Declare Yourself!

Since people have been mentioning what sports they've played, I'll jump on the bandwagon.

As a kid, I played mostly baseball, basketball, and soccer, both at school and at the YMCA. In high school, in addition to baseball and cross-country, I discovered the most awesome sport ever: Ultimate Frisbee. So awesome that I decided to quit cross-country and not bother with baseball when I was in college (besides, the baseball team comprised of football players).

I impatiently await the day Ultimate becomes an Olympic sport (I'm dead serious).

I played a lot of sports at the YMCA...a million years ago.

I was also the Ping Pong Champion of Camp Fox in 7th grade.

I was a soccer, basketball and track and fielder. Mind you the only thing i was ever good at out of all those things was discus.

Born and raised in Maine, college in Mass, now live and work in RI, so I'm naturally a born and bred New England fan. Red Sox and Pats. Not much of a hockey fan, so don't much care about the Bruins, and basketball is take it or leave it for me, so while I kinda keep an eye on the Celtics, I don't really watch many games or care a whole lot.

Funny to read 4 pages of this thread, and not a single mention of the NY Giants! A month ago, it seemed like EVERYONE was pretending to be a Giants fan (after the superbowl). Did the bandwagon already disperse?

I honestly don't know of many Giants fans here. I'm sure there are some, just not many. Of course, there were people who were rooting for the Giants because they hate the Patriots. It's possible they came off as Giants fans.

nah, too lazy to try and pull up names, but right after the superbowl, we were flooded with them. Not a single person listing them now, though ;)

I eagerly anticipate engaging you all in this lovely new forum that I will someday take over from 4th Hanson Bro after I pummel him with a crushing body check behind the net. Keep your head up buddy!

pick your favorite advertisement, buddy and make sure you've eaten your wheaties before hand. I've hit guys like you on my way to a good body check.

I, like the deluded Garak am a fan of sports.

My favorite teams are the Denver Broncos (mom still has season tickets - her priority # is less than 10,000), the Colorado Rockies and the Colorado Avalanche.

I also watch college hockey and travel to the Frozen Four every year with my brother in law. It doesn't matter who's playing, it's great hockey. I do have a special place in my heart for the University of Denver, I went to games while in high school and they were great. The drinking age was only 18 at the time and in the old field house, they had a net from the top of the glass to the ceiling. We were never quite sure if it was to keep pucks in the rink or stuff out.

You are suddenly the coolest mod here. I jumped on the Meh bandwagon for that a while back, and I now apologize. I think the only thing that kept me with organized XC for so long is the fact that id we survived the hard workouts monday and wednesday, we would run to the park and play ultimate frisbee tuesday and thursday. I was, admittedly, the cherry-picking god of the game. :)

I LOVE cherry-picking! Everyone hated me in high school because that's all I did. I expanded my repertoire in college to both as a handler and a cherry-picker.

It's good to know there are more Ultimate Frisbee people around (author Dayton Wardalso played). :D

Haha, I was the exact same way. I would play defense on my way to the end zone, but once I would get there, I would set up camp. I received tons of flak for it, but I figured that if no one was smart enough to cover me and force me to move, then they deserved to have me score lots on them. :)

I've been a huge Packers fan all of my life. My grandfather played for the Pack (back in the 1920's), so it was almost mandated that I be a Green Bay fan. I rarely got to see them on tv and didn't go to my first game until I was 19, but I became a rabid fan nonetheless.
Much as I am not a football fan, you folks earn my respect. And I usually love the Packers games I get to watch.

I don't particularly care to watch other sports on TV, but I can go to a baseball game. I'm not big on baseball but I do like going to the baseball park and enjoying the atmosphere. And just because they are close I like to go to Atlanta Braves games.
It's hard to identify, but there is just something about being AT a major league baseball game that is hard to quanitfy. I love baseball, and even though I know that the best seats to watch a game from are in my living room, I still absolutely LOVE being in the stadium for one. A couple of beers in the ballpark...life just doesn't get any better.

I must point out that Spiff promised me this forum if it ever got approved.

So watch your flank.

;)

Fuck that, bitch. This forum is mine. And I'll trip you with my stick to get it (checking isn't my thing, I prefer cheap shots when the refs aren't looking).

All three of you are on the list and marked for death. I shall be the one to pry the controls for this forum from bro's cold, dead hands. It says so right here in his will.

*looks innocent*

Insert mandatory Forest Gump joke here

I'm an avid racing fan and I especially love the NASCAR series. In this sport, even the celebrities are down home nice guys (except Tony Stewart and the Busch brothers ). Also, the roots of this sport and the fact that until recent years you could buy one of these racers from your local dealer if you knew what boxes to mark on the order sheet appeal to me.

Favorite drivers (all time):

David Pearson
Cale Yarborough
Alan Kulwicki
Davey Allison

Favorite Drivers (current):

Matt Kenseth
Mark Martin

Also am a fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs. This time of year, I like to get to at least a couple of spring training games. I also try to make at least two games during the season.

Hey, so we've got this fancy new Sports forum, and a thread full of people talking about how they love sports. Many mentioned baseball in particular.

Well, you're in luck! In this very same forum, there's a signup thread for the TrekBBS Fantasy Baseball league. We have 2 divisions going; one needs one more player, the other needs 4 I believe. Time for a few of you to stand up and grab a team. It's a fun time, there's varying skill levels in the players, so it's ok if you've never tried this before, as long as you at least make an effort to keep up with it (doesn't take THAT much time, just don't quit on the team in June is all we ask).

Come on in, try your luck. At the very least, you'll get to taunt a few of the Mods here for their piss-poor performances! :p

Another rabid NASCAR fan here. I really like all of your 'all time drivers' , Kulwicki and Davey Allison were taken from us way too soon. Great drivers.

I know you hate Tony, but I love him. I was a big Bill Elliot fan back in the day, and I know how much people loved to hate Dale Sr. back then, 'cause I was one of them. So I guess this is my turn to love the driver everyone else hates.

I also love the NFL, primarily the Buffalo Bills. I absolutely hate the rest of the AFC East, especially the Dolphins.

In college football and basketball I root for the Gators. (In case you missed my avatar!) Go Gators!

Ahem...
I also have a sort of second-tier like for the Chicago Cubs in baseball and the New York Giants in football (I get that from older relatives; before the Patriots came along, a lot of people up here followed the Giants).
As I mentioned, I love the Patriots first and foremost, but I consider the Giants my "NFC Team." Obviously I was rooting for the Pats in the Super Bowl, though.

I like hockey.

The Calgary Flames are my team, and have been since they moved here--which just so happens to have been a few years before I was born.

I watch lots of hockey, even if nobody I follow is playing (gee, I guess I owe TSN a thanks...)

The list of teams I follow more than the rest is quite long: Vancouver, Ottawa, Colorado, Dallas, Buffalo, Boston, Montreal, NYR, I even like to keep tabs on things happening in Edmonton and Toronto; and I wish I could see more Washington and Carolina action. Pittsburgh too, I guess-- I'm still waiting to see Crosby walk on water

Actually, I keep tabs on just about everything, with every team. It is a bit sad.

I also follow the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Red Deer Rebels. I had the unfortunate pleasure of living in Lethbridge for a number of years, and attended a lot of games while there. It became somewhat of a habit to follow Red Deer while I was keeping my eye on a certain D-man you may of all heard of: Phaneuf. I use to commute between Nisku (Edmonton) and Calgary a few times a week and would catch a few games.

I decided a few years ago that I hate Vancouver, but I would be lying if I said I didn't like to see them win when they're playing against, well, anybody but us.

Edmonton....

The day we get a playoff round between Calgary and Edmonton, will be... it will just be awesome.
