For me, it's TSFS. It's a perfect companion piece to TWOK. It was very bold in having the crew go rogue and steal the Enterprise against Starfleet's orders (a plot device that has now become somewhat of a Trek trope). It hammered home the friendships and loyalty that this crew have developed over the years in a way that felt genuine and sincere. And, because of its direct connection with TWOK, it elevated Trek into something operatic and made the universe feel the most "real" it had ever felt. TSFS is also a great example of how you do a "high stakes" Trek story without needing Earth or the entire known universe in peril.

The soundtrack is hauntingly gorgeous, and the film is visually striking for the time. I'd argue this is also Shatner's best work. He really blows it out of the park from an acting perspective.

I think fans often overlook just how much world-building was done in this film that set up Trek for the next 20 years. Spacedock, "modern" Klingons, the BoP, the Excelsior, etc.

Well, I already explained why I'm voting for The Voyage Home.

Had TVH been eliminated last round I would have been voting for The Search for Spock. Mostly for the reasons stated by others.

There are a lot of things about Star Trek that are taken for granted even now that began with TSFS. Chief of these being that "Star Trek is an ensemble story". Before this and certainly for the first two films Star Trek was about Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. After this it became expected that there would at least be Standout Moments for the extended cast.

But here is my latest vote for TVH.

You know, The Undiscovered Country has some warts and some things I'm not always happy about, but it was a really nice way to send the original cast off. In ways, I actually like The Final Frontier better, but that film has more of a black mark on it due to it's poor reception and box office performance.

TUC was an event. It was beautifully filmed, had an interesting score, and hit all the right notes with the original cast. The plotting was tense (although sloppy) and it filled a timeline gap that TNG had created by having the Federation and Klingon Empire allies, giving a great backstory to that element.

Young me loved it in the theaters, though these days I can really nitpick it to death (I couldn't believe I was annoyed at the Picard season 2 characters for being messy with the timeline, after I rewatched this and saw how much messier this crew was!)

My vote is for The Voyage Home.

It's the first Star Trek movie I ever saw, I believe. I can't exactly remember, but it strikes me as appropriate to say that. Before watching The Voyage Home I wasn't really as into Trek as I am now, it was a background thing I occasionally enjoyed, but I credit TVH with making me the Star Trek fan I am today, with a special love for McCoy.

Definitely the best TNG movie. It not only had good action, some good humor, and good horror (the assimilation of people shown here really illustrates just how gruesome and horrific it is to have that fate), but it connected us to a pivotal moment in STAR TREK history.

Absolutely love this movie!

I've got to go with First Contact here. Another Trek film that felt like an "event movie." I remember going to see this multiple times in the theater and being thrilled each time. This movie is notable for me in that I think it has one of the best scenes in the entire franchise, and it's not an action scene or a VFX scene, it's simply two great actors (Stewart, Woodard) going head-to-head in the observation room. Great Goldsmith score, awesome practical model effects with the new Enterprise-E, and a top-tier performance from Sir Patrick.

STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME is my second favourite Trek film, so it's a no-brainer that I'll save it now. It's fun, funny, and full of whales!!

I find myself not really bothered about any of the remaining films. Almost all of them have bits I like, but too many bits I don't. However, despite its many flaws, there's only one that I'd want to watch right now, and it's STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER!
