Deanna Troi: What changes would you make

Status
Not open for further replies.
Protocol Officer Troi might have reacted differently too. :)

Protocol Officer Troi would probably wield so much power that he would be in no position to argue against what her Big Book of Protocol told her he needed to do. I dunno who first suggested Protocol Officer Troi in this thread but the idea of her opens up an entiterely different take on the TNG universe. So far when I think of any au's for TNG it's either the Yesterday's Enterprise timeline or the Mirror Mirror timeline that they (criminally) didn't do. A ship and a universe for TNG that had a Protocol Officer is very intriguing. Perhaps it might have happened if the Berlin Wall had never fallen and ultimately the Communuists "won" the Cold War; or if there was a rise in Fascism sometime at the end of the 20th beginning of the 21st centuries. I'd like to see a long, convoluted fanfic about it. :)

That would be rather interesting. Of course, according to a certain barely-legible dedication plaque, the USSR might not have fallen in the Trekverse anyway...

I think I prefer First Contact Specialist/Xenobiologist/Xenopsychologist Troi the most. Split 'science officer' duties between her and Data.

Well if they had split Spock into Deanna + Data an early idea for the roles of both of them we might have had that.

I'm still working on other my plot ideas.

Thanks Praetor

The Next one is long like the 2nd body swap idea TPTB would not we willing to to this one either, the one after that is inspired by Spock's Brain re-worked for Deanna Troi

As a Deanna Troi fan, I'm really impressed with the ideas put forth in this thread. I've always related more to Deanna's character personally more than any other character, but feel she never lived up to the potential she could have.

I've taken part in discussions with other fans who believe she is a weak link on the crew, or that the show may have been better without her. I've really enjoyed reading everyone's comments here because it is apparant that there are many Troi fans. I can't suggest anything that hasn't been mentioned yet, but I appreciate being around like-minded people when it comes to perspectives on Deanna Troi!

I definitely wouldn't want her ditched. She just needed more to do. I guess I am a Troi fan. :)

More on
Skin of Evil Version 2:

I still think
Skin of Evil would work better as Season 3 or 4
That Deanna and Armus Merge as a result Deanna becomes an Evil Twin Version [E.T.V.] of herself and Armus becomes Good. E.T.V. Deanna is taken back to the ship where she starts to turn on the CREW and use her Telepathic powers on the crew to harm them, the Doctor and the Captian have to figue out if a mind transfer has taken place between Deanna & Armus, Armus is cntrolling Deanna, is Armus a shape-shifter and assumed Deanna's idenity after killing her or is it something else.

The crew has to trun to the Good Armus for help

2 Parter or 3 Parter
This has been running around in my head for a few weeks:
Skin of Evil Version 3 -- Season 3 or 4:

Another idea I had to rework this episode is at the being of a plot arc over several episodes. As I mentioned earlier in this topic Deanna is a FULL Telepath and Telekinetic. Actress instead of actor to play the part of Armus; the entity Armus is determined to escape her prison and decides to merge with Deanna in order to escape from this wasteland.

They become one and learn everything about each other, a few hours pass and then their new conciseness separates. Armus tries to hold on but it does not work, their conciseness switch forms. Deanna Troi’s conciseness merges with the liquid form of Armus and the conciseness of Armus enters the body of Deanna Troi. Armus comes out the worse for wear since she has become less advanced life form also as a side effect of this Armus is suffering almost total amnesia; Deanna has access to the SUM of their memories when they were merged. However Deanna’s new mind is in a state of disarray her mind is like a sea storm, she completely destroys the shuttlecraft as she exits it unable to yet properly control the strength/abilities of her new body with Armus trapped inside of her.

The away team lands on the planet and witness the fate of the shuttlecraft and this alien life form expelling a body from within it (her) about ten minutes later which of course they view as Deanna but is not. Tasha confronts the alien life form Deanna just as she is about to try and let the away team know that her mind is no longer in her body but in this alien life form, Tasha does not believe her and neither does the rest of the away team.
Deanna still somewhat disorientated by the transfer and agitated responds to Tasha’s confrontational attitude with a self preservation response combined with anger and attacks her. Deanna breaks every bone in her body and snaps her neck, Riker and Data open fire on Deanna with no visible effect the away team escapes with Armus.

Deanna reaches out with her new abilities to stop the Enterprise from leaving, as a result Picard open communication with what he thinks is an alien life form, and Dr. Crusher informs the Captain that Troi has severe amnesia; Deanna tries again to explain her predicament to Captain Picard but to no avail the Captain and the Doctor come to the conclusion that the Alien was trying to control Deanna and reached into her mind and that is why it has knowledge of her life and not because of a mind transfer. Deanna has failed again; she completely looses her temper and lashes out at the Enterprise. The ship takes moderate damage at first then serious damage (200 dead and injured combined as a result) Data devices a method to disorientate the alien, Data enacts his plan it works better than expected Alien Deanna is rendered unconscious.

The Enterprise limps away from the wasteland planet, Danna regains consciousness the depth of her situation sinks in she accidentally killed Tasha, attacked her shipmates who knows how many are dead or injured. Her body has been stolen someone else his living her life right now, she has been abandoned by her crew and she is stranded on a wasteland planet how will she escape and convince them of the truth. Will Starfleet send vessels to subdue her and contain her for transport to holding facility or some sort of status unit? Or worse yet sent to a laboratory to poked and examined for the rest of her days she thinks out loud “Am I even mortal anymore” “Is the transfer permanent !?”
Deanna becomes hysterical

The rest of the plot arc deals with Deanna learning to control her new form/body learning to become a shape-shifter so she can assume humanoid appearance to interact with people better, getting off her prison, dealing with Starfleet and tracking down the Enterprise and getting them to see the truth. Getting her life back and her body is the transfer permanent? Armus regaining her memory and impersonating Deanna Troi as well as getting of the ship at the best possible moment and trying to get Starfleet to place her old body in a kind of status unit.

I HOPE to have my re-work of this posted within 24 hours
It takes the walking a mile in someone else's skin route and personality inversion Troi goes Evil and Armus Goes Good.

Skin of Evil Version 3 part 2
As in my quoted Plot Arc Deanna is a FULL Telepath and Telekinetic, actress instead of actor to play the part of Armus (Season 3 or Season 4)
Deanna Armus = Deanna’s mind in the form of Armus
Armus Troi/Deanna Troi II = Armus inside of Deanna Troi

Deanna Armus now having clamed down from hysterical state she worked herself into as a result of: accidentally killing Tasha Yar failing to make the away team aware of the calamity that has befallen her that an alien life form has exchanged bodies with her as well as turning on her shipmates by attacking the Enterprise after she failed a second time to alert someone anyone to the event that had taken place before the away team had landed on the planet. “Well now what should I do first; learn to control my new body” I remember what happed when Ira Graves took over Data’s body he could not properly handle Data’s strength she thinks. “Well I’m going have to learn how to manipulate my new body and see how strong it is, I’ll start with transforming into three dimensional objects” “Why am I speaking out loud there is nobody here to hear me!”

Deanna Armus focuses her mind on transforming into a Sphere this takes twelve minuets; well that took to long Deanna Armus thought let’s try that again six minuets and again three minuets and finally one minuet. She moves on to a Cone, Cube, Pyramid and finally a Dodecahedron. Deanna Armus Moves on to forms in nature, animals and finally persons, this takes several weeks, during this time she also be comes aware that she does not need to eat while in this form. A paranoid idea begins to grow in the mind of Deanna Armus that the crew of the Enterprise somehow planed this mind transfer with Armus beforehand; at first Deanna Armus tries to fight the paranoid delusion that this mind transfer was planned beforehand between her shipmates and Armus! Deanna tries to fight off this paranoid delusion for six days and succeeds but on the seventh day Deanna can no longer hold of this delusion and it becomes a fact in her mind, now Deanna Armus wants to get off this wasteland not to reclaim her original life as Deanna Troi but to avenge what was done to her by Armus and underhanded shipmates.

Next she practices her ability to direct energy to affect others and objects by destroying rock formations on the planet and finally Deanna Armus reaches out with an energy discharge to the warning beacon which destroys it Deanna laughs. “Well know I will get my chance to test out my enhanced telepathic abilities on the crews Starfleet sends to investigate the destruction of the beacon” While waiting for Starfleet ships Deanna Armus decides to pick a new humanoid appearance a similar face but much taller appearance from 160 cm 5’3 /63 in to 184 cm 6’0/72.44 in “Well what else am I able to with my new body I wonder” Deanna Armus tries to alter some of the rocks on the planet, she focuses on transforming the rocks she has moved over and they transform into rubber pleased with herself Deanna Armus tries again and is able to transform another set of rocks into metal and finally one last set of rocks into a body!

Meanwhile back on the Enterprise at the same time Armus Troi was learning how to be humanoid and live the life of Counsellor Deanna Troi, in the first few days after the body exchange Armus Troi was still not sure she really was he had flashes of Armus but most of the memories she began to regain were of Danna Troi so much so that after the second week aboard the Enterprise she forgot who she really was and honestly thought that she had always been Armus Troi ship’s Counsellor with a few flashes of another identity. Who a few weeks ago had barely escaped an encounter with a malevolent life form named Deanna that tried to exchange bodies with her and killed Tasha Yar. “That Deanna thing on the wasteland planet must be contained and taken to a research facility” Armus Troi thought out loud “Deanna wait that’s my name Deanna Troi NO it’s NOT I’m Armus Troi? Deanna?”

Beverly is walking by and hears Troi confusion about her identity “Don’t try so hard Deanna you have been through quite an experience remember your recovering from almost total amnesia and you also have another beings memories stuck inside your head, it’s only been three weeks” “I know” says Armus Troi “But I do not know whether I’m coming or going, who am I and I’m not sure of my own name at times” “It will all come back give it time Troi” says Beverly; a few weeks pass and things clear up for Armus Troi one time ship’s Counsellor. She no longer has flashes of memory form that malevolent life-form that killed Tasha Yar. Over a three week period Deanna Troi II starts visiting the primary school aboard ship again there no mishaps no violent urges toward the children or any violent thoughts towards any of the senior officers anymore; Best of all is the fact that the intense urge to use Captain Picard’s experience as Locutus as a means of breaking his mind and controlling him so she can take the Enterprise to the planet where those who cast off Armus relocated to get revenge are gone!

All seems well until one day two weeks after she resumes her duties as ship’s Counsellor after senior staff meetings a watch on the bridge and seeing several patients she turns in for the night Deanna Troi II has a nightmare about what happened on the wasteland planet this continued for four nights consecutively; the nightmare gets more intense and is a variation on what happened on the wasteland planet. On the first night Deanna Troi II dreams that she is attacking the malevolent life form Deanna Armus and to her surprise she defeats her but then the away team attacks her claiming that she has been corrupted by Deanna Armus and leave her on the planet, Deanna Troi II wakes up screaming “Take me with you I can be trusted!” On the second night Deanna Troi II defeats Deanna Armus, but this time Tasha Yar comes back to life and starts yelling at Deanna Troi II “You killed me Deanna you should be dead Deanna not me!” and then attacks her, Tasha leaves with the away team Deanna Troi II wakes up screaming “I’m sorry Tasha please forgive me”

On the third night Deanna Troi II’s nightmare deals with the several hours that her and Deanna Armus were merged as one; first she experiences the merging from what she thinks is her point of view half an hour of this goes by Deanna Troi II has never been so sacred “Please Stop I do Not Want to Be Part of You Armus!” Next we see a shot looking down at Deanna Troi II in her bed crying and shaking she starts to loose control of her telekinetic abilities and levitates up from her bed one metre six times in twelve minuets. Then the nightmare’s point of view changes to Armus “Why am I seeing myself?” asks Deanna Troi II “No I don’t want to experience this from Armus’s point of view!” Then it all starts to come back to her all repressed memories her original identity Armus come flooding back to Deanna Troi II in a matter of seconds.

She is Armus and she exchanged bodies with Deanna Troi to escape her prison, at first Deanna Troi II goes in to denial for ten minuets and becomes hysterical “I am Deanna Troi NOT Armus, I am Deanna Troi NOT Armus, I am Deanna Troi NOT Armus!” She looses control of her telekinetic abilities and levitates 2m/200cm | 78.74 in/6’6 3/4ft off her bed her body spins violently several times doing a full 360 several glass items in her quarters shatter and she ends up hitting a wall in her quarters; After the dizziness passes Deanna Troi II accepts the truth that she is Armus and she exchanged bodies with Deanna Troi to escape her prison “I was Armus I have taken over the life of Deanna Troi; I like this identity and life for the first time in my existence I have had some self control and I am not consumed by my darkness I am not the object of shame even children like me” “I like this Life I intend to keep it at all costs I Am Deanna Troi The Second” she laughs. On the forth and final time the nightmare is a waking one. Unfortunately this takes place during a senior staff meeting it plays out like did in reality except this time Deanna Troi II does not suffer almost total amnesia; but a few days later Deanna Troi II regains the abilities she had as Armus and turns on the crew of the Enterprise, Deanna Troi II comes to and realises that she the dark side of personality is back and that she will channel it somehow into some kind of activity or everything she has worked for will be ruined; Also she realises that he has made a spectacle of herself in front of the senior officers!

The rest of the plot arc deals with Deanna Armus using the two Starfleet vessels set to investigate what happened on the wasteland planet as playthings and a means of escape, the USS Hope and the USS Vindicator, both Ambassador class. The fate of the USS Hope is tragic (TOS: Day of the Dove) would be an big improvement for them 25% of the crew dead another 25% stuck in a cycle of violence like Day of the Dove and the remainder driven insane USS Hope is set adrift in space by Deanna Armus. USS Vindicator the crew is 25% empathic 75% telepaths the ships Captain: Female Mix of Betazoid, Vulcan and Deltan Captain Vextra gets tricked by Deanna Armus and comes down to the planet gets absorbed and becomes part of Deanna Armus. Using her new identity as Captain Vextra she is able to bend the crew to her will ad perform upgrades to the ship using the Arums part of her technical knowledge, what trouble will the rouge USS Vindicator cause on its new mission of Vindication against Starfleet and Enterprise?

Deanna Troi the Second recovering from the embarrassment in front of the senior officers and being removed from active duty again and having to work her way back to ships counsellor a second time. Will Deanna Troi II be able to channel/control her darkness? Will the crew of the Enterprise find out that the person they think is Deanna Troi is really Armus? Will they be able to restore the real Deanna Troi to her senses will they be able to trust each other again; the final showdown with the original Deanna Troi who will live and who will DIE?

That's pretty cool. :)

I will have to digest and reread for more helpful criticism. But I like it.

I don't understand how anyone could think a Ship's Counselor is a useless position. Not a week goes by where somebody doesn't get possessed by an alien entity, assimilated, captured and prodded by Romulans, probed by strange devices, etc. etc.

After what starship crews went through in the TOS-era, it's no surprise that nearly every ship would have a shrink.

Very True CaptainStoner, but the way Deanna was written made here role come across as spear tire (US)/tyre (UK) at times

So here are a few of my ideas:
Kept her a full Telepath
1/4 Human
More intelligent than most of the crew

Episoide Ideas: Spock's Brain A re-work of this for Troi her Brain get implanted inside a being LIKE Tin Man

More Later
I will work on this idea but it will NOT be as long as my ideas for Skin of Evil.
I will post somtime in the new week.

I think these two posts sum up my personal thoughts on the whole Troi thing. I really wish that the writers had written her better.
