Discovery Renewed for Season 5?

ME is working on a story that suggests that its only for appearances' sake and that Kurtzman is fired for the ninth time, but is continuing to hold on the title and has now locked himself into a throne room which is under a volcano with a lava river flowing through it. Secretly though, CBS is working on a film that will star all of the surviving TNG, DS9, and Voyager casts and will kill Michael Burnham in the first moments of the movie and revert the series to the real Prime timeline.

Also kurtzman has a real thalaron generator and is going to use it to wipe out trekkies everywhere

Kind of unnecessary, isn't it? After all, the sheer awfulness of the Trek Kurtzman produces will make the True Fans turn petrified and instantly crumble apart, just like the Romulan Senate in Nemesis. ;)
If I recall correctly, the reason he was fired for the ninth time (or was it the tenth? I lost count) was because CBS execs found out he had inserted subliminal memetic triggers into random frames of each episode that would instantly petrify True Fans. They would also condition a certain subset of viewers to experience dissociative periods during which they heap praise on the series through every available communication channel, and they wouldn't remember any of it after they woke up.

Possibly a way to get 2 seasons worth of scripts out of the writers before a writer's strike this summer. /tinfoil

SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE!

Cool, cool, cool.

Edit: Could it be possible they've mixed this up with the recent reports of Section 31 having a second series order to film 2 back to back... or, the fact that it's been reported that both that and Picard filming their next two back to back might mean new standard procedure, as I think someone else said.

Hell the automatic renewal for season 4 hasn't been confirmed yet.

Plus all indications are they're starting filming on the "Star TrekSection 31" series starting in May.

I would love an announcement for Season Four and Five at the same time, just for the eruption of anger from the hater crowd, especially as so many have been claiming DSC will be cancelled after Season Three.
Midnight's Edge would likely claim a simultaneous renewal for two seasons is proof the show is planned to end after the fifth. That is if they don't just ratchet up their usual rhetoric about the show has already been secretly cancelled and Kurtzman secretly fired, they're just continuing production and allowing Kurtzman to come to the office as a smokescreen or whatever the hell they spew out.
