Discovery at STLV. The massive info dump

I'm sure they can always make something really bad, but I don't think DSC is going to be bad. I actually put VOY at the bottom of the previous shows. I think they wasted a lot of potential with that show.
The biggest problems with both Voyager and Enterprise was the kneejerk changes from one season to another as they desperately tried to change the formula to increase ratings. They didn't have the courage of their convictions or believe in the premise.

So Voyager more or less forgets about the Maquis after the first season and turns into TNG-lite until they reinvent it again with Seven of Nine.

Enterprise pootles around for a couple of seasons with no direction, save for the half-baked temporal cold war arc, before reinventing itself as 24 in space in season three, and fanwank in season four. Then it got cancelled.

Discovery seems to know what it wants to do and is telling a broader story which has been established from the outset. I think it'll be more cohesive at least, which should be a good thing.

It's gonna be great

Yeoman Colt! She brings out the stallion in me, if you know what I mean!

People are twisting themselves in to pretzels to prove that ST: Disc isn't Star Trek. SAD :( I don't have much confidence in this series but nothing can be as bad as Enterprise.

Doesn't take much twisting actually. A simple look at the trailers will do.

You know what? Given what I said, I can understand the possible need to lock me up and away from females!

THE WOMEN!

Um, it's been 43 years. The LAST time we actually saw STAR TREK on TV was 1974 with The Animated Series.
mean we're talking STAR TREK on TV - not the retconned Berman/Braga era TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT crap. GET IT RIGHT! ;)
No, no, you're getting closer but not quite there! It's actually been 49 years. We all know that real Trek end with the second season of TOS in 1968. So: 2017 - 1968 = 49 years!

Agreed. Voyager had a great concept: to get a ship completely out of reach of Starfleet and let them be completely on their own. But the execution, characters and stories were bland.

When VOY started, and near the end of "Caretaker" Janeway says something about the Prime Directive not applying since they are already involved and will blow up the array. When she said that, I thought we'd be going back to the feel of TOS, where a lot would be up to the crew and their resources only.

In fact, that was one of the selling points Berman and all were saying before the premiere.

But as the series went on, we had bland characters (some we should have cared about, like Kes, but her leaving was something I was hoping for, not sad about!) that in a lot of cases did some monumentally stupid things (I'm looking at you, Mr. Kim!) and eventually tiptoeing around the Prime Directive again like Starfleet had an auditor aboard!
