DC to REBOOT???

I am quite sure the marriage has been removed. The younger digital download demographic certainly doesnt want to read about an old married guy.

I can't say I particularly care either way - I'm more interested in how they redefine the dynamic of the Daily Planet - it was twenty years out of date fifteen years ago. If you are telling stories about a young Superman, then he's more than likely someone who got into the news business maybe five years ago, maybe even less, that should be reflected. I suspect Morrison has some thoughts on that.

So the digital downloading demographic is as full of emotional retards as normal comic book fans? Neat.

I'm really curious as to what storytelling potential they think they were wasting by having them married. Superman fucking Wonder Woman? That isn't even a story really, it's a premise for a cosplay porno.

At least with Spider-Man, you can sort of see how being a swinging bachelor loser could play out. Seeing Peter Parker neg chicks to knock down their bitch shields isn't my cup of tea, but I can see how it might have comedic value when the time cut jumps to him jerking off in Aunt May's basement. But what, is Clark Kent going to go out on dates? Is that not the lamest thing you can possibly imagine?

Yeah, the Daily Planet and in fact the whole way in which Kent and Lane actually pursue their careers is fairly out-of-touch.

You know the paper just about has to go online.

That said, movie art directors love to design this set, I think partly because so many of them were impressed by All The President's Men way back when.

No, just young people.

Even young people are probably aware that the possibility for interesting things to occur is not immediately foreclosed when someone gets married, and for a character like Superman I can't think of a single interesting thing about him being single.

Like, if he wanted to keep getting awkward handjobs from Lana Lang, dude would've stayed in Kansas.

The more important thing is that Superman (various portrayals of Kent as Superboy notwithstanding) is never going to be your age, no matter how old you are. It's not in the character's nature. He's always gonna be your dad. And ideally your dad can maintain a stable romantic relationship.

(Batman is, of course, your creepy uncle.)

Now, this is totally valid.

I think he should work for the National Enquirer:

"Bruce Wayne in gay scandal!"
In John Cleese and John Byrne's Superman: True Brit, Colin Clark (a Kal-El that landed in England instead of Kansas) goes to work for the British tabloid press with amusing results.

Does this mean that Superman Secret Origin, which only came out a year ago, has already been ret-conned? Boy, that was faster than Birthright!

The problem with updating the Daily Planet/ work environment is one of interaction. To be true, in this modern age it would be more likely that Clark would work out of his home posting articles to a website. But then what good is that story telling wise? He would most likely never even meet Lois in this case, never mind Jimmy or Perry. I think the best compromise might be to shrink the Daily Planet down from a monolithic news paper office to more of a small office based news reporting sight. Maybe have just "The Chief", and a hand full of reporters/ photographers that maintain an online news source aimed at websurfers and the growing number of tablet users.

Or better yet, make the Daily Planet DC's version of Yahoo/Google. a massive company with a huge web presence. This way you can still explain away the huge office building with the globe on top. Instead of "google it" in the DC universe they might use "search the planet" or some such. Yeah, that could be cool.

I'm with Myasischev here, the idea that they need to break up the Superman/Lois Lane marriage becuase "young people won't like it" is headbangingly stupid. This isn't "One More Day" level which was just a big "FUCK YOU!" to the Spidey/MJ marrigae, but it's still obnoxious. What are they gonna do, show the entire relationship progress from meeting to from dating to... awkwardly dating for years (because we wouldn't want them to get married... noooo that would be terrible)?

Have Lois work for the DCU TMZ-equivalent. She really wants to do hard news, but can't thanks to traditional media cut backs. She becomes intrigued by a guy who seems to have an amazing knack for submitting super videos...

Or have her host a reality show (see: Julie Chen). Things look grim career-wise until they get a super new contestant...

Granted, those are super lame (and option one is a complete Peter Parker ripoff) but it would be refreshing to see the setting get a ground-up rethink. Hell, when Superman was new, car radios were a hot new tech toy.
