Did Chakotay and Janeway ever have secret romantic feelings for one another

However I wonder what the real chakotay would say if he knew about her program.

Interesting.
I think that IF the real Chakotay had knowledge of the program, a part of him would surely questioned the truth of Seven's feelings to him (was he just another experience? The other part would be pleased to have been chosen among all the men on board by the Borg "Ice Queen", including the Doctor who has spent so much time to help Seven, while he, Chakotay, remained far from all that. In short,
his ego was certainly flattered.

Wait, now that I think about it didn't the doctor know about her holo-Chuckles? He probably should have been like you know that's against the rules

I'm pretty sure that the Doctor found out about the holo-Chakotay (and later, her dating with the real one), not only because he was forced to look for and study the reasons which had provoked Seven's passing out in the holodeck so, this wouldn't happen again in a future more or less close (and Janeway had found out too, via the Doctor or when she did her own research, after to notice the changing in Seven's behavior: her numerous delays, the quality of her work became questionable and her lies) AND of course, because of his insatiable curiosity, especially when he found out that his Seven was slipping away from him -> remember his attempts to make Seven talk about her experiences and later when she informed him being very busy and it was not professional...

The Janeway x Chakotay was most likely the brainchild of Jeri Taylor. Like a lot of things in VOY season 1-3, were Jeri Taylor's ideas. Jeri Taylor, who at the time was a middle aged woman, got to write stories about a middle aged woman that she helped create. "Resolutions" being the most Janeway x Chakotay episode in the series.

Janeway's list of prowesses Taylor never failed to mention in any episode she wrote for her. For "Resolutions" when she's stranded on a planet, alone with a handsome Native man, in a small house, Janeway wears dresses for her scientific reconnaissance. Because, the episode was framed with Janeway trying to figure out a way to cure the virus and not about being a romantic rendezvous with the only man on the planet.

Other Taylor stories like this, would be the abandoned Mrs. Davenport holoprogram (meant to be like Dixon Hill on TNG) and the episode "Sub Rosa". Because Taylor herself is a fan of Gothic novels and those cheap romance paperbacks you can buy at the store.

People like SFDebris felt that Taylor wrote Janeway like a Mary Sue, because she came off as a wish fulfillment character of the writers. They took their own attributes and add them to her character. The same way Tom Paris is an expert at everything, through sheer lack of imagination on the creative side. Which could also explain Chakotay and Harry being so static and boring during their 7 year run.

By season 3/4 with the threat of cancellation hanging over head, many of the earlier ideas that VOY started out with were dropped. Including the Chakotay x Janeway romance. Not that it was coming from the best place to begin with anyway.

Yes, in "Human Error" Seven had the emotional/corticol meltdown when she was "breaking up" with Holo-Chakotay and called the Doctor before she passed out. The Doc went to the holodeck and was a bit confused and thought Holo-Chak was the real thing for a minute. After Seven recovered, Doc spoke with Seven about it, but she asked him to keep her "exploration" confidential.

Seven never had sex on the show. Her early offers to Harry Kim not withstanding.
Well, except in the other timeline when she was supposed to be married to Chakotay.

I honestly felt that even in season 7 she simply wasn't ready for romantic relationships.

She just hadn't matured enough at that point. Maybe 20 years on Voyager sure but I felt they were jumping the gun with her on that.

I think they had feelings for one another. But nothing ever happened. It was like she told Jaffen at the end of Work Force - it wouldn't be appropriate for her to "fraternize" with a member of her crew.

The Jaffen thing would never have happened if not for Janeway being brainwashed and out of the water to begin with.

DS9 is good, and then after season 2, it's really good. :)

There's no reason you shouldn't get around to it eventually. :)

I think it is likely (getting the DS9 set). I know for a fact I won't be able to convince the husband to watch seven seasons of Voyager with me again once we've finished this round. Four times is his upper limit.

I was a kid when it aired so those were the days of hopeless romantics. I don't recall when I became a shipper, because I do recall making stink faces while watching Resolutions. To a 13 year old, 40 year olds are old. I am old enough now to be glad Mulgrew put her foot down. And I do not think 40 is old anymore as I climb that particular crag, haha.

4 to 8 months passed in the last 3 minutes of Resolutions.

The camera watched a tomato plant grow for 4 to 8 months.

That's a clear suggestion that our heroes enjoyed each others bodies.

I remember durring my first watching hating the idea of the Janeway Chakotay pairing, it was like watching your parents for me LOL.

Even now I'm not crazy about the pairing.

Was there a hologrid on the shuttle?

They had a replicator, so these two marooned fools could have built enough holoemitters to turn either the house or the shuttle into a fairly good holobrothel, where all their hearts content could have been sorted, even if Chakotay just made himself his own Kathryn Janeway.

Shuttles generally don't have a holodeck. I think even if they could replicate the emitters, would they have enough power to run it?

Cracking and maintaining warp requires the power of a hundred nuclear bombs going off continuously for hours.

If they don't plan on taking the shuttle back into space ever again, they have a thousand life times supply of power in that little rust bucket.

Well, in fact, that was Jaffen who clearly said it, even if Janeway had let him hear a few seconds before.

JAFFEN: I can see why you'd rather live here.
JANEWAY: I'd offer you a position. I could always use another skilled Engineer. But as the captain, it wouldn't really be appropriate for me to
JAFFEN: Fraternise with a member of your crew. Well, at least my memories weren't tampered with. According to the medical reports, I really did come to Quarra looking for a better life. And now that I've been promoted, I guess I've succeeded.
JANEWAY: Promotion?
JAFFEN: They had to replace our shift supervisor. Something about acquiring workers illegally.
JANEWAY: Congratulations. You deserve it.
JAFFEN: I thought you might like these back, to remind you of our time together.
JANEWAY: I won't need souvenirs to remember you.
(They embrace.)

I'd say that:

- the big difference between what happened between Capt Janeway became later only Kathryn after the ion storm/ Chakotay on New Earth and Kathryn 2.0/Jaffen on the modern planet, was where the first did not consume the romantic relationship feelings which was appearing slowly but surely (without the discovery of the serum, the two would have ended up a life à la Adam & Eva, without a doubt but it would surely have taken time, mainly from Janeway), the second quickly fell for each other to the point of deciding to live together as a couple, what included having sexual intercourse, of course but even brainwashed* when she met and lived with Jaffen, the love story she shared with her alien lover was true and not one straight out of her mind, easily erasable after a surgery and besides, proof of this is, once back on Voyager and after to have been treated by the Doctor, the ‎ memory of Jaffen had not disappeared, any more than her feelings for him! And it would have been easy to fall in love with him again.

- the common point Jaffen would have shared with Chakotay if Jaffen has accepted a position on Voyager, he would have automatically become a subordinate with whom the Captain could not carry out (Chakotay) or continue (Jaffen) an intimate relationship. At least, we cannot reproach to Janeway to put her happiness to the forefront, no matter the circonstances.

* IMHO, I think that our Kathryn Janeway isn't so different from the Kathryn Janeway we saw/discovered on this planet, a sparkling woman full of life, impulsive and funny ..., once she accepts to be stripped of her Captain mask but I guess that after 7 years where she was forced to wear it round the clock or almost, the mask had to stick to the skin to the point of not being able to detach herself from it and the duties the mask inspires.
-> Mark and somehow, Chakotay (when they were on New Earth) had to know the free spirit Kathryn and even if they were already in love with her, they ‎could only fall harder thereafter... ,
-> Maybe I see too much but in making the decision to stay on the modern planet, Jaffen wouldn't decided to "sacrifice" himself for love in order ‎not to become a burden for the woman he fell hard, who, wouldn't have been able to focus 100% on her command and her mission to bring her crew safe at home?!
-> In short, it was easier to keep working side by side with Chakotay after New Earth, because ‎nothing serious had happened between them while with Jaffen, what had happened on the modern planet would stuck in their mind/memory which would eventually disturb and prevent them from working together.

I feel like if Jaffen had stayed on Voyager they would have eventually gotten together. If they had such strong feelings for one another you can only resist it for so long. Plus I think it would be interesting to see him butt heads with Chakotay over her ;)
