DC to REBOOT???

Interesting,

This September, New York Times bestselling writer Grant Morrison (ALL-STAR SUPERMAN) joins with sensational artist Rags Morales to bring you tales of The Man of Tomorrow unlike any you’ve ever read before in ACTION COMICS #1. This momentous first issue will set in motion the history of the DC Universe as Superman defends a world that doesn’t trust their first Super Hero.

So I guess the JSA don't exist?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*sigh*

I love the JSA. Oh, well.

Superman is really the only one that stands out as a bad design. Replacing the simple shapes of the classic boots with generic 90s JIMLEE! roboboots just doesn't work for such a 'primitive' design. The trunks can be lost in a lot of ways, but not giving him something else to round out the design is weak tea. The yellow also needs to be echoed somewhere else, either in a thicker belt or in a rim on the cape or something like that.

If Perez can't make it work, it doesn't work. (Though this is -far- from his best work)

Yeah I was really warming up to the new costume after seeing Jim Lee's awesome artwork (and when the belt still appeared to be yellow), but now that I'm seeing a red belt and those hideous boots... ugh.

I mean, really, how the hell is that supposed to be modern?? Looks more like something that was designed in the 80s or early 90s.
So, something designed by Jim Lee, then?

I find it interesting that Superman has three different looks in this relaunch. Supergirl not having an affection for humans is interesting. Superboy still has human DNA...still Lex's? Here is what I will be picking up/following:

-Action Comics #1 - Grant Morrison and Rags Morales
-Aquaman #1- Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis
-Batgirl #1- Gail Simone, Adrian Syaf, and Vincente Cifuentes
-Batman #1- Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
-Batman and Robin #1- Peter Tomasai and Patrick Gleason
-Batwoman #1- J.H. Williams III, Hayden Blackburn, and Amy Reeder
-Catwoman #1- Judd Winick and Guillem Marh
-Detective Comics #1 Tony Daniel
-Green Lantern #1-Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke
-Justice League #1- Geoff Johns and Jim Lee
-Justice League Dark #1 - Peter Milligan and Fernando Parsarin
-Legion Lost #1 – Fabien Nicieza and Pete Woods
-Legion of Super-Heroes #1 – Paul Levitz and Francis Portel
-Nightwing #1 – Kyle Higgins and Eddy Barrows
-Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 – Scott Lobdell and Kenneth Rocafort
-Stormwatch #1 – Paul Cornell and Miguel Sepulveda
-Superboy #1 – Scott Lobdell, R.B. Silva and Rob Lean
-Supergirl #1 – Michael Green, Mike Johnson and Mahmud Asrar
-Superman: The Man of Tomorrow #1 – George Perez and Jesus Morino
-Teen Titans #1 – Scott Lobdell, Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund
-Wonder Woman #1 – Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang

Not part of the relaunch:

-Batman Beyond #1
-Superman Beyond#1
-Batman, Inc #1 (when it returns next year)

We don't know yet what the new timeline originates from. Just that Flashpoint is the divergent point or at least the trigger. I guess this means no Paul Cornell on Captain Marvel and no Shazam book in general unless they're waiting for a second wave as was suggested earlier.

sn't this new timeline solely the result of time travel? So therefore the alternate earths still exist.

Which is an in-universe construct, I just can't see it from a business perceptive while they try move away from the old comics and characters with the specific aim of making things simpler for new readers.

I'm kind of hoping to see the return of the multiple earths and multiple imprints.

the JSA in AA Comics ( All-American Publications ) Which was the name of the company that first produced them ( and the GA FLash and Green Lantern)

The Marvel Family in Fawcett Comics, Maybe the change to Captain Thunder will happen.

The "Action Heroes" in Charlton Comics.

The Freedom Fighters in Quality Comics

No idea if DC can use the Quality, Fawcett or Charlton names. And of course they are using some characters from those "Universes" in the DCU, but that was never a problem preCrisis.

Out of these 52 titles, I have broken them into 3 (well 4) categories: The ones I will definitely get, the ones I'm most likely to pick-up, and the ones I will wait to see what others think before I get them (the fourth category are the books I have little to no interest in currently).

The titles I definitely will get:
  • Action Comics #1 – Grant Morrison and Rags Morales
  • Batman #1 – Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
  • Batwoman #1 – JH Williams III, Haden Blackman and Amy Reeder
  • The Flash #1 – Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato
  • The Fury of Firestorm #1 – Ethan Van Sciver, Gail Simone and Yildiray Cinar
  • Green Lantern #1 – Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke
  • Green Lantern Corps #1 – Peter J. Tomasi and Fernando Pasarin
  • Justice League #1 – Geoff Johns and Jim Lee

These are the titles I most likely will try:
  • Aquaman #1 – Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis
  • Blue Beetle #1 – Tony Bedard and Ig Guera.
  • Green Lantern: The New Guardians #1 – Tony Bedard and Tyler Kirkham
  • Legion Lost #1 – Fabien Nicieza and Pete Woods
  • Resurrection Man #1 – Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and Fernando Dagnino
  • Stormwatch #1 – Paul Cornell and Miguel Sepulveda
  • Swamp Thing #1 – Scott Snyder and Yannick Paquette

And these I will wait to see reviews/scans/etc.:
  • Batgirl #1 – Gail Simone, Ardian Syaf and Vicente Cifuentes
  • Batman and Robin #1 – Peter J. Tomasi and Pat Gleason
  • Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE #1 – Jeff Lemire and Alberto Ponticelli
  • Green Arrow #1 – JT Krul and Dan Jurgens
  • Green Lantern: Red Lanterns #1 – Peter Milligan and Ed Benes
  • Legion of Super-Heroes #1 – Paul Levitz and Francis Portela
  • Mister Terrific #1 – Eric Wallace and Roger Robinson
  • Static Shock #1 – John Rozum and Scott McDaniel
  • Superman: The Man of Tomorrow #1 – George Perez and Jesus Morino

I figured I currently get 11 DC books and in June, I will buy another 7 books that are either one-shots or mini-series (that number changes each month, though). So, my September purchases will be roughly what my June ones are if I get the books I know I definitely am going to pick up and the ones I'm pretty sure I will get. So, the ones on my "Eh, possibly" list will either be because I heard they are awesome or because I drop one of the titles on the first two lists.

I'm planning on checking out:
Batman
Batgirl
Batman and Robin
Birds of Prey
Catwoman
Nightwing
Detective Comics
Red Hood and the Outlaws
The Flash
Aquaman
Green Lantern
Green Lantern Corps
Wonder Woman
Action Comics
Superman
Supergirl
Green Arrow
Justice League
Then if I like these I might check out other stuff that gets good reviews here and on other sites.

I'm kind of hoping to see the return of the multiple earths and multiple imprints.

To be honest I never cared for the multiple earth idea. The planet was already ridiculously overcrowded with superheroes and supervillains to begin with, I thought.

Having multiple, alternate versions of characters constantly crossing over from OTHER worlds just made it even worse.

This doesn't sound terrible exciting to me... aside from the Super-Bat-GL titles, there's no much aside from JLA and maybe Aquaman.

Not on the new DCU Earth. Perhaps they get to go to Earth-2.

As stated before in the thread I'm sure the JSA are back to being World War II heroes and not active in the current timeline in the relaunch. No Power Girl I noticed. I'm assuming that DC has decided to combine Karen Starr and Kara Zor-El. Her hair design kind of reminds me of Karen.

^ Can't be WW2 heroes if Supes is the first.

Lack of JSA/erasing their history makes this a no-sale for me.

Time to go back to the elegant solution of multiple earths. Bring back the real Earth 1, Earth 2, Earth S etc., and start fresh with Earth... I dunno, maybe 616. Maybe now and then a 60 year old Clark Kent, ace TV newsman, can cross over from Earth 1. Maybe a few last hurrahs from the JSA over on Earth 2 before they really are just too old.
Why anyone ever thought this was complicated is beyond me.

Xombi is another current title missing from the re-launch. I missed that one when I listed the titles earlier.

In fairness, DC did say they are only relaunching their superhero titles. For example, Hellblazer isn't getting canceled nor renumbered (as far as I know).

Yes, having multiple versions of of the same character appearing on different, yet similar alternate realities having their own adventures side-by side with each other (or making contrived reasons to pop over to different realities) is much less confusing than having one, mainstream continuity.

The best creative revamp DC ever had was to ditch the pre-crisis multiverse.

Besides, weren't you the one who told us to "get over it" in regards to this reboot earlier in this thread (when no one was actually complaining about it)? Yet you clearly haven't gotten over the Crisis reboot and complain any chance you get.

^ More than likely. I also wonder if people are taking the term "first superhero" in the Action Comics write up too literally. Superman is the first superhero as published (and to the readers), but not to the fictional world of DCnU.
