DC to REBOOT???

And perhaps "spoilers" was a poor example. I guess a better one would be if a news site somehow got the sales figures of Pocket Book's Star Trek novels and reported them even though Pocket keeps those numbers very private and don't want them out.

What would be wrong with that?

Nothing. But it is still makes it a dick move given the company's policy.

If news reporting becomes a matter of complying with 'the company's policy', then everyone might as well pack up and go home!

Hopefully a DC reboot will remove the 1 million superheroes that no-one gives any kind of shit about and just gives us the 10 or so that people do.

I've a feeling that'd very quickly reduce the fanbase to a couple of dozen blokes going to war over whether Hal Jordan should be drawn with bigger biceps than Barry Allen. *shudder*

Those sales numbers are considered confidential information, I don't know why exactly, but that's what we've been told numerous times over in the Trek Lit forum.

Personally, I'm with the people who think reporting this early was a crap move, but more from a personal perspective. When it comes to stuff like this I really think the people who are doing it have the right to decide how and when the news comes out. I guess I just see it as really rude to go and ruin all of the plans that had been made just so you can get a big story on your site. It's DC's reboot, so you should let DC decide when people will find out about it.
Here's a demonstration of the Comixology app on an iPad.
I use it on the PC Laptop and it works pretty much the same way. I lovedit, and at this point I plan on doing as much of my comic book reading through Comixology as I can. They've even added a couple Marvel issues in the past week or two, so hopefully I'll be able to read their stuff there too.

Which wasn't my point at all, but that's okay.

This kinda sums up my thoughts on the matter more cohesively than anyway I can currently express it. :)

Exactly so.

There's not a thing wrong with this kind of reporting - it's what those folks are in business to do.

Again, I never once said they were wrong. In journalism, you occasionally make dick moves for the sake of reporting a story. This is one of them.

Reporting about major business changes is not a 'dick move' in any sense - it's normal standard journalism.

There may actually be room to interpret this as Industrial Espionage.

How did they come across the information to post?

Has it interferred with their Marketing Plans?

Now, sure, if there's a criminal action being reported, all bets are off, no problem, but, if they're reporting Confidential information, that can be proven to cause a Business Interuption

Exactly so. Reporting on stuff that someone wants to keep quiet? Horrors, how dickish!

And here's the BleedingCool report on the new Firestorm - with nice picture! - based on Simone's Tweets:

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/06/02/dc-relaunch-the-look-of-firestorm/

Simone says:

All I’m going to say is, honest to god, this is one of the most amazing books I’ve ever worked on in any capacity. You guys are going to hear a lot of hype in the coming days, I know, and I’m sorry to add to that, but…this book is INSANE. The art for Fury of Firestorm is by Yildiray Cinar, @ycinar here on Twitter. And he is demolishing it. He is KILLING on it. I can’t say any more. But as Ethan was one of the great minds behind some of the biggest monster hits in comics…YOU WANT THIS BOOK. I am sorry for blurting this stuff out, but we haven’t been able to say a word, as page after page of beautiful art came in. That’s all I can say. Forget anything you ever thought about Firestorm being a b-list character. You will not believe this thing.

Oh god, get a grip - Rich lives in the UK, best of luck getting that one to stick. What has happened to this board? Every thread seems to turn into "Internet Lawyer for hire".

How did they come across the information to post?

This is really easy to solve, creators tell him - that's what has always happened.

That was a really extreme reaction, apparently it's not appropriate for a person ignorant of the industry to ask questions to reduce their ignorance

Feel better now, do you?

The second reply you have a point about but the first was just silly, there is no way around that.

Johnston is free and clear. He's been at this a long time. On the other hand, any creators who leaked it despite signing confidentiality agreements could be in trouble if DC finds out it was them. But it's more likely that nothing will come of it.

Dan Jurgens took over JLA from Giffen & DeMatteis and it was a fucking train wreck. So they give him another turn to run it into the ground?

It would seem the reboot order came from on high from the bosses of Dan Didio/Jim Lee/Geoff Johns. Everyone is being forced to wrap up their stories. Even Morrison is being forced to wrap things up on his Batman run. Jurgens probably got the JLI gig because everybody else jumped ship.

I just don't see the sense in starting a title that's doomed to fail.

If that's true, the lends even more credence--if there was any doubt--this is a reboot.

I have to say... the hype is getting to me. My curiosity might get the better of me. But, I doubt it. But it's fun to hear what's going on.
