this actually looks good and fun

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

The landing party/EVA jumpsuits worn by Kirk, McCoy, Sulu and Uhura are reminiscent of some of the Starfleet leotards and jumpsuits seen on Voyager with the department color piping stitched into them ("Learning Curve" is an episode that prominently featured them). They also look a little like the 22nd century Earth Starfleet uniforms on Enterprise with the gold, red and blue piping.

Nice touch.

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

I love it! What an exciting time to be a Star Trek fan!

One quibble, though: Somehow it rubs me the wrong way how, again, they seem to squach in as many popular catchphrases as possible. Instead of just coming up with new stuff, they let Spock recite his "the need of the many" mantra for the millionth time. This also bugged me in the first movie.

That said, the first nine minutes look brilliant. I can't wait to see this. Cumberbatch being a new villian didn't seem like a good idea at first, but now I think it's actually much cooler than just retreating old stuff.

I always liked those VOY jumpsuits. And yay for the alien fish :)

I think it's actually a Vulcan mantra. And you know how anal the Vulcans are, no one ever told them that repeating themselves makes them sound tedious.

"The Vulcan Science Directorate has determined.."

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

Or: "I am a Vulcan. I am incapable of lying."

Cue 22nd century clips from Enterprise. ;)

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

I refuse to watch an unauthorized copy of the 9 minute trailer.

OK, that was pretty good.

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

I've had a copy of this sitting on my hdd for hours. Still not sure if I want to see it in this quality or not :borg:

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

As much as I am apalled that soneone would leak the footage, I want to watch the rest of the movie right now.

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

Uhura kissing Spock through the helmet... it's like he's trying to resist her human affection! Lols.
Love the white leather-skinned alien species. Red forests are rad. Are they a by-product of Red Matter? Did Kirk F this planet up himself?
Is Scott standing in the new engineering? If so, an improvement.
Nice to see the gang in the middle of another adventure. Genuinely entertaining but I'm still not fond of the 'terrorist' angle.

Bizarre how clear it is for a 3-D projection. I can't imagine Paramount is going to be pleased with michantheninja.

I can't tell you how big a smile it put on my face when Kirk and McCoy literally swam to the Enterprise airlock. :D

"They're trying to kill us, Jim!" "I HATE THIS!"

Yay for McCoy. :techman:

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

The haters can go blow - this movie has BIG HIT written all over it, which can only assure the continuance of Star Trek. Where does May fall on the calendar again, is it next month?
