Don't really think I've been a fan of Bill Willingham. Tried to get into "Fables" but failed lol. I have read and heard great things about it but just have never been able to get all the updated trades from the library to read it in one go. I hate when the library has scattered volumes and you can't read in the order you're supposed to. I remember he did a run on "Robin".

Speaking of Robin...anyone think we'll ever get a Damian Wayne ongoing series? I'm kind of surprised that we haven't at this point. DC has just started to have him interact with the greater DCU. Perhaps this will be one of the Second Wave books in the relaunch?

An interesting tidbit of information from Chris Arrant’s latest “Late List” for CBR: Batman, Incorporated #9 and 10 will not be released, due to late shipping. Instead, #8 will be the last issue of the series, with the material intended for the final two issues being combined into a oneshot called Batman Incorporated: Leviathan Strikes to act as a bridge between the original series and 2012′s twelve issue second volume.

Yeah kind of expected something like that to happen. Morrison pretty much hinted at SDCC that they would do this. We're supposed to find out who Leviathan is.

Why is the comiic industry so tolerant of delayed releases? Any other industry and the person reponsible would be fired instantly.

I think it is because people still buy the books regardless of lateness. Add in any critical successes, and you have a writer/artist that is "allowed" to be late.

On the other hand, if Writer X was continually late with his book and sales dropped again and again, Writer X would be out of a job.

It's also the distribution model. With so many comics out on the same day, it's easy for one or two to slip through the cracks. We still keep buying it, so what's the problem for the industry if they do have late shipping titles?

For me, I usually go to the comic shop every two weeks, sometimes longer, so delays don't always affect me (especially if it is delayed a week on my "off-week," I'll still get it the same day).

Besides, films also go through this. Remember how Star Trek was supposed to be in theaters in December '08, but got pushed back to May '09. Of course, there were different reasons, but it's far from the only example of a movie being pushed back. TV shows are often bumped to mid-season.

I read a good chunk of Fables, mostly to see how that major arc was going to end. I was so disappointed, dumped the whole thing on ebay. Fables is seriously overrated.

Besides, films also go through this. Remember how Star Trek was supposed to be in theaters in December '08, but got pushed back to May '09. Of course, there were different reasons, but it's far from the only example of a movie being pushed back. TV shows are often bumped to mid-season.

TV shows are mostly bumped to mid-season because networks have something better they want to try out. RARELY is it because a show isn't ready.

And if you're late with scripts, you're out the door. Even if you're Aaron Sorkin--whose lateness and drug used got him removed from West Wing.

To me it is amazing, with so many people who would want to write/draw for comics, you would think there would be enough pressure to get things done on time, lest someone replace you.

Did they ever finish that Ultimate Hulk vs. Ultimate Wolverine series?

While an interesting point, I don't know how comparable that really is. Movies or TV shows being pushed back have less to do with "We're not done" and more to do with "Lets change the date due to marketing".

Yeah I don't know that I can agree that films are comparable analogy to comic book lateness. There are any number of reasons why films are delayed, while we pretty much know that comics are delayed due to lateness of scripts or in most cases the art isn't finished.

Okay, okay, so maybe not the best analogy, but I was going more for "the public has to wait" angle than the "other products are delayed because of lateness." I'm just in the camp that doesn't find delays that annoying in the grand scheme of things, except for the cases where there is more than a few weeks between issues (or, in the very worst case when the series doesn't get a conclusion). Overall, I'd rather see a good comic come late than a bad comic hit on-time.

On the plus side, if this means the average age of a Robin at the beginning of their career is more like 17, that's a pleasant change of pace. Even ignoring the horrible parenting issues (hi, Jason), I've never been entirely convinced Dick Grayson, age twelve, is a particular threat to any adult, regardless of his acrobatic career and Bat-training. And Damian's basic superhumanity only confuses the issue.

Four of The New 52 are 40-page comics at $3.99 with additional pages of content. They are:

JUSTICE LEAGUE - 24 story pages in #1 with 4 design or extra content pages. 22 story pages starting with #2 with 6 design or extra content pages.

The contents of Jim Lee's trash can are clearly worth an extra dollar.

I received a couple of letters from the new DC subscription service today. They are transferring the rest of my Red Robin subscription to Nightwing. And since Batman, Inc. is "ending" with issue 8, they are transferring that subscription to Batman.

I half-expected the Batman Inc. subscription to go on hiatus along with the series and return whenever it did. Mostly because of my experience with The Flash. I had subscribed to The Flash: Rebirth awhile before it came out (and was actually under the impression it wasn't a miniseries because AFAIK, DC didn't do subscriptions to minis plus I don't think the first couple of issues had #_ of _ on them), and when that was over, they gave me six issues of the regular Flash series.

I am thrilled DC's new service will allow subscriptions of 40 titles now (their previous service didn't offer most of the titles I was interested in), but disappointed that the offer didn't pop up until it was far too late for me to get in on the ground floor with the first issues of the new series. So getting Nightwing from the start is a real plus for me. Does anybody know why subscription services from DC take so long to get started after you pay them money? I mean, yeah, they put a disclaimer on there of something like 8-10 weeks, but two and a half months is a long wait. Is it something to do with them only printing what they know has been ordered?

Other things I've noticed about the new service:
- The issues now come with a single paper backing instead of the old way, which came with one in front and one in back and seemed a little sturdier
- The issues now seem to arrive sooner than they used to (I think the old policy was you get the issue about a month after it is released), but I'm not sure if this is a new policy or if the shipping is slightly off because of the reboot. I hope it's the former.

I'm sure in Flashpoint #5 Batman and Green Lantern will somehow be protected from the time eddies while Superman takes the brunt of it. Something like that.
