Differences between the series and/or the movies:

Because under the law in those states, a woman’s right to have an abortion doesn’t preclude the idea that a fetus is considered a person. It merely grants the woman the right to terminate her pregnancy.

That is my point. The woman has the right to terminate HER pregnancy, but no one else does.

^Additionally, one death happened on the Enterprise, while the other happened on DS9, which was operating within Bajoran space.

If this is about "Up the Long Ladder", then elimination of the clones took place on the colony, hadn't matured into actual beings yet and were made of illegally harvested material.

I agree, ST (2009) is the best of the three, unfortunately!

I'm an Into Darkness man. I love the scope of the story, the things it had to say about us and the action. Just a fun, fun ride. I actually rank Beyond as the weakest of the three.

The legality of cloning is a different issue from whether a clone has rights. A person could be the product of a rape, but you'll still be charged with murder if you kill that person, which is a good thing because it proves that we're not totally insane!!!
But the clones were unfinished. They were not persons yet.

I actually think that destroying those clones was damn cold thing to do. I could not have pulled that trigger. But I can see how it could be legal, and certainly a completely different thing than killing a complete, walking, thinking, talking clone.

I don't know. There are a few things that don't make sense in Into Darkness, but I definitely agree that Beyond is by far the weakest of the three. It's like Kirk wasn't the only one tired of the ship, so were the writers.

Right. So completely opposite ranking to mine. Beyond is the only tolerable one of that trio, and ID is an utter disaster of nearly phantommenacian proportions.

I must insist that it's not the issue when it comes to abortion. A fetus may be unfinished but a pregnant woman is the only one to have a say in the matter of terminating it. Another person couldn't do it without suffering legal consequences for it.

Welcome to Star Trek!

I don't think that was it. I imagine deep space would be a grind, it actually gave us a realistic look into how people would react from time to time when on such a monotonous assignment. Something Star Trek never really tackled before.

Differences of opinion are what make discussions interesting.

But it kinda is. Because once the little snotling is actually born, it is not okay even for the mother to abort them!

A reference to 'Star Wars the Phantom Menace', one of the worst films ever to grace the silver screen.

I get it now.

But in this case, there are NO pregnant women involved so consequently it should NEVER be OK to terminate the fetus or the "unfinished clone".

Starfleet (the writers) obviously feel differently.

Have you actually seen "Up the Long Ladder"?
