Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Season 2

And I don't agree that it is that different. The reason for the change is just the beginning of the process, the catalyst.

I'd say there's a crucial difference: choice. If someone's reconsidering their creative decisions for creative reasons, of their own volition, they can choose whichever version works best. If the older idea is better, they can ultimately stick with it; if the newer one is better, they can go with that. With changes forced by circumstance, on the other hand, they do not get that choice. Even if the new idea is inferior to the old, they have to go with it.

Oh, my gods, no. You can't choose what will work best. If that were possible, creativity would be like a million times easier and nothing would ever be bad. You can only choose what you think will work best. And often, as I've been trying to explain, what you thought was best the first time actually wasn't best, and once circumstances force you to take a second look, you realize that you can do better.

Creators are human, and therefore fallible. We don't automatically get it right the first time, or on our own initiative. Sometimes we just don't have the perspective to realize that there's something better than the ideas we have. And that's why any impetus to take a second look or try a different tack is healthy for the process, whether it's an outside circumstance or the criticism of a beta reader or editor.

If the older idea is better, they can ultimately stick with it; if the newer one is better, they can go with that. With changes forced by circumstance, on the other hand, they do not get that choice. Even if the new idea is inferior to the old, they have to go with it.

Of course you have a choice. That's the great thing about it. Sure, you have to give up your first-draft idea, but you get to choose what you come up with to replace it, and that gives you the opportunity to imagine something even better. I mean, you're talking as if there are only two ideas to choose from, and that's ridiculous. Ditching your first idea leaves room for countless alternatives. If your second idea isn't as good as the one you had to discard, then you toss out the second idea and come up with a third. And so on, until you hit on something really good. After all, that "first" idea you had to ditch was itself probably the end result of a fair amount of trial and error, with a number of earlier ideas considered and tossed out already. Because that's how writing works. You don't get fully formed ideas handed to you by a muse, you have to work at it until you figure out something viable. That "first" idea was the outgrowth of a process. So having to come up with a different alternative is just resuming that process.

Hell, first drafts are meant to be disposable. That's how the process works. It's not like giving away your firstborn or something. It's practice. The more times you try to shoot for the basket, the more opportunity you have to improve your aim.

I was just talking about Minority Report yesterday in the Donald trump thread.

(Nick Zano was in Minority report.)

Oh, she was the one whose part in The Force Awakens was cut out except for one shot. Wow, she's gorgeous, and looks not unlike Megalyn Echikunwoke. Good choice.

And I see she's playing Mari's grandmother. I guess that means she'd come from maybe 40-60 years in the past? And presumably from Africa, given Vixen's backstory. It'll be nice to have a regular character from somewhere other than America or Europe, although I hope they portray Africa in a less stereotyped way than the webseries did (it's not just small villages and wild animals).

"When I first read my script, I kept reading [Dominic Pucell's] lines because it was under Rory," Darvill recalled. "I kept thinking, 'That's a weird line for me to say.'"

Good to know it happens to him, too.

I like the logo. Simple, uncomplicated and easy to recognize. Now I only hope the team itself does not let me down.
