Design the Next Enterprise

You have to be a subscriber to post on the forums, like most MMO forums (if they have to put up with forum trolls, they at least want to be paid to do so ..:P)

I think you won a lifetime sub, so when you input that game key or whatever into your STO account, you would be able to post.

They probably won't ever see your Private message over there, none of the Cryptic staff are allowed to answer those anymore as they want all official communication to go through their Ticket system (or via email if they have solicited a response directly that way)

That's very magnanimous of you to accept their version without any further input. Hopefully their version will be something you'll like.

Still, it wouldn't have killed them to talk to you as a courtesy. And you never know, it could be a case of the right hand not knowing what the left is doing - he might be open to talking to you some more about it and just didn't know you contacted them

hey it could have been worse i could have won with this thing i designed years back, a sovereign ripoff, that when i go back and look at I ask myself what was i thinking.

Tiberion, there will be only one version, the work I have done since winning is not useless but is not going to dictate the final design, Cryptic has creative control over it now and I am ok with that, I read the rules and knew what I was getting into by entering, now if I can be ok with what Capnlogan does with the finished design, i would hope you would be as well.

BTW I have registered at the STO forums but I cannot post for some reason, but I did send Logan a message letting him know I would love to give any feed back if necessary.

You have to be a paid subscriber. I can't post there either. But since you are the grand prize winner you get a free subscription, so let them know and they may send you a key code.

I'm tellin ya folks! You're gonna be blown away. :) I want to get some pics out to the community sooooooon!

Seeing this 3d rendering here from the original artist is inspiring, but I gotta say the design I'm going with looks more like the sketch and less like this rendering. That might make you say 'oh god that's awful' but I assure you, the model is far more elegant and streamlined in 3d than you would imagine from the 2d sketch.

ON another note, does anyone else have any variations posted up anywhere? I'd love to see some other 3d takes on the 2d design :)

(emphasis mine)

Not the greatest of news, IMO. Going to be disappointing to have 2 versions of the ship.

Maybe I just being naive about the scruples of the Community (talking about the Trek community as a whole, and not the STO one) but isn't it likely that people are more likely to embrace the winner's version of the ship, than one from STO - at least if they differ enough to be noticeable?

Or is this something only I care about?

Heh, I just posted my rough shape 3D renders over there - maybe that'll get some feedback :p

I do hope they decide to go the ringship route. Even if they don't, you could still sell the notion that the front loop is more than just a pylon to hold the saucer, no matter how it connects. Say that someone modified Voyagers (quantum slipstream something) use of the nav deflector with a soliton drive. The front loop then acts as a field coil, either attached to the saucer or secondary hull, allowing the saucer to jump far ahead of the rest of the ship.

On the plus side, you can get to a destination quickly. On the down side--once there, you are stuck at sublight, unless you go with the ringship design, and there only lower warp numbers are available without the secondary hull as catapault.

Still like the original black and white drawing. It has that Sternbach look to it which I think might have given you the win.

^It's already been stated that the bridge will stay with the secondary hull after separation. Pretty much excluding the ring idea.

HOLY CRAP I WON!!! Got the e-mail at 7 pm today! , Is this for real?!!

I've been away for a while but sincerely, congratulations Ihlereations, good job with the pre-visualization sketches, that was clearly the right way to go to catch their attention, it was just enough to catch their interest for a progressive Trek style for the game. I'll learn from that.

Congratulations, Adam. I have a few beefs with the way the contest was run but I think they came up with a good winner. I'm looking forward to seeing the in-game version. :techman:

I was SO hoping for yours Vektor, The Bridge Commander Modders would still like to see your ship in the game anyway, I'll hope you'll consider making a mess for them.

This picture is as much a congratulations to Ihlecreations as it is comissierations to my fellow losers. :p

Saquist, Titan Designer, I would like to apologize profusely for the haphazardly bashed together renditions of your awesome designs.

FuzzyModem, I would have loved to feature you on here too, but your Enterprise is so damned hard to wrap my head around this time of night. :P Your there in spirit.

Ihlecreations, your Enterprise is a slightly more polished rough version, again, sorry about that, but what with short notice and all. :p

EDIT: Whoops, here's the forum friendly version.

It was...nice seeing my name up there, DAC despite the mistake I'll keep it if you don't mind in honor of Enigma Class.

Hey I got totally bashed and liked at the same time with the Titan I totally know what you are going through. Don't go away hurt. Sure I was upset that I did not make it into the top 25, but that is not your fault. You have a design that is very unique and you should be very proud of what you came up with. It is already starting to grow on me with every sketch and Dac's Renderings. I in away can't wait to see what Cryptic comes up with. From the start I have said that Cryptic did a bad handling of the contest. Ultimately it is CBS's property. They have the say in what is what.
You deserve alot of credit, don't just walk away from some upset fans... If so I would of thrown my hands up and never designed another ship and would be done with it. I do hope you will keep us updated on what is going on.

Sean
Sean, I promise you I am not going away, I am just not going to do anymore with this design. My life is very full, I am doing alot for Disney at the moment btw if anyone watches HGTV keep an eye out in June, you just might see me working on some stuff. (Shameless plug). I have received some serious accolades from Disney Imagineerings head of sculpting and have had the art director from The Harry Potter films tell me I did an outstanding job on my work for Universals Harry Potter theme park so I know I am a good artist. A few upset fans are not the issue, it was the poor sportsmanship from a few that got to me. That is what took the wind out of my sails. If it was just the upset fans I wouldn't care I didn't enter the contest to please them I entered because I am a Trek fan myself. I have seen the polls that have been created and you know what, no skin off my butt. Let them cry. I will just be reading all the raging on my new Alienware computer.:)

It's always critical in Trek, my advice is to accept it. The internet is brutal and people are mean but it's not about them it's your time now make the most of it. And listen to them if you dare, silence them if don't (look away) but either way artist are always moving forward so don't get held down by adoration or agitation just keeping going. And good job, sir.

Not necessarilly....

Who says that the main bridge has to be on top of the saucer? Why not have it be on top of the secondary hull, in between the pylon structures (which may or may not be part of a ring)?

Personally, I think that a bridge "roof window" would be a lot cooler if you were looking up at the saucer above you and in front of you.

FYI - Unfortunately, the Devs have PMs disabled; the only way to communicate wiyth one is through posts, or a community ticket - Reason: That way there is an exact transcript of any/all communications between the 'customers' and any Cryptic employee.

I'm just mentioning this so you know the main reason why 'CapnLogan' might not reply to you.

I've PM'd him -- and the other guy from the art department -- quite a few times and always got a response, so is this something that's happened in the last couple of months?

Still asking someone to post for you in the appropriate threads is probably a good way to go for now.

Yes, within the last few months, after they updated the support site.

Because they made a bit of a deal about it being something neat and interesting. Just moving it to the secondary hull doesn't really come to mind.

Would someone who can post to the sto board please tell the user Agnium that the work I have done for Disney etc, has been as a sculptor not as a designer. I used to design fx make up, graphics and toys. Also I never once said I designed for TV my work as a sculptorcan be seen there. I am a sculptor, who has a degree in industrial design, but I am a sculptor first and fore most. Any other doubts can be quelled by looking at my resume on my website my portfolio and some of the photos on Twitter and Facebook. His little conspiracy can stop right there.

You mentioned about HGTV. I know there is a show coming up called something like "Disney my backyard." Are you doing stuff for that?

Actually exactly like that, I am the lead sculptor for a shop here in Orlando, and we did alot of the pieces for that. I might even have some screen time depending on how they edit it. But it was only sculpting, no design work. The first episode airs June 6th.

Thanks Tiberion, seriously how can he actually think that questioning my integrity was not a personal attack? That's the stuff that pisses me off. You don't like the design fine, you don't like the way cryptic worked the contest fine. But questioning the artists credentials or his intent not cool. I am sorry that I only did a concept design, but hey I know the biz. If you do a finished design right off the bat it leaves little wiggle room. A concept is just that, if the idea is liked either the original designer finishes it or a secondary artist does it.
