DC to REBOOT???

Status
Not open for further replies.
Superman is really the only one that stands out as a bad design. Replacing the simple shapes of the classic boots with generic 90s JIMLEE! roboboots just doesn't work for such a 'primitive' design. The trunks can be lost in a lot of ways, but not giving him something else to round out the design is weak tea. The yellow also needs to be echoed somewhere else, either in a thicker belt or in a rim on the cape or something like that.

If Perez can't make it work, it doesn't work. (Though this is -far- from his best work)

Something just occurred to me. If the DCU is being rebooted.... does this mean the return of Darkseid and the New Gods?

^ I'm all for that. New Suicide Squad coming. Perhaps one of my favorite titles of all time and hoping it can recapture the magic. I doubt it, but will check it out.

Not missing the yellow on Supes' costume one bit. The boots are arguable, and if they don't work doubtless will be streamlined some over time.

Once they start changing things, the taboo collapses. Batman has had so many different outfits since Frank Miller started in on him that it's not funny. From here on out the same will likely be true of Superman - the cape and the shield are all that really matter.

And yet it would be pretty cool to see Bendix use a Frenchman on vacation to invoke Code Perfect and have Jenny Sparks execute the Joker U.S. prison-style. Because that is what logically would happen, and what totally will never happen.

That's the whole problem - it's like doing a Nightmare on Elm Street movie as a pg, where Freddie has giant tickle fingers - what's the point?

The rationale behind the Midnighter, Apollo et al. was to give us analogues of Superman, Batman etc who could appear in stories that went beyond what could be done within those character. If you stick them in the same Universe as the characters they are knock-offs of and they are subject to all the same limits, what on earth is the point?

I think the Authority was always a concept that was finite - because they either changed the world or they looked like Idiots. Once they did actually change the world, they was nothing really interesting to say with them.

Talking about killing the Joker, did you ever read the Daniel Way Nighthawk series, which ended with the Joker rip-off saying "Well I'm ready to go back to my Cell now!" and Nighthawk beating him to death instead.

There are a lot of bad redesigns. Superman is the least of them. Really don't have a problem with his costume. We should get more confirmation for the Superman family books and maybe Rags Morales Action Comics#1 art work.

Bleeding Cool reports that Warners is going to launch a major TV advertising campaign for the DC relaunch.

TV advertising for comics, that's a first in my 25yrs of reading. I assume the push will emphasis the digital download over the print book but hopefully will mention both.

Re: Zatanna
I bought the first 12 issues and while the shifting art team didn't bother me it could've been more consistent. My reason for dropping it was I felt the story arcs were being drawn out and that last one with the puppet guy was the proverbial straw.

This is all going to go in conjunction with the DC Nation series and programming block on Cartoon Network this fall. They're supposed to have that 30 minute DC Nation show once a week that does nothing but talk about recent news in DC movies, games, cartoons and comics.

Yeah I was really warming up to the new costume after seeing Jim Lee's awesome artwork (and when the belt still appeared to be yellow), but now that I'm seeing a red belt and those hideous boots... ugh.

I mean, really, how the hell is that supposed to be modern?? Looks more like something that was designed in the 80s or early 90s.

Here are DC's full descriptions of Action Comics #1, Superman: The Man of Tomorrow #1, Superboy #1 and Supergirl #1. The poster who predicted earlier that George Perez would be writing but not illustrating his Superman title turned out to be absolutely correct.

Interesting,

This September, New York Times bestselling writer Grant Morrison (ALL-STAR SUPERMAN) joins with sensational artist Rags Morales to bring you tales of The Man of Tomorrow unlike any you’ve ever read before in ACTION COMICS #1. I wonder if we're back to the JSA existing on a different Earth...

Blackhawks #1 – Mike Costa and Ken Lashley - At least somebody at the big 2 decided to give Costa a shot. His work on GI Joe Cobra is fantastic.

Green Lantern: Red Lanterns #1 – Peter Milligan and Ed Benes
Justice League Dark #1 – Peter Milligan and Mikel Janin

The magic, supernatural and horror corner of DC stand to benefit the most from the reboot, they seem to get the best talent from DC.

I'll be amazed if there are specific alternative earths going forward as that seems to go against the broad direction of this revamp.

Justice League Dark #1 – Peter Milligan and Mikel Janin
