Design the Next Enterprise

As per Ihlecreations' winning design and this whole unique saucer sep mode Cryptic have talked about, I thought i'd give it another stab at modelling it and figure out this saucer sep thing.

Here's what I've ended up with. (Milions of pics incoming!)

Then I thought about maybe doing the split neck/saucer sep thing a different way.

No, no, no. . . Leave the dual pylons attached to the saucer, and use them as impulse vents and weapons arrays. Then make the attachment points along the middle seam of the lower fuselage. I'm trying to imagine a rational docking scenario with either the ring or the ribbon, and I'm not seeing it.

Heh, moving away from the hypotheticals...I've also started work on bringing TitanDesigner's F submission to 3 dimensions...

Hi guys, have to say I wish I could say I was as happy as I was when I got the first emails, but the backlash from my win has basically took the fun out of it. I know I was CLEARLY not the fan favorite, that has been made perfectly clear here and on other sites. That being said, i did a quicky rendering nothing special just a little clean up of the concept sketch I created. This is the last art of the Enterprise F I am going to do seeing as it does nothing but cause such harsh feelings. I am curious to see how close I got to what Cryptic is going to do with it. Now I have a pretty thick skin, I have been doing art and design as a profession for 15 years and I must be doing something right because my work can be seen at Disney World, Universal Studios, on television, in magazines and on DVD, but I hate to say it but this got to me. I have to say I have lost contracts and had people actually slam doors in my face and never once did I cry about it. I am going to walk away from this proud but saddened by the reactions. I would like to put this whole scenario behind me. To those who liked the idea I came up with I thank you for the support. All I ask is please don't ask me to do anymore with this design, as far as I am concerned the Enterprise F was just one more thing I have done, and I am moving on.

Now I can see where you were going with it. I gotta admit I was not blown away by the initial sketch, but knowing you're an actual person who's part of this community, I kept the ambiguous feelings to myself. What you just posted though, has allowed me to better visualize what the final product might be, and I freaking love it. I completely understand why you won, because it's an exciting, unique take, and left the most room for the game designers themselves to have fun with it. Great job, and congratulations. :bolian:

IHL - Don't let the comments at STO get to you. Just look at the crap art the in the game that the players like! Your design is unique and not just a kitbash. It has great potential to look really nice in a completed model and your sketches do remind me of Probert's work - definitely a complement!

Hey I got totally bashed and liked at the same time with the Titan I totally know what you are going through. Don't go away hurt. Sure I was upset that I did not make it into the top 25, but that is not your fault. You have a design that is very unique and you should be very proud of what you came up with. It is already starting to grow on me with every sketch and Dac's Renderings. I in away can't wait to see what Cryptic comes up with. From the start I have said that Cryptic did a bad handling of the contest. Ultimately it is CBS's property. They have the say in what is what.
You deserve alot of credit, don't just walk away from some upset fans... If so I would of thrown my hands up and never designed another ship and would be done with it. I do hope you will keep us updated on what is going on.

Hey, name one Enterprise in the last 40 years that hasn't had criticism!
As soon as you stick the name Enterprise on a ship, there's going to be an unrealistic expectation of what an Enterprise is. I think almost any design is going to be divisive, and clearly this one is no different. I think it's a bit silly for anyone to be too overly critical until they at least see the "physical" model of the ship, and not just judge a concept sketch. I already like it, and I hope the final model captures the same feel.

Sean, I promise you I am not going away, I am just not going to do anymore with this design. My life is very full, I am doing alot for Disney at the moment btw if anyone watches HGTV keep an eye out in June, you just might see me working on some stuff. (Shameless plug). I have received some serious accolades from Disney Imagineerings head of sculpting and have had the art director from The Harry Potter films tell me I did an outstanding job on my work for Universals Harry Potter theme park so I know I am a good artist. A few upset fans are not the issue, it was the poor sportsmanship from a few that got to me. That is what took the wind out of my sails. If it was just the upset fans I wouldn't care I didn't enter the contest to please them I entered because I am a Trek fan myself. I have seen the polls that have been created and you know what, no skin off my butt. Let them cry. I will just be reading all the raging on my new Alienware computer.:)

Adam,

1. No matter who thinks or says what, you won the contest, and no one can take that away from you, and regardless of if people like or dislike your design, no one has the right to personal attacks on your abilities. If anyone did that to you, shame on them, because the fact of the matter is that it's just a damn video game that hardly anybody plays anyway.

2. The problem is that Cryptic really only wanted a rough idea, whether they were clear about that or not. People are upset because they spent a lot of time on their designs, but I'm pretty sure they're not upset at you; they're upset at Cryptic. If anyone is upset at you, that's their problem.

3. I have to admit that although I was one of the first people to congratulate you (because you deserved to be congratulated for winning), I honestly didn't care for your design. Not because it was a rough sketch, but because I just didn't care for the logic of the design. Now however, I have to say that your new render is 100% more enticing to me.

4. Forget the polls. Internet polls are meaningless, and not based in any kind of reality.

5. I'm sorry you feel you've gotten so much flak for your design that you're washing your hands of it. You certainly don't deserve that.

Those who can, do, and those who can't, criticize. :p
Being able to take criticism, and distinguishing constructive criticism from the people like this who just want to bash, is what makes you better at what you do. Clearly the people that count like your work, including the judges of this competition. The rest don't matter, so I'm glad you aren't letting them get to you. :techman:

I really like this. This image leads me to believe that the two necks are actually one continuous piece that circles the secondary hull. If it were to separate I picture the secondary hull just slipping out of the "ring". Was this your intention?
