Disclosure Day | Steven Spielberg (June 12, 2026)

I'm just taking the piss, and being a little self-deprecating too. I've never heard the term greasy used in conversation, although TPBs was filmed near where I grew up and I've seen a lot of the episodes.

EDIT: and I do feel like I'm living in Minority Report more and more.

First review is extremely positive. Stand out passage without spoilers -- "[Spielberg] is on fire, making a movie that feels like the kinds he used to churn out regularly early in his career."

And forgive me if this has been brought up in this thread before and I have forgotten, but the movie will have a score by John Williams! Once I would have taken that as a given, but given his age it comes as a very pleasant surprise.:)

The family want me to go see this with them and I'm tempted, but I saw both CE3K and E.T. at the cinema and hated them.

Any opinions on my chances of enjoying it ?
Extremely low ....

...as are my odds of being correct on what you might like. I didn't enjoy ET either, but other alien type properties I do, like Taken, or another TV series that is escaping my mind (aliens and humans living together). I enjoy episodes in TV shows with the reveal, like Stargate's 2010, and FARSCAPE were John has the crew on Earth.

I have no clue if I'm going to like this movie.

I thought he'd retired. Could possibly be he did it as a favor to him before he retired.

He is retired but Spielberg lured him out of it just for this film.

EW has a new Disclosure Day "cover story", with interviews with Spielberg, and the cast.

It does reveal a bit more of the plot than what we've gotten in the trailers, like the fact that the people trying to hide the truth are a tech company, and not the government, because Spielberg doesn't the think governments are good enough at keeping secrets to hide something like what the movie is dealing with.

That's an interesting angle aliens vs big tech.. I'm a little bit more interested now

Well this guy thinks he knows more then Spielberg. Haters coming out of the woodwork

That guy is pretty harsh but Spielberg is hardly a genius, a lot of his movies have been duds.

Yeah, and it doesn't help that the trailers have been very vague. I've heard reports that say it's his best since his version of War of the Worlds, but I didn't like that movie, so that doesn't give me much confidence.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that film either but I remain optimistically hopeful.

I finally sat down and watched that movie a few weeks ago. It wasn't bad, but I still couldn't buy Tom Cruise as the "Blue Collar Joe" guy he was supposed to be.

That's certainly part of it. There is just so much that doesn't work for me with that movie. The most annoying thing about it is the way Dakota Fanning's character is yelling all throughout the movie. I get it, she's scared. But... I feel Spielberg's directing on that was kind of off the mark. On top of that, I feel that the movie went more for a spectacle approach and the original core of the story is hardly recognizable other than a few setpieces.
