Deck Plan Generations...and Bowling Alleys

Thanks!

Now, holodeck.

I'm figuring the ship's gym is roughly where the big rec room is on the refit, while the holodeck is on the opposite side of the impulse engines, with both big rooms being situated right under those lit rectangles on the upper surface of the saucer.

I was under the impression that the gym was a two story high room since it re-used the S1 engine room. (Ditto with the ship's theater.)

Actually, I was under the impression that the ship's theatre was the gym. Even for a vessel as large as the Enterprise, having an area solely dedicated to theatre is an absurd luxury. Is am-dram really so crucial to the crew? Make much more sense to have a general use space (like most high schools, really) that can be configured as a stage when needed.

There's also the fact the two weightlifting handles (that ?Sam was using in CharlieX, before he "went away.") are clearly present behind the theatre audience.

Mytran, Good eyes! and it makes alot of sense too. :)

A multi-purpose gym/recreation center? 70% of the time it's a gym. The other times it could be converted to an auditorium with little effort. In an unseen part of the ceiling area there probably is a basketball hoop folded up into it :) In a pinch it probably could even be the bowling alley ;)

Recreation center seems to cover all the bases. What we saw was probably just a small part of the whole.

Ah yes, the solution that fixes the apparent discrepancy in that episode, where they run past the same room twice on different decks (3 and 5, if I remember right)

I dunno, three decks in height for recreation space seems a bit much. What are they doing in there, duelling with 20-foot poles? ;)

Those are not 20-foot poles!

The tables and chairs do suggest more than just workout space though.

Eyeballing some of those spaces does appear to have a ceiling of at least 18 or more feet so even though excessive to take up 3 decks it could be a solution to that episode's 3 deck spanning rec room. (The TMP rec deck seems to take up 3 decks at one end too). Perhaps some other rec decks overlook that space via a balcony area?

There could almost be a balcony behind those 2 duellers, its about the right height.
But why would they need a room the same height as the shuttlebay for recreation? For when 60' Spock comes aboard maybe?

Personally, I prefer my own theory (big surprise) to explain LTBYLB - Bele is chasing Lokai but doesn't realise his quarry has left deck 3; so Bele keeps running round in circles, passing Rec Room 3 twice!

Turn off the gravity and practice zero-g maneuvers, combat, ballet, etc. The room doesn't necessarily have to be just for recreation. Perhaps there's a storage room filled with vatious materials that let you use it for many different functions. Recreation may just be it's default use.

I dunno... probably the same reason why there is a 3+ story rec room in TMP? On the unseen 2nd floor wall there is a giant viewscreen for Sunday Night football? :D

Yeah, I can buy that although Spock is the one that tracked them passing Rec Room 3 on both decks 3 and 5 :)

:lol::lol::lol:

As regards the ceiling height, you can see a portion of it when Kirk first sneaks through the backstage area:

Actually, Spock never says that Bele has arrived on Deck 5; it is implied by the fact that Bele is there by the shot of him running along a similar corridor to Lokai - but then again, all the corridors are similar! ;)

I like the shoulder stock/power pack. Still not entirely sold on the beam emitter. The stock looks like something you add on while the emitter looks more like something you have to disassemble the pistol to create.

I'd suggest for the stock to have frame that the power packs slot into. Otherwise, these would be "special" power packs that have some kind of connector at the bottom (to allow the two to connect) which I don't recall seeing on the props.
