DC to REBOOT???

So any guess about how many of these would need to be a success for this to actually work out for them in the end?

It wouldnt matter unless all the comic shops reported that nearly all their subscribers were dropping out because of the change. I have added every book they are putting out to my pull list so thats at least one of everybook they will sell.

I only ever bought Wonder Woman on a regular basis, but stopped with the vol 3 relaunch as I liked none of it. JMS's redo wasn't anymore interesting and I've stayed away though I might get the trades when it is completed. The relaunch WW looks interesting but there is too little information to get either interested or off put, but based on the last 5 years or so I am not holding my breath in anticipation.

WW has gotten better in the second half of the arc. I dropped the book after the first two issues but kind of jumped back on after Diana "met" Superman and Batman during the Generation Lost crossover.

It looks interesting enough to pick up as a trade. I just wasn't interested enough to pick up another 'Who is Wonder Woman with this author' story on a monthly basis.

Both "Wonder Woman" and JMS/Chris Roberson's "Superman" feel like they've been designed to read in trade. I think maybe that's why a lot of fans (aside from the fact that most fans felt the stories sucked lol) were turned off. There is a kind of serial feel to them.

I wish DC would lay off long arcs in monthlies that would be better released in trade outright. That, and get better at releasing trades of their work. I guess they want digital releases as a fix for the situation, though that's pure speculation on my part.

Okay, after having gone through some back issues, I can at least practically guarantee that the new reboot of Supergirl will not suck as much as the last reboot of Supergirl. Holy shit, these are some of the most inept comics ever made. Nothing is ever explained, and when it is, it just makes it worse. Almost nothing ever happens, and it when it does, that just makes it worse.

Then Cancer Boy from Brain Candy shows up, and it's hilarious. I'll at least give credit, as it's the first actual idea that has any meat at all in the entire series, but the execution is feeble. Bear in mind this is, roughly, 540 pages into the series. Also, I think there's one issue with fewer than a hundred words in it.

Incidentally, how much of the crappiness bleeds over in the Threeboot Legion? I'm picking up the rest of those books soon, and want to be prepared.

The best issues of Kara's current on-going is the crossover with Damian. I have a feeling that this new Supergirl is a mesh of both Karen Starr/Power Girl and Kara-Zor-El. I think it's the hair style and the shoulder pads that remind me most of Karen.

I have been made to understand that Sterling Gates actually has some ability. And indeed, there is an extremely granular increase in quality over the course of the series, though, at least the extent to which I've read it. Like, it goes from "very, very bad" to "very bad" to "at least someone was trying."

And since I am nice, I will also say that while the Nightwing and Flamebird story is cryptic, entirely awful, and totally dropped... is possibly the worst thing Greg Rucka (this amazes me) has ever had a hand in... is replete with choice shots from Ed Benes' ass-camera... despite all that, the Ian Churchill (I assume?) designs for the Nightwing and Flamebird armors are really cool. It's like Batman was Bruce Boxleitner instead of Bruce Wayne!

Edit: I remembered the egregious thing I wanted to mention! "For every kill there is a weapon. Diamond dust. Red wavelength UVB lights. And me."

This is a potentially good line that unfortunately 1)reminds you that Cass Cain's character got fucked real, real bad and 2)informs you that Joe Kelly doesn't know what light is.

I skipped the Flamebird and Nightwing stuff. I agree, it's the worst thing Greg Ruka has ever done in comics (which is surprising because he's a bad ass writer).

The thing is, if there's a problem in Kandor, there's always an easy solution: "You do as I say or I play "Ghetto D" with the bass on maximum and prop the bottle next to the woofer." Or, if you're Supergirl or Power Girl, you could probably just yell it at them. A scene where Kara shouts "KICK DOWN DOORS, SHOW MOTHERFUCKERS THAT YOU'RE BOUT IT BOUT IT!" wouldn't be any dumber than anything else that happened, and would actually, sadly, probably be in character, if perhaps slightly dated.

Damn. I'm really dissapointed to hear that the Supergirl series was that bad. I really liked Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and I was really looking forward to reading that arc and then following Kara into her own series.

It looks perfect as a first costume for the character - it looks improvised by someone who's got more important things on his mind and has never seen a "superhero costume."

In fact it's slyly delightful that Supes makes up the same kind of costume that kids do when they decide to play superhero. Let's just be glad he's not rocking a bath towel tied around his neck.

When talking the new costume over with a friend of mine last night, I suddenly realized that was exactly why I didn't like it. With the jeans, work boots, and that short little cape, he looks like a 6-year-old running around his house in a homemade costume. Not exactly the look I want to see for the Man of Steel.

The art is not what I have an issue with here. Supergirl looks gorgeous, Superman looks okay and Superboy looks cartoonish (which seems to be the intention). Scott Lobdell did say at the Superman Panel that this is the same Connor we've known for the last 15 years, then he added a "I guess?"

A part of me wants this relaunch to blow up in their faces now lol.
Despite my reservations about the whole "reboot", I do have to admit the actual artwork itself is very nice. I question some of the design choices, but I do like Superman and Supergirl's new costumes. Superboy I'm "Meh" on.

But isn't that pretty much what he's supposed to be doing at that point? This is supposed to be the very beginning of his superhero career so it makes sense that he'd start out with a cheap costume. Besides I have a feeling that look probably won't last to long once things get going.
The one design I really wasn't that fond of at first was Supergirl's, but that one's been growing on me, so I have feeling by the time the series starts I'll probably love it.

Not saying it didn't make sense, I was saying I didn't like it because it looked like a little kid dressing up as a superhero. I liked the minimal black t-shirt look they gave Superboy a few years back, but this one just doesn't work for me at all.

The best part of reading it is that I will never confuse the names of Joe Kelly and Joe Casey again.
