DEFIANCE Season 3

Still not seeing the issue here. It's not like the Omec have done something the other races haven't done to get to earth.

They obviously had the technology to do it. There's no mystery here.

I'm still genuinely curious how Kindzi can bounce back and forth between the sleeper ship and Defiance so easily. Are their HALO pods bi-directional? Or are we not supposed to think about that?

Damn Damn Damn. I knew as soon as Silora Voske, Vice Chancellor of the Votanis Collective was shown to be a moderate that her fate was sealed and I figured they'd manipulate Nolan's well earned grief into an excuse to cause "trouble".

I spent the entire episode waiting for "Crazy" Nolan to shoot her, and guess what happened... "Crazy" Nolan shot her.

A completely contrived circumstance brought about by manipulating the plot and making the character act counter to the way he normally would. I've been loving this show, but it's one of my major gripes with storytelling contrivances overall... "Well in any other situation, Nolan wouldn't do this, so lets just macguffin him into doing it to get where we want to be instead of writing towards it."

Other than that, I enjoyed Datak of course, and noticed a surprising lack of Alak or concern for Alak from Stahma once Kinzi reappeared. I'm guessing that was just a break episode for the actor though.

Irisa's Journey kind of reminds me of Gabrielle's towards the last few seasons of Xena, A child who became a killer, who later renounces abject violence, only to realize that the doing nothing when you could do something is just as bad. The strong must protect the weak and that might just be her path moving forward.

Nolan's gone through the wringer this season. Other than his "Arktech" makes me kill good people episode, I've enjoyed his spiral.

Amanda seems like she's torn, she doesn't really HAVE anyone anymore (except Nolan and her assistant lady) the only thing she has is her job as mayor and the town of "Defiance" itself. Everytime she makes a friend, they're either a maniac rapist or killed for no other reason than plot necessity.

Yewell, better not have killed Vet. Boy. I'd like to think she just knocked him out and tied him up somewhere.

Guess we'll see in the next few weeks.

This show reminds me of the way Farscape used to do plots and character change-ups betwixt seasons. Kinda hoping this isn't the last season.

One of my issues is, given that T'evgin seems to be genuinely interested in wanting to create a new path for the Omec, why did he not free Yewll from the implant? It just seems like a dumb choice to make since it provided Kindzi the opportunity to return, and it seems written that way to facilitate the plot.

I VASTLY preferred Amanda as the brothel madame than as the mayor. Just very boring as a pencil pusher. I mean there is fuck all actual pencil pushing in Defiance but she somehow managed to look like that was her favorite pastime when you put her behind that desk.

Yeah she's funny like that..

Season 3 sounds cool I can't wait. I will get the dvds when it is released..

She was cool running the NeedWant

Finally got around to catching this week's episode, and yeah it was a really cool episode. We get some background on the Votanis Collective along with Rahm Tak's position with them, Datak returns and goes back to being awesome, and we seem to be setting up for the arc leading up to the season finale.

I was a bit disappointed early on when they seemed to cop out and say that Nolan's erratic behaviour and hallucinations were the result of alien tech in his brain, I'd have preferred it be the result of genuine psychological problems. But since he's still seeing his soldier doppelganger at the end even after Irisa injected him, could that mean this is a genuine psychological problem? Or most likely it's something different that the drug wouldn't work on, or Yewll gave the wrong drug due to her own problems.

I continue to get a kick out of the Tarr family's house servant and how everyone is constantly dismissing her and being generally rude and belittling her.I'm sure this is eventually leading somewhere and she's going to get her moment in the spotlight, but for now it's an amusing part of the episodes.

So, who becomes Lawkeeper now that Nolan's been arrested, Irisa's travelling with him and Berlin's gone?

Anyone notice they've totally dropped the alien wild life aspect this season?

Good point, now that you mention it. Actually, something I have picked up on is that this season the Castithans seem to be becoming more prominent. Rahm Tak, the Vice Chancellor this week, even back in the premiere it was a Castithan who provided the exposition on the Omec and sought revenge after his son was killed. A few other examples, I'm sure I'm forgetting. Probably because Castithan makeup is the easiest to apply. Granted, we've had a few new Irathients this year, but the only new Indogene spent most of the season covered in bits of human flesh before being converted into a human disguise. We've seen Liberada but they don't seem as plentiful as they did in the previous seasons, and so far we've only seen one of the giant gorilla men all year.

Sonsoth, actually. Although, in regards to the BioMen I noticed even back in season 2 they've been fully clothed as opposed to half-naked as the one we saw in season 1.

We did get the Irathient kid who was killed in the tunnel and his dad, we also saw quite a few with Rahm Tak. We've never really seen a lot of Sensoth so I didn't really notice their being less of them. The only really prominent Sensoth we ever got was the Tar's goon, Raiga. I just looked at the page for the guy who plays Raiga, and it looks like he's played most of the other Sensoth we've seen. Maybe he's been busy and they haven't found anyone to take his place.

The drug wasn't meant to be a cure. It was just a sedative.

Tonight's episode:
Of a Demon in My View
Nolan is unexpectedly freed from Voltanis Collective custody, at which point Amanda, Irisa, and Berlin rush to save him from Kindzi's clutches. Elsewhere, Datak regrets seeking Doc Yewell's help against the Omec; and something startling is witnessed in the minds.
