Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 5

Did you actually read the story and what he said? He explained why he feels the way he does, and it makes perfect sense to me.

He just made that announcement. He really didn't give a real reason. It made no sense. Like I said, it's acting. If that's a part you're lucky enough to get (any actor/any part), it's work. It pays bills. It's not like LoT is anti-gay and he wants to distance himself from them.

Yes, and he said that he doesn't want to play straight characters any more because "their stories have been told, and told."
I can definitely understand an actor who is part of an underrepresented community wanting to focus on playing members of that community as a way to bring their stories more into focus.
It's not all that different from Star Trek: Discovery hiring a trans and non-binary actor to play it's trans and non-binary characters, or Supergirl hiring a trans actress to Dreamer.

But that isn't always enough. If someone's a member of a historically marginalized group, if they've been surrounded all their life with messages that they should deny or be ashamed of their identity, I can easily understand why they'd value being true to that identity over just earning an income. There are other kinds of survival beyond the monetary.

Hey, the guy got himself to a point in his career where he has the luxury to pick and choose his roles. He's certainly not the first performer to only take the parts he wants. It's a sign of success.

And he recently went through a period of self-reflection where he took a break from acting altogether. This is certainly not a snap decision, but something he has obviously thought long and hard about. He is a great actor and it is good to see that he has found himself in a place where he can pick and choose his roles.

I figure he has enough money that he can take whatever roles he wants. Though I wonder how. He seems to have a good solid resume but at the same time he isn't a big movie star like Tom Hanks or Brad Pitt and so forth. Actors where it makes sense that you can basically take or leave any project offered to you.

Jason

He probably made some pretty good money off of Prison Break.

Yeah, if a TV actor gets a popular enough role and has it for long enough they can eventually just live really well off of residuals (see the casts of shows like Friends and Big bang Theory, which are rumored to make millions of dollars per year just from their residuals). Prison Break probably doesn't do that well, I'm not super familiar with the show, but it could do well enough so that he can pick whatever jobs he wants.

I wonder how residuals work these days. Do actors get paid every time someone watches a show they were in on Netflix or Hulu and so forth.

Jason

I don't think that would even be possible, the companies would go broke if they tried to do that. I have a feeling if the actors do get any money when a show goes to a streaming service it's probably a one time payment.

With that said, actors do still receive residuals, but the amount of the residuals is much, much less than what usually accompanies work on a cable network, commercial, or movie. In fact, the amount was said to be so minuscule that in July of 2017 the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), together with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, suggested the residuals from streaming services be increased and expedited.

Watched the Season finale yesterday. Can't say how much i hate the fact that they didn't kept the original Zari around. Would have been so much fun if both versions would have been able to stay and we may have gotten some really interesting stories out of it.

And we haven't seen nearly enough interaction between her, new Zari and her brother :sigh:

They said they didn't want both zari's, which would make sense it would probably get crowded, but they never justified why they didn't just keep the original Zari and get rid of the shity social media influencer version. As far as I can tell, the answer is the same to every question involving bad decisions on LOT, the writers and producers are all terrible.

Could have been funny to keep both Zaris around, but yeah if one of them had to leave i would have rather kept Zari 1.0. Way better character and it would have been nice to see the dynamics of her and Behrad together in the same time stream and how they would relate to each other.

Yeah, that is one of the decisions they've made on Legends that I didn't like. Zari 2.0 was kind of fun as an alternate version of the character, but I was really hoping they'd go back to 1.0 eventually.

No they said it would make a lot of extra work the actress both on set and in make-up etc.

It would work of the odd appearance of both Zari's but for an ongoing thing it wasn't practical.

It would also eat into their SFX budget and shooting schedule.

Yes they did.

Zari 1.0 flat-out states her presence is causing a temporal disturbance that's killing Behrad due to him being dead in her timeline. Thus she has to go back into the Air Totem so Behrad can live.
