DC to REBOOT???

The Batgirl cover looks cool.

Who's Batgirl? Besides Yvonne Craig, I mean? ;)

I believe Gail Simone has just confirmed that it's Barbara Gordon in the cape. Link

Edit:Oops. Simultapost.

I'll pick up the book for sure, but I'm afraid my love for Babs and Gail Simone's love for her are not the same. (Ironically, a lot of what I love about Babs comes from Simone's first run on Birds.)

In the linked post, Gail says she loved Babs!Batgirl kicking ass and that "for a long time, there was simply nothing else like her in comics". I don't think that's true anymore though. In the years that Barbara's been out of the cowl, we've got lots more characters filling a similar role - Steph, Cass, Cassandra, Kara, and that's just among the big names. Hot geeky women who can knock out the internet while eating bad take-away food, on the other hand, are harder to come by.

Hmm, I'm afraid I don't recognize the other three ladies on that BOP cover that aren't Black Canary, and where is Huntress?

Also, am I the only one that prefers the gray bodysuit from early JSA to the fishnets on Canary?

Is it just me or does the Nightwing costume on that cover remind anyone of the "Batman Beyond" Batman suit?

Speaking of which, has there been any word on whether Batman Beyond will be continuing?

Someone on Bleeding Cool suggested that it's actually Stephanie with a red wig, to further disguise her identity.

And she's also taken the name "Barbara Gordon." Deep cover protection, that. :p

Seriously, while it never made a grade deal of sense that Gordon or anyone would stay a paraplegic in the DC universe with its living computers, genetically engineered superthings, and cybernetic organisms, it was nice to have a physically disabled hero who was actually physically disabled, versus someone who is "physically disabled" because they have a robot arm from thirty years from now.

Not that I have any horse in the race. Batgirl and Oracle were both equally boring to me, and the "Shut down the Internet!" portrayal of Oracle was beyond ignorant.

On the plus side, J.H. Williams the Third! Batwoman! Twenty years in the making! So there are at least two comics I'm buying.

It's more like the last Nightwing suit, but colored red instead of blue.

The thing that's throwing me...

Some things about the Bat-books sound like their a continuation of, roughly, where we are today. The IGN article mentions that Dick was Batman, for instance. Batman and Robin is supposed to show Bruce and Damian working together, which they haven't done before (outside of Batman: The Return).

But then other things, like Batgirl, aren't any sort of conceivable continuation of where we are.

It's going to be... interesting.

I reckon that's Poison Ivy at the back, and Katana up front. No clue on the woman in the bustier though.

No indication yet of Helena's ongoing existence in the new world order. I suspect Zinda Blake is even less likely to survive, but we'll see.

Also, am I the only one that prefers the gray bodysuit from early JSA to the fishnets on Canary?

Even the sweatband? :D

Edit: Thinking of the wrong costume. I quite like the leotard/fishnets/bolero look. Not with the heels though.

If the Steph Batgirl book ends because of this reboot thing I shall be mightily annoyed.

I know I'm the only one who thought her 80s costume was cool. The headband and the feathered Warrant hair can get lost, of course, but I liked it.

I just looked at the BoP cover and--oh, God, that costume is hideous. Three-quarters of those costumes are hideous, although I guess Sleeves looks all right. Is Canary even wearing shoes?

And why does Katana have a Japanese flag on her head? By that logic, Batman should wear a star-spangled cowl. This is why Dr. Light is the best Japanese hero.

It's a foregone conclusion, I'm afraid. Batgirl's getting a relaunch, and it's Barbara Gordon's title. Which is sad, because IMO Batgirl is one of DC's best books at the moment.

Whether Steph (or Cass) will have some part to play in the story or have been wiped out of continuity entirely is still an open question.
