It looks like a cheaply made, stupid, potentially offensive version of TNG, yes. If that floats these people's boats more power to them but I'm over the '90s Trek aesthetic.

I'm so excited about The Orville (after seeing the thumbnail picture of the video) that I still haven't watched the trailer.

I predict alot of Orville vs. Discovery warring going on this fall.

Especially if Orville does what I think it will and that's surprise people with how thoughtful it ends up being instead of just comedic. Look at Ted. People keep underestimating McFarlane, but they forget that he's a Trek fan, a sci-fi fan, a space fan, and a big softie on the inside.

Knowing McFarlane, there'll be a shit load of Captain's log toilet jokes.

This. Exactly this. I'll put this down for posterity now. I think The Orville will last longer than Discovery.

ARGH!!!! FUCK YOU TEEEEEEEDDDDDD!!!!! * shakes fist at sky *

Dude, that piece of crap just rips off a Supernatural episode that did it way better. I seriously hope Galaxy Quest: The Series does NOT turn out like that. Ugh.

Sorry, but MacFarlane's plagiarism has a way of making me nerd rage more than Original Timeline Khan does.

On a more serious note, I am aware that MacFarlane's a ST fan (I know he had a cameo in ENT), which makes me vaguely hopeful.

I love the concept behind Orville, but the trailer didn't make me laugh, and isn't it supposed to be (at least partly) a comedy?

The Discovery trailer didn't sell me, but I thought it worked better than Orville's.

I really hope they're both good, but we shall see.

I've been on other websites. Again, i'm not seeing "negative" i'm seeing, at most, "mixed."

Haven't really sampled other sites, but the reactions here at least seem to be mostly positive. People not liking the trailer are clearly in the minority, I would say. Can't say I've seen a lot of "I am really looking forward to The Orville, I'm not all that excited about ST: Discovery" to be honest, so the premise of this thread seems rather unfounded to me.

The “Orville” trailer was okay. I dig the look and the effects, but some of the jokes fell flat.

Don't forget the fact that most people, apart from some internet posters, liked both movies. EVEN MORE FAIL. :guffaw:

I'm on a few Trek related groups on Facebook and the negative reactions seem to outweigh the positive reactions but I could be wrong.

Also in common with TNG, the Orville trailer isn't funny.

I wonder if The Orville was originally pitched to CBS as a Trek spin off, with a comedy take.

I don't think it is that. If they would have done a show after voyager you wouldn't hear the complaining about aesthetics. The show need to have at least a passing resemblance in look to the cage. Colors and general symmetry. It doesn't have to be exact. No one wants that. Textures and functions can be added etc.
