DC to REBOOT???

I like the art, and the whole approach looks rather like fun.

Of course there is a bit of that "creepy eavesdropping Clark" thing going on, but that wasn't nearly new when Singer did it.

Well, so much for me getting Superman, because that looks horrible. The characterization reminds me too much of the 90's, where the lives of the supporting cast took up a good percentage of the book. I'm not against characterization, but there is a fine line between having a supporting cast that adds to the character and having a supporting cast that adds an element of soap opera. I don't want to pick up a Superman comic to read about Lois dating, nor do I want to read about Clark being a loner.

Though I get wanting to keep in touch with humanity, but, without Lois, why does he bother going home? Why not just be Superman. Of course, that ends up like the past year + of the comic, where we get little Clark and when we do, he's just popping into work to submit a story and then taking off again. It kind of makes Clark Kent pointless.

I like Clark's expression in one of those panels. As much as I dislike the idea the marriage is over (magically without explanation...at least there's no devil involved) this could have potential to be fun.

Remember...Clark's rumored to be hooking up with Wonder Woman...isn't that more of a reason for him to come home? LOL.

Also is it just me or does relaunch Ollie look more like the Justin Hartley version? I've not seen a pic without his mask on but he reminds me of him.

I liked the whole "he's taller than I expected," which is note perfect, and I like the perception of Clark as being a slightly asocial guy who "doesn't let people get close" a lot more than just trying to stuff him back into the "mild-mannered milquetoast" pre-Byrne tin can. For one thing this makes more sense as a facet of who Clark actually might be, as a person, and less about his putting on a Clever Disguise.

I'm a lot more likely to pick up a comic where Lois and Clark have stuff going on, personally and in terms of personality, than one featuring page after page of Supes Hitting Something Real Hard. That got old by the time I hit puberty...which was a long time ago, obviously.

The more I see of the new Superman the more I look forward to it. Can't tell a lot about Justice League, but I'm confident that Green Lantern will continue to be worthwhile.

Sort of odd, how that Superman is suppose to be in the present and Action is the set-up in the past but that reads like Superman has just turned up. I see Lois has gone to work for TV and Morgan Edge - which I suppose is a development (well back to the 1970s). Also interesting how Perry doesn't seem to rate Clark as a reporter.

More importantly, that art is pretty mediocre for a flagship title.

Indeed. I like how he casually gives away the fact he can see through walls and doesn't mind using this ability for no reason at all. "I didn't realize you'd be in bed this early" says he? "While that's actually correct, how the hell did you know that? Why would you assume I was in bed when I'm wearing a dress shirt, a skirt, and a full panoply of makeup?"

So either someone didn't think through the script, or thought it through to the point they wanted to imply Superman watches people having sex. Either is actually pretty great.

Hahhahah - Superstalker returns!

Uh, because her appearance and her manner look very much as if she just came from bed? Sorry, I'd be able to figure that out and no one's ever gonna jump to the conclusion that I can see through walls... or otherwise confuse me with Superman.

Hahhahah - Superstalker returns!

Superman's been spying on Lois and his coworkers using his x-ray vision and "super-hearing" as long as I've been reading the book, which would be...1959?

I don't know about the vision thing, but I'd imagine the hearing would be pretty hard to turn off. Presumably he's learned to focus through it so as not to go nuts.

To be fair, Superman using his x-ray vision and super-hearing all the time doesn't bother me. He knows what you look like without clothes, he knows what you look like without skin. I've never been entirely clear at what level he can consciously control those powers; his vision usually does seem to be within his ability to command, but Kryptonian-style hearing seems to depend on the writer or even the scene, where sometimes its bearers eavesdrop on everything by accident, and sometimes they can turn it off, and sometimes they seem to have to consciously turn it on.

I just read "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow" again. Lana Lang (after bathing in radioactivity) hears Superman confess his love for Lois through a quarter mile of rock, but Supergirl doesn't overhear Superman tell Brainiac that she's dead from ten feet away. Weird.

"Oh pa, young Clark is surely asleep, now slip me the length!"

Goddamn, that's why superhero stories work best for the young and/or very naive.

Although any kid who perused the "X-Ray Specs" ad on the inside back cover of a National Periodicals comic back in the day probably figured out what was up pretty quickly. ;)

I imagine that the whole notion of someone like Superman "learning to use his powers" has as much to do with learning how not to use some of them - like hearing and vision when they would be troublesome - as it does with mastering the proper techique for lifting a skyscraper off its foundation in one piece. I mean, Clark can't go through adolescence with a Super-boner from passing girls in the hallway at school, can he (actually, he probably would. Or "wood")?

Grant Morrison's panel is going on right now. Newsarama has live blogging of it. He just stated that there is a difference between his and Perez's books other than just the timeline being different. He is looking to focus on the more human "farm boy" aspects of Clark Kent while Perez's book will focus on the Kryptonian/alien heritage. He also stated that the first six issues will be in the past and issue seven picks up in the present time.

He also stated that "Multiversity" would becoming "next year" which is what I thought.

If you've not read it, you should seek Larry Niven's essay Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex.

He goes into some of the obvious issues of Superman, his abilities, and the potential downfall involved with his attraction to humans.

ETA: Here it is - http://www.rawbw.com/~svw/superman.html

Maybe I just have a low-brow sense of humor, but i laugh every single time at some of the visual images this essay conjures up.

I dunno, if he can't control it, then every day is a Cronenberg movie. Nothing hotter than a pile of organs wrapped in muscle.

Dan Didio revealed during the Thursday The New 52 panels (there is one per each day at the con) that there are no plans for Wally West in the relaunch. Paul Cornell revealed that Apollo and Midnighter will be joined by their Authority teammates, he said nine characters in total.

Babs is restored as Batgirl "because she's the most recognizable Batgirl".

No plans for Wally?

Perhaps if some of the animated fare had used Cassandra then that statement wouldn't be true. Babs is only "most recognizable" due to her mass media exposure in the role. Certainly not due to her holding of a title with solo adventures. While I'm a Steph fan I realize she only has 25 issues under her belt and no animated exposure in the role. However, Cass had what 70+issues? She easily could've been used in an animated role as Batgirl and should have imo.

For those feeling nostalgic for the prelaunch DCU, IDW and DC are doing a Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes crossover this fall that is, according to press materials, set circa "The Great Darkness Saga," which would even make it pre-Crisis. :)
