DEFIANCE Season 3

I enjoyed it. Quiet change of pace after last week's game changer but pretty good anyway. Okay, it was pretty obvious right away the "beast" was Kin'zy. So obvious I'm surprised the other characters didn't figure it out right away.

Yeah, it feels like everyone just totally forgot that the Omec used to eat the other Votans.

Curious how T'evgin got Kindzi back on to the sleeper ship. They came down in HALO pods; are they bi-directional?

That is a huge question!

How indeed?

Okay it just occurred to me that of course they have to be able to get back to the sleeper ship if they are going to repair it. Has no one seen their pods jetting back though?

hmm..

They keep writing Datak the way they did tonight and I increasingly want them to just drop Nolan as a character on the show.

My god Amanda is annoying. And her face looks very strange.

Okay I can add this to my list of Evil Overlords who want my property.

BA'AL: Camulus has kindly offered one half of his domain, Australia, to the free Jaffa nation. -- Stargate

LEX: Oh, General, the world is a big place. Thank goodness, my needs are small...As it turns out, I have this affinity for beachfront property . . .

ZOD: What do you want?

LEX: Australia. -- Superman II

T'EVGIN: There is a large island, it is called Australia. It is remote and uninhabited..

Excellent episode, back on track!

If Amanda and Nolan are eaten I will be fine with it.

Speaking of the Omec, had this in my head the whole episode

I'm seriously starting to doubt that Kindzi and T'evgin will both make it to through to the end of the season. I was surprised to see her come so soon, I expected her to be out of play for a lot longer that this.
Last season Irisa was being effected by Votan tech and Nolan tried to protect her, now Nolan being effected by Votan tech, and is Irisa trying to protect him. I wonder if they did that on purpose.
I was a little surprised that they went that route with him, I just figured he was having normal emotional issues after the trauma of the attack in the tunnel.
I loved Datak's return, I can't wait to see what they do with him.

Datak is the shining jewel in this quite excellent show for me.

I'm wondering if Nolan's tech problem will magically become their way to take down the Omec ship. Because, tech. Kindzi is going to want her purple people eaters free as soon as possible and Nolan being the key to destroying that ship is one way for him to be free and welcome in Defiance again.

I don't know, at this point I'm expecting the big cliffhanger for the finale to the the rest of the Omec showing up just outside of Defiance. At this point there's been so much conflict between Kindzi and T'evgin about whether they'll eat everybody or integrate, and I would be kind of disappointed if we didn't get an answer other than they're all dead so it doesn't matter any more.

I'm curious as to how this show has come along? I'd appreciate some commentary from those who have been following the whole time.

I'll preface this by saying I watched most, if not all of season 1, and then I never stuck with it. The show to me was overall entertaining, though I had little indication what the series arc was, or where the show was heading. When shows start utilizing the sad song to end an episode while there's a montage of the entire cast being introspective/melodramatic, I get pretty turned off. It's like the drama trope that irritates me the most. However I'm tempted to pick up at season 2 and catch up, and just skip the last 3 minutes of every episode.

Super serious montage aside, how has the show progressed? Is there a compelling arc? Without spoilers, has it gone in an interesting direction?

It has improved greatly from the mishmash of tropes it started as in season one. I've kept with it and found that this season it's really hitting a good stride that was starting to emerge in season 2.

Season 2 ramps it up, is often excellent, and does some great world and character building.

Season 3 is epic.

Season 1 is very weak compared to the next two, I've rewatched it and it's enjoyable in retrospect but in the coming seasons it drops the tropes or if it employs them you do not care any more because the story, acting and overall great sci fi romp of it takes over. It's good stuff.

I'm enjoying the schtakle out of it. But my wife bailed after season 2 (and she really didn't want to watch all of 2 with me, but she's nice to me. Her complaint was that the show relies on viewers knowing the setup from the game, and she was too confused about who all the aliens were, how they got here, what the world situation was, etc.

seems we share similar sentiments about season 1, I just didn't stay along for the ride. I'll pick it back up then. I've got a hankering for new sci-fi. I can only watch x-files, dr who, and star trek reruns so many times in a given time period.

I find it kind of ironic that of the three harder sci-fi shows on Syfy, the two set in space and different planets only have humans (so far), and the one set almost entirely on Earth (we did finally get a alien homeworld flashback this season and some scenes on a ship in Earth orbit), is the only one with aliens.

It's my favorite current sci fi by a long run. Having aliens come to dominate a show as far as characters is great, and the make up and races themselves are very well done. I love good world building and the show seems to really enjoy showing us this. There's still lots more they can expand on with some of them too.

As to the game, you don't need to know anything from it to follow the show. I've never played it or read about it other than in this thread.

A lot of people are saying this will be the final season..

I hope we get at least one more.....

BTW how did the Omecs survive for over 5000 years since it took that long I think for the Arks to get to Earth?

Also wasn't their planet where the Volge came from?

The final season !!

It better not be, this is the best sci fi show currently on. How have the ratings been? I know this season has been getting rave reviews.

The Omecs survived because purple is a super colour.
