Design the Next Enterprise

That's really low. Shake it off, man. He's one (idiotic) voice amidst a sea of support. :techman:
Also...are you going to sculpt your winning design? It would be cool to see a physical interpretation by the original artist.

You know I was thinking about doing it but I want to wait and see what Capnlogan comes up with. While yes I created the concept the final design will be from cryptic and from what I am hearing it is staying pretty true to the original concept. As for shaking it off, while I was really ticked that my integrity would be questioned, as I look back, I can understand the feelings of those who felt slighted by the fan vote fiasco, and I am passed it. And to be honest I really hope Fuzzy's design makes iit into the game. I don't wish to take anything away from Fuzzy but some of my original sketches had a similar configuration but I abandoned it fearing others would think it was too far from the "Enterprise" look, judging by the fan reaction to Fuzzy's ship tho, i was wrong. I have to say I love his design, it really worked. I will always say it tho Vektors was always and will always be my favorite.

Yeah man, don't let it get to you. I've still got people saying I wasn't eligible due to submitting via proxy from outside the country. I really do live in Alaska, and it really is a state in the union.

I've also got people saying I got what was coming to me, and that they hope I've been taken down a notch. I understand why you feel compelled to read it all, because I do too, but let me tell you, after six months of praise and abuse, it becomes an unhealthy obsession.

For instance I'm supposed to be helping pack lunches for a hike in the mountains east of town, probably the perfect thing to improve my mental state, but here I am offering support to the one person I'm more jealous of than anyone else on the planet.

I'll close with this: You'll be taking a certain measure of grief on this design for the rest of your life. You accepted this risk when you entered the contest. Anyone here would gladly trade places with you. So once again, count your blessings. Not only did you win, but you already have a job in the industry. You are the envy of literally thousands of Star Trek fans. Go live the dream, and flip those naysayers the bird.

Sounds like they were confusing you with DAC, who actually did submit his by proxy.

Your design was great and lots of people loved it and please don't be jealous of me, I work 12-16 hour days on a constant basis with nary a thank you at the end of the day, I wish it was as glorious and cool as people seem to think it is. I am one who hopes Cryptic does the right thing and adds it to the game, because the you and your fans(yes you have fans if not fanatics :)) deserve the recognition.

Yeah, but its not like I was top of the votes or anything. :p I knew I had no chance, but I was determined to make one, as slim as it may have been.

I just find it absolutely ridiculous to include a fan vote and then completely disregard the outcome of that. Yes, the rules said they could, but if they were always going to ignore it then why include the fan vote option in the first freakin' place?!

I've made my opinion of Fuzzy's design clear, I think its a good idea that could use some tweaking in its execution, but my feelings of that aside it still came first in the fan vote. It's the fact that Cryptic ignored it completely which is annoying me now more than anything.

Seriously, even more jealous than of Brad Pitt for getting to bone Angelina on a regular basis?

She looks much sturdier than her predecessors. The two necks would distribute the mechanical strain over a bigger area. That should give her an advantage when flying in an atmosphere. She's also more compact and therefore propably better balanced.
I like her =)

Hi all, while browsing through Deviantart, I happened upon this beauty.

Its a cryin' shame that he didn't enter this into the Contest. He probably would've been in the top 25.

Thought you all would want to feast your eyes on this.

He won 3rd place. This is a revised version from a different angle.

[edit] I might be wrong. I could have sworn I'd read a wip thread for that one, but now I can't find it...

[edit] Found it, but still not sure it's the same ship. Reading... I guess it not the same one. >shrug< I do like this one better than the 3rd place winner. More organic. Better angle.

I must say, this isn't quite what I originally had in mind. Her nacelle struts look much more boldly V-shaped than I originally envisioned. I quite like it!:luvlove:

If you did a basic 3-D model that's easy to work with, would you mind terribly experimenting with stretching out the warp nacelles a bit, as in a more traditional design? I'd love to see a few angles how she would look that way!

OK. I am confused, both links go to the exact same image, with the original design winning 3rd place.

Edit: And although I really don't like the overall design, the front half of his secondary hull is sexy!

It's not an atmospheric issue it's an issue of any environment space, atmosphere or hydrosphere. The forces superstructures take is dictated by movement and inertia as well as the additional forces of the medium the superstructure must move through.

When ships move in space the greater amount of stress is applied by acceleration because ships aren't whole pieces but rather amalgamations of materials and parts with different masses and densities. The acceleration will be transferred indirectly to those sub structures through their adjoined or jointed sections. These sections are the weakest link in the superstructure as acceleration is applied.

Torsional stress is the other force that will afflict ships in vacuum or atmosphere. It is the force that bears down on the same parts as acceleration as the ship attempts to change direction. And because Federations ships place a huge amount of mass at the end of it's pylons and dorsal neck sections this is the biggest concern of all. Between the Stardive and the Warp nacelles there must be HUGE amounts of stress being afflicted upon the ends of the pylons 's and neck section while the nacelles or impulse engines fly them selves in one direction while the ship wants to go in another direction. (assuming warp engines are doing any pulling what's so-ever.)

Enter those magic fields.
But structural engineering and building doesn't rely solely upon tech such as this because they aren't fail proof with out powered assistance. Most likely these ships are constructed with every effort to make them space worthy with or without power. Likely structural soundness can only take us so far when dealing with speeds in considerable fractions of light and beyond...

All that just to agree...wider is better.
But a solid neck would bee even better.

Hmmm.
First glance from a distance is that it's extreme
Close up it is quite impelling isn't it.
I don't care for the Sovereign like throw back but it's intriguing enough to completely ignore.

You know guys once against I have say You should really pitch these designs to Bridge Commander Central.com and bridgecommanderfiles.com There is some real talent and people would love to play these in game.

Hmm, I'll do it if you want, but that mesh really was just 2 spheres intersecting one another with some cutouts on the second sphere and 2 more semi spheres as nacelles :p

Basically, it was really basic, and even that took some time to get OK because I was having trouble thinning the pylons without a million mesh errors turning up.

Also, thinking about Ihlecreations' E-F...I think simply putting the saucer connectors for the necks in the middle where a neck would traditionally go would shut most of the naysayers up. I think that's the only weird issue is the fact that its such a wide area that's left open. I'll have to knock up some renders see what that looks like...

Funny how he doesn't include his actual entry on his Deviantart account. If not for you and the fact I read through the entire thread, I wouldn't have know that those two designs are one in the same.
