Self-explanatory really, but it struck me today that I couldn't recall ever seeing a female Xindi. Were there some that I've forgotten?
This. That's why they destroyed their original home world, fighting over what few women there were.
The lead Xindi-Aquatic was female -- Kiaphet Amman'sor. In "The Council," when Councillor Mallora is briefing Archer about the Council members, he talks about her.
I think we can safely assume that if a Reptilian or an Arboreal looked male but were never explicitly stated as such, they were male. Just look at the Cardassians: they were reptiles too, but they still had facial characteristics that clearly identified them as either male or female, not to mention that the female Cardassians had breasts. And whenever there's a one-gender or a three-gender race in Trek, they/the third sex looked androgynous.Well, the way I see it:
There's no reason not to assume half the Reptilians we saw- or more- were females. They're reptiles; there won't be anything "feminine" about them from a mammalian viewpoint. We know Dolim was male- other than that, who knows? As for the Arboreals, aren't they marsupial? So again, we have no real reason not to assume half the background Arboreals weren't female, with teats in pouches instead of breasts (we know Jannar and Gralik were male). As stated already, the insectoids are asexual and Aquatic representative Kiaphet Amman'sor was identified as female.
But we certainly never saw a female Xindi-primate.
Why? Is being male some sort of default setting? I'm sorry, but I think this is a pretty narrow way of looking at the world.I think we can safely assume that if a Reptilian or an Arboreal looked male but were never explicitly stated as such, they were male.
I'm not saying that being male is some kind of "default setting". The Reptilians and Arboreals we've seen were simply supposed to be male and there's never any indication that those species only had one gender. If a species is supposed to sexless/have more than two genders in Trek, it shows. I don't have a problem with all the humanoid Xindi we've seen being male. Of course, they could say that the Reptilians/Arboreals/both were sexless in future Trek. Why? Is being male some sort of default setting? ^ They were scaly, cold-blooded, and liked hot temperatures. Sounds kind of reptilian.

I guess I missed any on screen reference to them being cold blooded. Vulcans and some other races like heat but that does not mean they are reptiles. They just came from a warmer planet. They also had breasts, mated with other humanoids, and had babies instead of laying eggs.
Off the top of my head-- from TOS, "The Deadly Years":Hmmm. I must have missed any on screen reference to Vulcans actually liking heat.
Spock: Doctor, the ship's temperature is increasingly uncomfortable for me. I've adjusted the environment in my quarters to 125 degrees, which is at least tolerable.
McCoy: Well, I see I won't be making any house calls on you.
Spock: I wondered if perhaps there was something which could lower my sensitivity to cold.
