Discovery's lead character will be referred to in the series as “Number One”

So Discovery takes place ten years prior to TOS, and its lead character is a female, Lieutenant Commander called "Number One". Maybe this is Number One after she is promoted off of the Enterprise following "The Cage"?

That is much more interesting to me than another character being called "Number One".

I think we all are taking the "Number One" reveal a bit too seriously. I imagine that she will just be the first officer, casually referred to as "Number One" from time to time.

Nothing to do but spitball until more relevant information comes out. I agree that it will probably just be a nickname for someone. But I like my idea better.

Can we have a captain that refers to everyone on the ship by their ranking in the chain of command?

"Welcome aboard, Number One-Hundred-and-Fifty-Three!"

Brian Fuller's full quote regarding Number One was:

"Our character, when we introduce the protagonist, she is called ‘Number One’ in honor of Majel Barrett’s character in the original pilot. As we were first talking about the series and talking to CBS, we said, initially, we’ll only call the character ‘Number One’ because in the Sixties, in the first pilot, Gene Roddenberry was very progressive and had a female first officer. So since [our lead character] is a female first officer, I just loved that we were calling her ‘Number One’."

Her real name will be made known during the first season of DSC.

I'd hate to be the one referred to as #2...

Cobra Commander's favourite band. :)

I hope the PTB behind Discovery aren't going the retread route where, instead of going where no ST has gone before, all they do is repackage old ideas and constantly reference previous, better, ST.

Hannibal was a prequel by Fuller.

That should be a sack of clues about this boys commitment to blending now and then.
