Disclosure Day | Steven Spielberg (June 12, 2026)

Just think in another universe CE3K was rewritten before release to make that the big disclosure movie and all the antics at Devil's Tower were made public in that movie instead of being hushed up.

Now that was his best alien movie and I wish he had done it that way

Now that was the better movie and now that I had said that I wish Spielberg had done that one that way.
That's an insightful idea. :techman:

I mean well I love that movie to bits but Spielberg seemed to run with the narrative and keep the status quo when the big reveal happens and the big alien ship starts to land. BTW why did the aliens come in upside down then flip their ship over to "land"
I assumed the mother ship rotating was for dramatic visual purposes.

The family want me to go see this with them and I'm tempted, but I saw both CE3K and E.T. at the cinema and hated them.

Any opinions on my chances of enjoying it ?

I stand by my reasoning. The confluence of events + the film's subject matter & marketing = something gre-he-heasey. Wouldn't be the first time mass media was used by interested parties to manipulate people's beliefs; I've suspected that Spielburg is not above letting his work be used in this way since that weirdly triumphant "hero soldiers taking down the dying tripod with RPGs" scene from his War of the Worlds adaptation that seemed out of place with the rest of the film.
Yeah--and the way he actually predicted the future in Minority Report! So oily!

The entire "disclosure" narrative that's swirling around is greasy because we've got grifters just looking to make a buck by selling stories, and various elements of the US government using it to distract people from it's own obvious corruption and behaviour, and now we've got Spielburg rolling up implying there's some element of "truth" to his movie. It's greasy.

No lie, I've always been interested in the subject matter, but various groups and powers using the mystery to sell people either products for mere profit or narratives to control them rubs the wrong way as I enter my 40s.

lol I'd probably be less irritated if the movie looked more interesting than the trailers make it seem
I think you're taking what he said about some of it being true way to seriously. I took as more of a "what if some of this is true" kind of statement, rather than saying he actually really believes it's true.
And even if he didn't mean it that way, then it's still just the kind of marketing bullshit you see all the time with these kind of movies, and still doubt he actually thinks it's true or really expects the audience to.

My biggest what if when it comes to Spielberg and aliens, is what would it have been like if we'd gotten Night Skies instead of E.T. and Poltergeist.

I always viewed those ideas as missed opportunities.

He should have done Night Skies just like he wanted to and not chickened out when he made Poltergeist and changing things.

Lol you're probably right that I'm taking it too seriously. Personally, I've never experienced anything weird, but I have a brother in law who is an airline pilot who had his career derailed for half a decade because he and his flight crew saw what they're calling 'UAPs" now, and reported it through official channels.

The bullshit, wether it's hollywood movies with irritating marketing or that aussie dweeb from that fox news knock off channel I sometimes pick up on the bunny ears when the weather's clear, or some US government intelligence wanker claiming all kinds of shit in front of Congress, has a real human impact on people's lives and lately it's all just gotten too insulting to me.

I would have loved to see what Spielburg would have done with Night Skies back in the 80's instead of going down the schmaltzy path he took with ET; these days I don't think he's got the juice. I don't think he's really had it since maybe Jurrasic Park.

Non sequitur, I guess? Fluba awub woo to you too.
