Disclosure Day | Steven Spielberg (June 12, 2026)

I've read the AV Club review and don't feel that I know any more about the plot than was revealed in the trailers - it mentions some details about the characters we didn't know, but not enough to piece together the whole story. IMO it's a perfectly reasonable review.

(Now, if you actually do want to spoil yourself? The entire plot summary is on Wikipedia.)

No one read the AV Club review as it gives away the entire plot of the movie.
I stopped reading them years ago. The quality of their reviews have dropped hard, sadly.

Which is why I've stopped watching the promos and the latest trailers.

I just got back from seeing it and while I did like the movie, I didn't love it. It's not Jurassic Park in epic-ness, but I would say it's better than War of the Worlds. John Williams is in his mid-90s and he still has it. That guy is a legend.

I saw first showing right after work yesterday. Lots to like here. It probably depends on what type of movie you were expecting to see. Do not want to get into specifics here.

There are some direct parallels to the Spielberg produced miniseries Taken in 2002. Huge fan of that and recorded on VHS. A few years ago bought it on DVD at Goodwill. Been sitting unwatched. Wanting the time to rewatch whole thing. Well now I will make the time to do so. Something seemed familiar when watching movie but reading review afterwards that made connection reminded me why.

I have been stewing on this for a day or so but really I was expecting a lot more from this film. I don't think it needed all of those action set pieces and the ending could have been a bit longer and more focused, like there should have been more to the disclosure and thought put into what was said rather then just a cryptic ending with the ET like what we got. I mean that's it then fade to black, one word. I didn't like it.

I think the Aliens are really a MacGuffin. It’s more about humans perceptions of aliens and trying to control how others view them. You could probably substitute aliens with gods or angels or other things unknowable. The overall message is about lack of communication in the real world. Which is what that last word is about.

I would love to know now what people think after having seen it and if it could have been improved what suggestions would you guys make?

I am reminded of Genesis1:26, 27 which says humanity is one of God's greatest creations. So does that mean we're better than anything else that was made like the planets and stars, the other stars and worlds outside of our solar system and it leaves open for interpretation that other life may well have been created.

Saw the film this afternoon. I really enjoyed it (of course, I have little quibbles here and there). Not my favorite Spielberg film, but still worth watching a few times. Hits a little close to home with an unaccountable, "by any means necessary" non-law enforcement organization that the government lets do what it wants in terms of "security."

Blunt, O'Connor, Firth and Domingo all were excellent.

I do want to know what happens next. And I totally expected a different, more disappointing ending and - was glad that was not what we got.

I'm an atheist so just personally I find this idea that humankind is the center of the universe a bit silly

I enjoyed the movie as well. It wasn't what I expected it to be - a sci-fi action thriller with mind-blowing visuals. It was more similar in themes to films like Contact, starring Jodie Foster. Emily Blunt's performance was top-notch. I felt the last 20 minutes of "disclosing the facts" could've been given a larger scope instead of having a bunch of people staring at their phones. An anticlimactic ending, that's what I felt.

Precisely why I didn't like the ending. It should have been something a little bigger than people staring at screens
