Declare Yourself!

I am a Boston sports fan first and foremost, so the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, and Celtics are all fair game.

I am primarily a baseball fan however. I love everything about it, the history, the way the game is played, everything. So being a Boston baseball fan, the Red Sox are my boys. I watch as many games as possible, and try to get to Fenway a few times per year. The 2004 post-season was perhaps the best month of my life. It was just incredible. I would say my favorite current players are Mike Lowell, Josh Beckett (known to us Sox fans as Commander Kick Ass of the Fuck Yeah Brigade), and Curt Schilling. All time Sox players that are my faves are Bill Lee, Carlton Fisk, and Bill Mueller.

I have recently moved to Philadelphia however, and while the Sox will always be first and foremost in my heart, I will say the Phillies are a fun bunch to watch.

As a Sox fan, I despise the Yankees with a burning passion, especially A-Rod, but I do respect many of them, including (former) manager Joe Torre, Mike Mussina, Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, and Derek Jeter. I also really dislike the White Sox. They seem like a punch of punks, and I think Ozzie Guillen is kind of a dick.

I also like football, even though its under baseball. The Pats are great, and despite the Superbowl, are still the best team in the NFL. I love Bill Belichick, and despite all this spygate crapola, I respect him 100%. I think spygate is probably this biggest overkill of any investigation I have ever seen. Also, Tom Brady is God with a football uniform.

Basketball and Hockey are way under Baseball and Football in terms of my favorite sports. However, I still support them.

My 2 favorite sports to watch are basketball and soccer.

On basketball front my favorite team is the Philadelphia 76'ers. I've rooted for them since youth. While the team has generally been crap however I've liked most of the players and Pat Croce is awesome. :D

AC Milan is my favorite professional soccer club. My penchant for them was inherited from my parents and grand-parents. To be honest I've not always followed them with regularity but I am doing so right now. In international soccer competition I always cheered for the U.S. national team and occasionally I would root for England or Italy because of familiarity with their players.

My favorite football team is the Philadelphia Eagles although ironically being here in Atlanta it's much harder to see an Eagles game than an AC Milan match.

My favorite baseball team is the evil empire otherwise known as the Yankees. I started cheering for them in the Buck Showalter days. Bernie Williams is my all-time favorite Yankees player.

Lets' see, I like NFL Football and NCAA basketball and lacrosse primarily. I tend toward regional and/or divisional loyalties and rivalries.

I'm from Baltimore, so I love the Ravens, hatehatehate the Steelers and LOATHE the Colts. Yes, I remember when they left, and I remember being forced to root for the Redskins for 12 years. It was a dark, dark time. I do have a residual hatred of the Cowboys left over from that period as well.

In college basketball, I'm an ACC person. I went to Virginia, so I root for the Cavs first (wahoo-a), though that's usually a moot point by the time I start paying attention to the season. Maryland is my second choice, Michigan is my third for some reason and the NC Tarheels are my fourth. Mostly I'm a rabid fan of whoever happens to be playing Duke.

In college lacrosse, it's Johns Hopkins followed by Navy and Maryland. I don't care for the interlopers from other regions. Lacrosse belongs to us.

I will watch some college football, though only out of boredom. My tems would be UVA, Maryland, Navy and Michigan.

I don't like baseball at all, but Camden Yards is too nice to not got to a couple of games a year. I just drink heavily and pretend I'm in a park or something. I got to go to Cal's last game, which was exciting, and maybe the only time I've actually seen more O's fans in the stadium than Red Sox or Yankees fans.

Finally, I will watch the Winter Olympics. I especially like speed skating, both alpine and freestyle snowboarding and skiing and the skeleton. I enjoy equestrian events (ring jumping and steeple chase, not dressage) as well, as I used to compete in those as a child.

ETA: For some reason I always find myself inclined to root for Chelsea in soccer, if forced to watch. :vulcan:

Atlanta Braves
Chicago Bears

I've seen the Blue Jays play the Twins at the Skydome, and I've been to several Braves games. I've also been to see the Bills play the Falcons at the Georgia Dome where Chris Chandler threw for a personal best of 400 something yards. And I was at the last Braves home game this season when the Brewers manager got thrown out. IT was awesome.

"I have instant dislike of him!"

:scream:

IIRC you're an Angels fan? We'll I should thank you. The Angels have been the Red Sox annual whipping boy in the post season for the last few years.;)

In all seriousness though, the Angels always seem to have great regular seasons, and then in the post season they always seem to just die, especially against the Sox.

I did root for em during the 2005 ALCS. The strikeout play with A.J. Peirzynski (spelling?) was absolute bull. He should have been out.

I'm your wife so there for you have to listen to me whether it's true or not. Therefore you are a kings fan. Mahaha

My hatred of The Red Sox goes back to '86 Series and Hendu's homerun.

We always beat the Yankees, but can't get past the BoSox.

Also, as a Rams fan I HATE the Patriots.

And as a Lakers fan, I DESPISE the Celtics.

So yeah....you're on my list...

:scream:

And thats why I love the Angels, they can't beat the Sox, but they give the Yankees fits. I find that surprising however, because the Red Sox and Yankees are usually built, at least over the last few years, in the same way, having OBP lineups to knock out starters, and get to bullpens. For some reason though, it never works for the Yankees against the Angels.

In all seriousness, though, I like the Angels, and hold no animosity towards them. Mike Scioscia is a real out of the box manager, and its refreshing to see a team rely on speed and the small ball to win, rather then getting on base and hitting homeruns.

in the minorty here...

Football AKA Soccer. I support two of my local teams who are Nottingham Forest and Mansfield Town. I would say my 1st club is Nottingham Forest, the same club my dad supported as a child and still does to this day but sadly in my life time the times are hard on my club.

Forest dropped out of the Premier League back in 1998/1999 season and have failed to regian there place despite coming close several years ago by reaching the League Championship playoffs. We are now in League One (3rd tier of English football) but are one of the best in that league so sooner rather than later we should be back fighting for a place in the Premier League.

However country comes before club and I support ENGLAND with a massive load of passion and emotion but ever since I started watching ENG back in Euro 1996, I've been left devestated come the end of every major championship be that a EURO or a WORLD Cup.

My favourite players of my generation are...

Michael Owen & Alan Shearer whom for ENGLAND are some of the best we have ever had. Am also a big fan of Forest & ENG legend "Stuart Pearce" who was captain of Forest during his career and now is the coach of the ENG U21's.

Favourite football moment...

ENGLAND beating GERMANY 5-1 in there own backyard in 2001.

I think Mike Scioscia has been terrific for the team. I love the way he coaches.

Another Brit here.

I wouldn't say I was fanatical about any particular sport, but I have followed Formula One for a long time now, since the 1991 British Grand Prix (a few races before Michael Schumacher made his debut). I've supported the myriad of British drivers throughout the years, king among them Nigel Mansell, but also Damon Hill, Johnny Herbert, David Coulthard, Martin Brundle, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, while held some equal admiration for their great rivals in particular the aforementioned Schumacher (but never his brother Ralf), Mika Hakkinen, Rubens Barrichello, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikonnen, and even Mark Webber. In terms of teams I have had great appreciation for Williams, even though their glory days are well behind them, and also appreciate the other teams out there too. I still believe Heikki Kovalainen will be the one to watch this year, if the McLarens are competitive on race day. I used to get into American CART/Indy racing, and occasionally still watch to see Dario Franchitti do his usual best.

I also like my football, and I'll always be around for the World Cup. Of course, if England are playing I'll follow their progress through, although I have also enjoyed watching the likes of Portugal, Argentina, Spain, Germany, and many of the African countries too. But my heart still belongs to Scotland. :bolian: Club-wise, while I haven't been to any of their matches, I follow the misfortunes (and, occasionally, otherwise) of Aberdeen FC, which I have supported since I were a lad. The English game is something I don't really focus on, although I do enjoy the neverending soap opera that is The Premiership (it was never the same since they wrote José Mourinho out of the show), I do admire the mobile hairdryer that is ex-Aberdeen boss Alex Ferguson, and I do have a soft spot for Sheffield United too.

My interest in cricket at a young age came mainly from my father and a few of my closest friends, and we'd play cricket a lot way back then. I was rubbish at it of course, but pretty handy with a bat. These days, my father supports Sri Lanka while I stuck with England for my amusement. I remember the halcyon days of my youth when we would play a few overs of cricket in the morning, then come inside and see England get trounced by the West Indies over and over again... While I also like the Sri Lankans, I also have a soft spot for the New Zealand side, what with my father living there for a few years. I've not been able to get into county cricket much, although I would like to see a Twenty20 game just to see what the fuss is all about. My ultimate aim: to take enough time off to go and see a whole Ashes Test match or an India-Pakistan ODI.

Other sports I'll watch if there's something interesting include snooker, especially if Ronnie O'Sullivan, John Higgins or Peter Ebdon are playing; tennis, where I don't really follow anyone in particular although the Murray brothers are usually worth watching; various Olympic and Winter Olympic events; rugby of either code, especially during the Union World Cup where it's any of the home nations that get my blessing; and darts, which I developed a fascination for while revising for my Maths school exams. I've also developed a morbid fascination with golf, which one might think was the dullest sport to watch on TV, but watching one of the major Opens is strangely compelling...

Because I am super-cool, this goes into two big, bolded categories.

Sports I play:
My Dad evidently wanted me to be involved in as many sports as possible, for I remember being in recreational leagues for softball, basketball, soccer, and even lacrosse. Girls don't play football or he'd probably have signed me up for that as well. Of those, lacrosse lasted a week, basketball I didn't like because it made my hands feel dirty AND I couldn't shoot very well (coaches liked my height and I was decent on D). Softball was just boring. I took to soccer. I played on a "travel" team until about 16 when team politics reared its ugly head and caused fairly drastic restructuring of the roster. After a year of varsity soccer I switched to cross country - a mistake, as it turns out.

In high school my Dad basically made me run track. I ended up liking it a lot and doing quite well. I ran the 300m intermediate hurdles, and actually have a school record. I have no idea how that happened, since a 48.2 or whatever time I had really isn't that spectacular. I also triple jumped, ran the 400 (best time - 61.0) and 4x400 and placed 6th in PA in 2003 in the 4x800.

I tried tennis once, but that was a disaster.

Sports I watch:
Football. I like the Eagles and Penn State. I much prefer college football to the pros, although this only happened after PSU had a great 2005 season and basically brainwashed me. I've traveled to Michigan twice for away games, know all the players names & numbers, am fairly versed in PSU trivia, hate Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, and probably would hate Pitt if we ever played them. But we don't.

My interest in the Eagles waxes and wanes in conjunction with how well their season goes, so I can't claim true fandom. I sometimes root for the Dallas Cowboys because of the way Alidar Jarok reacts. TO is the man!

I was a big Flyers fan back in the day when I got CSN, but now I just get the stupid Pittsburgh sports channel so it's hard to keep track of them. I do also root somewhat for the Carolina Hurricanes, but that's mostly because Rod Brind'Amour is the man and I wish he was still in Philly.

That's basically it, and this post is already far too long.
