Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Season 2

Actually, we are. Arrow and The Flash operate pretty much in real-time (as does Supergirl).
Nope. we watch an hour episode that covers multiple hours and days in some cases. They are in no way "real time". Heck, that argument barely works for 24, a show who's whole gimmick is purportedly "real time".

It might even be interesting to have an episode of Arrow and The Flash that explore how Doomworld has affected them.

Well, we saw how Doomworld affected them -- Darhk killed them all and displayed their masks as trophies. So I don't think that really would've been viable. ;)

It just makes more sense to keep the Legends storyline separate. Plus, from an in-universe standpoint, it could be argued that Arrow and Flash never experience the doomworld reality since the legends undo it. The Legends were directly affected by the new reality so they experienced it but Arrow and Flash only experience the "final" reality after Legends fix things. it is simple and neat.

Yeah, but it would've been better presentation if they hadn't been shown back-to-back. I mean, basically we were told everything would work out okay just before we were presented with the crisis. It kind of dispels the tension.

This topic brings to mind the forced and often horrible tie -ins readers are made to suffer through during company wide events comics publishers put out. Often times causing long term plans to be scuttled.

Just let each show do it's own thing.

For the record, the problem of Arrow and Flash being disconnected from Legends and consequently undermining that show's narrative could have been easily solved by just not airing Disbanded and Abra Kadabra until after Legends' season ended.

Both shows are already on a 3 week hiatus now, so postponing said hiatus by two weeks and then taking an additional week off after the airing of Disbanded and Abra Kadabra would've worked much better and wouldn't disrupt the internal narrative flow of either series or contradict/conflict with Legends' "Doomworld" story.

Again, why are you so hell-bent on keeping 4 shows in synch when A LOT of the people who watch Supergirl, Flash, and Arrow may NOT watch Legends and vice-versa? NONE of this is real -- all these shows are absolute fantasy to begin with.

You say that like the network has no say in scheduling and the showrunners have all the power. There are other factors, most notably, other returning shows whose schedules aren't dictated by the writing staff of Legends.

It's not like there isn't precedent. As I mentioned, they made sure that "Flashpoint" aired and wrapped up its timeline-changing narrative before the other Earth-1 shows' season premieres. And didn't Supergirl have a rerun a few weeks ago to make sure that it would line up with the Flash crossover? The reason we have an expectation of the shows staying in sync is because there's precedent for them doing so. It seems they've been trying to avoid a repeat of the badly out-of-sync handling of last season's Flash/Supergirl crossover, where the Flash side of the event happened weeks after the Supergirl side.

And again, let's not blow this out of proportion. Saying that something could've been done better doesn't have to be some all-or-nothing battle of extremes with no quarter given.

This is more a case of me misreading the level of your criticism, which is my fault entirely. :)

I don't agree that Supergirl is happening in real time with the other universes..... wasn't there a decent time jump to get Jimmy settled in as Captain Amer.... Guardian? And to push along the relationships?

Also, any episode that ends as a direct continuation into the next episode can't be happening in realtime, either. In a viewing order, it doens't need to be a cycle... it can definitely be split up into arc based storylines, in which case both LoT episodes can be watched before the next Arrow/Flash. Its just like the numbering of comic books on paper... :)

^ Supergirl's season is running concurrently with the events that are happening on Earth-1 on Arrow and The Flash, but has actually been depicting events spanning a much longer period of time (9 months [May to March] compared to the 5 or so months [October to March] we've seen covered in Arrow and The Flash) due to the fact that its Season Premiere picked up right where its first Season finale left off instead of jumping ahead 4 months or so the way that Arrow and The Flash did.

I'd say the writers/producers intended it to be that way with it airing on Thursdays but then the network decided to move the show to Tuesday at 9 in 2017.

I actually still watch it on Thursday nights after the wife and the baby go to sleep so I could still have 4 nights a week of superhero fun.

^ Legends staying on Thursday wouldn't have solved anything because we'd still be seeing a storyline unfold on the show that is incompatible with the storylines going on on The Flash and Arrow and consequently doesn't make sense.

Literally the only way to solve this issue would've been for the viewing schedules of Arrow and The Flash to have been altered in order to provide a 'narrative window ' for the Doomworld story to play itself out without being contradicted by those two series' own ongoing narratives.

Not really altered, since they're both on hiatus for the next few weeks anyway. If they'd altered the LoT schedule just slightly instead -- delayed "Doomworld" by one more week, maybe shown it back to back with the finale this coming week -- that would've been enough.

@Christopher I chose to put emphasis on The Flash and Arrow altering their schedules precisely BECAUSE they're now on hiatus for 3 weeks. Giving us the same 3-week hiatus split up by having the shows go dark for 2 weeks, come back on to air Abra Kadabra and Disbanded, and then go dark again for another week would've solved the problem much more neatly (IMO) than having Legends take a break or having Doomworld and Aruba air back-to-back.

^It seems less neat to me because it requires a more radical change from what they actually did. My fix requires only a single change from the existing schedule, so it would've been simpler to do. Anyway, we agree on the principle, so it's pointless to argue over the details. It's all wishful thinking either way.

yeah cos at the end of the day it's the network that sets the broadcast dates and the producers have to have the ep all set to go.

Why do people insist on trotting out this argument, which doesn't even remotely make sense in regards to how Legends has presented its narrative vis a vis what the Spear of Destiny is supposed to do?

Maybe I really am a "nation of one" in regards to my stance on how absolutely nonsensical and stupid the way this whole thing has unfolded relative to what we're seeing happen on The Flash and Arrow is.

* Sigh *

Unfortunately, I think you are alone on this. Sorry. Yes, from a "realism" standpoint, you are right that the shows should be consistent with each other. In theory, yes, we should see the effects of Doomworld on Arrow and Flash. In theory, yes, the spear of destiny should alter the realities of Arrow and Flash too. It might even be interesting to have an episode of Arrow and The Flash that explore how Doomworld has affected them. Those are the only arguments I can come up with in favor it. But there are stronger arguments against it. It would mess up the writing process for Arrow and Flash since those shows have different writing teams. It would confuse the audience who don't watch Legends. And it is not needed since the "doomworld" reality is going to be undone anyway. You are asking Arrow and Flash to move around their stories, insert an alt reality episode that would confuse the audience, only to change everything back once Legends fixes things. It just makes more sense to keep the Legends storyline separate. Plus, from an in-universe standpoint, it could be argued that Arrow and Flash never experience the doomworld reality since the legends undo it. I am closer to Romulan_spy and others on this one.

These shows are NOT like March Madness -- in that scenario, the "shows"interlock... you really ought to watch the quarterfinals BEFORE you see the semifinals, as who is playing in them is dependent on previous shows.
With DCTV, unless it is a crossover event, each show can be its "own world" for a period of time.

I think of the shows like the comic books they bring to life -- the May issue of Superman, might not affect anything in Justice League, in may, or June, or even into next year.

And with Legends being a time travel show, we need to see the whole season (or segment of season) before we "ought" to see resulting changes (if any ) in other shows. So it would be the storyline from October to May issues, so we have to worry about the internal consistency before worrying abut how it affects other comics (if at all).

Flashpoint transgendered John Diggle's child, thus "changed" those scenes form previous seasons about the baby. Not so much that for some reason, people haven't debated about it, but enough that the time travel did something to the other shows.

However, I would like Legends to be the "filler" in between Flash runs, so we don't have too much of this unneeded overlap (or really too many shows for me to watch in a week)

One of the producers have said a new character for next season is someone introduced in another media and not comic books. But someone completely new to the Arrowverse.

Any guesses on who it could be? I going to make a crazy prediction but with some reasoning to it. These producers like making references to the Super Friends cartoons. It is unlikely any of those original characters will be ever used in the movies. I am guessing Apache Chief. Who has been given the better name in newer animated shows of Longshadow.

Batman Beyond/Terry McGinnis? DC seems reluctant to let TV use Batman, but they allowed Gotham as a prequel, so maybe they'd allow a sequel. And it would fit the time-travel premise of the series.

Or it could be an original character created for the Batman Beyond milieu, like Zeta, the shapeshifting android assassin-with-a-conscience.
