Diet & Fitness Support Thread

Most ellipticals have adjustable difficulty, so even if you're not going fast, you could still be working really hard.

Oh, I know. Today I actually managed to go one level up halfway through my work out on the elliptical.

Hopefully that will help compensating for all those horrible cookies I have been forced to eat today. :borg:

I missed a week! I was sick for the first time this year with a cold. I started back up again on Thurs last week and have only taken off one day since. I re-joined my gym with a "special" they were running, which was buy 3 months and get 1 free.

How's the holiday season treating everyone?

I use the extra food as an excuse to put on more muscle. I've actually noticed some decent improvements over the last few weeks.

Our YMCA is having a promotion for December ... if you work out 12 days during the month, they give you a "12 Days of Fitness" T-shirt. I'm easily motivated by free swag, so I've been hitting the gym regularly this month. :) Hopefully it'll help combat the usual holiday weight gain.

Too many cookies! Seriously, instead of breakfast while you're lounging in front of the tv watching some crap show about Hugh Hefner?

So I decided to take a run outside. This only confirmed how much I hate running. :borg: I'm still glad I did it though. And for my gymnastics and yoga exercises I was banned inside my mother's tiny dressing room where I couldn't even strech out my arms properly. Not that I'm complaining or anything. ;)

How is everyone holding up?

I've dropped from 270lbs to 262. After a few setbacks in Dec, my bench press on Saturday was up to 385lbs for 6 reps in my middle set.

My back is getting a lot stronger, but the rest of me has been at a standstill for months now.

I'm thinking of joining a new gym. My current one doesn't have flexible enough hours for me, so there are too many times when I can't even get there to lift. I need a 24-hour gym. I made so much progress at my old gym because it was always open and I could workout whenever I felt like it.

I gained almost 10 pounds since October. :( Damn Thanksgiving & Christmas!

But at least I'm getting in better shape. Now I just need to curb my diet (and get my daughter to stop baking all these delicious unhealthy treats).

Off to the gym.

I find that ellipticals just don't do anything for me. I last they don't feel like they do. Hard to work up a sweat on those things.

I'm going to be joining a gym, probably tomorrow. Anyone have an advice on what kind of things I should look for?

Enough machines to allow multiple people to use them so you don't have to wait long. Avoid gyms with fees. Clean locker room and bathrooms.

"gyms with fees"? Do you mean "extra" fees in addition to dues, or do you mean able to use the gym completely free, no charge?

^I don't think gyms like that exist...unless you're still in high school.
That's the advantage to teaching in a high school where the football coach teamed up with the sports boosters to renovate our weight room.

First time I've been in in quite awhile. I hurt. I promise not to slack this time!
