Diet & Fitness Support Thread

I ran two miles yesterday and felt fine. :) Tomorrow I go for my contrasting dye x-ray and cortisone shot, so we'll see how I feel after that.

I look like crap compared to a year ago. I did not realize this until today. Gotta get my ass in gear.

I had a bad workout last night and today...well, its a rare case where I was too tired to go. Ugh I regret it now though.

RAMA

My muscle tone is all gone.

I've been feeling so depressed lately that I went out for a 30 minute walk. It did wonders for my mood. :D :techman:

Going walking again tomorrow.

Good for you CD!

I am cautiously optimistic about my hip ... it's feeling MUCH better after having the cortisone shot. I'm going to start jogging again in a few days (starting out slow & short) and see how it goes.

Gotta get rid of those Thanksgiving pounds!

The last 2 back workouts I had had were complete shit, but I finally had an amazing one this morning. Thank goodness.

I'm going to the gym after work today.
My hamstrings have been sore since Sunday
After I cleaned up the house.
:D I woke up with a really sore back after a particularly busy day shipping wine (27 boxes ... and those cases weigh about 40 pounds each!). But I went out for a short run (after getting the OK to start exercising again from my orthopod) and felt much better.

Then I had a nice long soak in a hot tub. AHHHHH!!!!

I did a regular workout at the gym on Thursday and hiked on Friday, and then was VERY sore all weekend. But no particular pain in the hip! Yay!

I ran 2 miles today and so far, so good. :) It feels great to be active again.

I haven't done strength training for months. I'm going to put of dumb bells in the kitchen so I could at least work out a little while waiting for my popcorn.

Back in the gym after a month break because of work demands. Goal is to get in ski shape and pray for snow over the holidays...

Does anyone here know how an elliptical machine compares to a treadmill? When I'm doing 12 km in 65 minutes is that just as good as running that distance in 65 minutes on the treadmill?
Or should I think of it more like riding a bike while standing up?

Elliptical machines are a lot kinder to my knees, and you can get your whole body into the workout if you want.

I hate running.

Yeah, that's why I like them, too. I actually never tried the treadmill and don't intend to do so either.

After doing nothing at all for a while I finally got my act together last month and the difference it makes is amazing.

And as I dicovered this week you can still get a runner's high on the elliptical, so it's all good. ;)

In order to kinda sorta assess my fitness level I'd just like to know if doing the elliptical can be compared to the treadmill, distance wise.

Don't get me wrong, the elliptical can burn some calories, and is a great way to avoid the kinetic stress of running.

^ Plus you can also use your arms instead of just having them tucked to your sides. I guess it's easier on my back as well, which - due to some pain issues - I have to take into consideration. I do clearly see the advantages. :)

I'm not constantly worrying if I might not be fast enough, I was just curious to know how the comparison would be.
