DC to REBOOT???

Just finished the final issue of Batgirl as well and thought it was a wonderful end to what has been a terrific book. One question though as Allyn Gibson brought up in the last page of the thread:
Was the Black Mercy induced visions real foreshadowing? Or merely just dreams? Since we saw her as a Blue Lantern among other things in that the dream, including some funky weird future stuff (I love the little salute by Damian) I'm not sure what to think

^ The salute actually happened. The Black Mercy stuff was all dreams, but it is likely it was inspired by various ideas Miller had for Steph.

I liked the issue as it closed off the character, but at the same time, the issue was one of not much happening. Also, the Steph surviving the Black Mercy stuff with seemingly relative ease killed a lot of the suspense to the point that I was wondering if she was still under the spell by the end of the issue. I suppose that might have been intentional.

Some interesting bits in this week's Comic Shop News. I don't know if this has been revealed elsewhere (after 150 pages, anything could be out there), but I found some new things to me.

* Superman's cape is his baby blanket. Morrison compares it to Linus and his blanket.
* Lex Luthor is a government consultant who is a "good guy" in the book. Lex is still bald.
* The New Gods are slated to make an appearance in Multiversity (scheduled for 2012). Also, the multiverse still exists and Multiversity is supposed to touch upon it.
* The unknown female character in the Justice League promo image is Lady Luck.
* Steel is making an appearance in Action Comics.
* All the previous versions of the Teen Titans still happened.
* DC was considering finale, "Send-Off" issues, but decided against it.

Other DC news: Superman Earth One, Volume Two is coming along and Parasite is the featured villain.

As an aside, apparently Marvel is releasing a new line of hardcover graphic novels next year featuring their popular characters at or retelling the beginning of their careers. The banner of the series is called Season One. And one hand copies the other. :p

Some of that is known yep particularly about Morrison's comments about Superman's cape he mentioned that at SDCC. Same with the knowledge about Superman Earth One Volume Two (I posted some of this earlier in the thread) ...interesting about Luthor. I think that is the first time we've heard anything about Lex in the New 52. Kind ofinterested in Marvel's Season One concept...I might check out the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man graphic novels.

I'm glad they're letting the previous versions of the Teen Titans stick around. At least half of what I've read so far has been people jumping to conclusions based on what little infor had been released at the time, but I swear I had heard some folks talking about how in the new 52 Cyborg had started in the JLA and never been in TT. And I think that was partly what led to me thinking TT was being pretty much rebooted. In any case "all of TT happened" is a lot to jam into five years.

So who is/are the characters that are being 100% rebooted in the sense that the version we meet in the new 52 will be the only version that existed, dumping previous continuity?

I think basically everyone except the Green Lantern characters, the Batman family, and the Legion of Superheroes, I'm probably generalizing here but ya it would be nice to have a list. Regarding the Teen Titans, yeah DC has stated that the version used in the relaunch will be meeting each other for the first time, not that the previous Titans teams never existed. It's been easy for fans to come to conclusions or judge things given the way the information has been presented to us since last month.

But a whole lot of characters have been in TT over the years. I guess we assume Supergirl or Donna Troy or anyone else like that just wasn't in those older stories. Seems like there should be an asterisk after "All the previous versions of the Teen Titans still happened" followed by pages of small print explaining the exceptions.

I'm not complaining and I realize we'll learn as we go, but the TT thing seems like a big statement to make.

I think Donna still exists in the relaunch since Cassie does as Wonder Girl. Not sure of her status.
I don't know if we'll see Donna Troy soon. This is supposed to be a quote of Bob Wayne at DC Comics

You won’t be seeing Donna Troy yet in the new DCU, nor the Stephanie and Cassandra Batgirls.
http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=373825

The issue might be one of handling Donna's origin (hopefully they aren't trying to come up with yet another.) Cassie's origin is easy to transfer into the new DCU. Perhaps they want only one identifiable Wonder Girl at the moment or the above quote could be BS. We'll see.

So does everyone else feel that the past few months of DC comics have been complete filler? It feels like all the good creative teams and stories ended 6 months ago and we've been getting interims until the relaunch. Batman and Robin... Supergirl... Wonder Woman and Superman for the entire year thanks JMS... Bird of Prey... Booster Gold... post-Lex Action Comics... Power Girl...

Yes, very much so, Flashpoint itself feels like a filler story. I looked at the Wonder Woman story and just put it back. The main book simply doesn't interest me at all either but that's more my disinterest in most character mosh stories.

I'm not even talking about Flashpoint, which is really REALLY just filler, I'm talking the main continuity books. They just all feel like a waste of time. The only thing that's actually happened in the mainstream DCU in the past few months is the War of the Green Lanterns, really. Everything else is just standalone stories by mainly interim creators.

The more I learn, the more it seems like nothing has changed except everything I liked got cancelled.

Ooooooooooh--Parasite! The most compelling rogue of them all!

Frankly there should be an asterisk in this entire "new" continuity.

I think they're gonna have enough problems with the Wildstorm stuff than to try to force in a humorous Gaulish savage.

Certainly, that is what the last year of Wonder Woman amounts to. Given that Flashpoint and the relaunch would have required considerable planning I imagine that is why JMS left Superman and Wonder Woman so easily. Wonder Woman's tale was a hamster wheel of a plot that the 3rd volume had done 3 times- separated from the Amazons and the gods was her state at the outset of that relaunch, again after Amazons Attack, and yet again in miniature during Simone's run in the Warkiller arc. Couple that with it happening in some kind of semi-elseworld state separate from the DC Universe, except when it wasn't, and it was a completely pointless endeavor created as a placeholder till the relaunch. I had no love at all for Simone's run, but why not have let her continue her work and finish up her story arcs credibly rather than rush them for a story that was to be summarily dumped is a mystery to me.

The Superman Saga should have pretty much just finished with New Krypton, it was a nice little "series finale" feeling, he finally gets reunited with his people then they all die. Did we really need a year long Forrest Gump story?

I've been reading WW but I've never been terribly into it. Simone's run was certainly miles above the JMS run, though.

I thought that Wonder Woman improved dramatically once JMS left and Phil Hester took over. I don't know what Chris Roberson could possibly have done with the mess he was handed in Superman though.

Then Paul Cornell ended up having to finish up that stupid Doomsday storyline that had nothing to do with his book but somehow ended up there anyway...

I would have loved to have gotten a real Paul Cornell driven Superman book, even if it was just these last few months before the relaunch.

I'm forced to concur with your take on things, though I still am buying some of the Flashpoint books. It just seems like such a lost opportunity. As for the rest of the DC books, I've stopped buying most of them, except for Green Lantern and THUNDER Agents. Once I found out about the reboot, I was thinking, what's the point?
