DC to REBOOT???

The devil's in the details, as always. Honestly, I'm more surprised about his parents being dead than by any other aspect of the changes.

Everything about the Action Comics premise sounds really good.

Generally speaking, this may be a lot of fun until the next time they change things.

Sounds like a confusing way to start telling stories Action set in the past and Superman in the present. I give Action 6-10 issues before it is brought current with Superman.

Superman's alien origins will be emphasized in a big way, with the character described as "more Kal-El from the planet Krypton than Clark Kent from Kansas."

This is... well, it's potentially interesting, but it misses entirely the point of Superman, and seems to step all over the point of Supergirl.

there's a price to pay for being Superman

What does this mean? Of course there is: being expected to spend your entire waking life saving people. That has to suck.

Isn't that more-or-less the plan? In any event, there's nothing more confusing about it than the old pre-Crisis Superboy.

I like a lot of the concepts. I don't like the "Bruce Springsteen meets Capt. Marvel Jr" costume.

More to the point, however, how many more origin stories do we need? Birthright, Secret Origins, Earth One, etc.....I've seen more supposedly "canonical" origin stories in the past few years than I'd previously seen in my first twenty years of reading comics.

At least one more if Grant Morrison's at the helm.

I remember Morrison saying a few years ago that he'd love to do Superman stories in the vein of the early ones, where he couldn't fly, was slightly more vulnerable, and was more of an activist character.

It sounds like he got his wish.

Funny thing about that, I don't think anyone needed a reboot for that. Grant Morrison can, to a large degree, write his own ticket; if he says, "I want to do an out-of-continuity Superman miniseries about him ignoring the rule of law and beating up lobbyists," I don't see why he would've been refused. It's not like All-Star didn't move the units.

Not really important or directly related, but I was doing an image search for "Lois Lane" and wound up going through various takes on the character. I like the issue where she looked like David Bowie on Diamond Dogs. I did not like the one where Jim Lee draws Jim Lee Woman No. 2 and doesn't have the visual imagination to frame a nude scene in any tasteful fashion but to have her wearing Superman's cape over her naughty bits for no apparent reason except she seems to be aware of the camera. I like both better than the ones where she has red, wavy hair for no obvious reason. But anyway, my question is, does DC even have a model sheet for the Superman family?

From some of the crying around the internets, you'd think that they'd announced a series where they reveal that Superman set up NAMBLA and was injecting crack into the eyeballs of children.

Hell, as Grant Morrison, he could probably just do that in-continuity. It'd be no worse than Grounded, at least.

What, you don't think this is a reasonable outfit to climb a tree and go apple-picking in?

I assume that Metropia ran out of clothing by the time they got to Lois, and she selflessly went without so they would cover up that old lady as much as possible.

Exactly.

How so?

For approximately the first fifty years of his publication history Superman was the "strange visitor from another planet...disguised as Clark Kent."

It wasn't until Byrne got a hold on him that we got this whole "Superman is what he does, Clark is who he is" concept.

I think fans are worried that they're going to concentrate too much on the alien character and ignore all the human aspects of the character in order to increase the drama and angst aspects of the character. I don't really see this happening under Morrison. This approach reminds me of the emotional outcast Bryan Singer attempted to portray in Returns.

:lol:Yeah, he probably could.

Dude, it's fine, Wonder Woman is superhumanly resistant to scrapes...

...oh.

I dunno. Even Silver Age Superman was pretty human, even though Silver Age Clark Kent was pretty lame. I always preferred the idea that Clark was a bit of a dork because Superman's a bit of a dork. And Superman has to be a dork. A weird combination of Jesus-like one-loveness combined with a squareness in mind as well as jaw is vital. Treating him as a strange cosmic deity is interesting (hi, Brian Azzarello) but it probably oughtn't be the dominant portrayal.

And if Clark Kent is just a mask, there ain't a reason in the world for Clark Kent to exist. Superman isn't Batman or Spider-Man. He isn't going to be hunted down by the law and villainy alike, and you can find the Fortress of Solitude on Google Maps. He doesn't need a job; he doesn't need money. And according to Mozzy, Lois Lane only puts out for champions.

The only reason for Clark Kent to even exist is because Superman can't help but be Clark Kent.

It has just the number ones. I'll be passing on that in favor of the indivual hardcovers or TPB's for the books that I'll be following. To be fair though the price kind of put me off lol.
