DC to REBOOT???

Here's a demonstration of the Comixology app on an iPad.

That is actually pretty cool. :bolian:

Cool. Looks like the Marvel app is comparable.

The Marvel digital back issues offer pretty nice resolution and clarity. Certainly much clearer than many of my yellowed faded back issues.

Here's the whole page view. It's about the size of a physical comic when displayed full screen on a 23" monitor:

Here's a zoomed in section:

The only thing I miss is the ads and the letters pages.

I've a feeling that'd very quickly reduce the fanbase to a couple of dozen blokes going to war over whether Hal Jordan should be drawn with bigger biceps than Barry Allen. *shudder*

Indeed.

Personally, I'm with the people who think reporting this early was a crap move, but more from a personal perspective. When it comes to stuff like this I really think the people who are doing it have the right to decide how and when the news comes out. I guess I just see it as really rude to go and ruin all of the plans that had been made just so you can get a big story on your site. It's DC's reboot, so you should let DC decide when people will find out about it.

:techman:

Exactly so. Reporting on stuff that someone wants to keep quiet? Horrors, how dickish!

Well that would depend on what it is that somebody wants to keep quiet, wouldn't it? Certainly there's some things that people should be allowed to keep secret - especially only for a time.

It would seem the reboot order came from on high from the bosses of Dan Didio/Jim Lee/Geoff Johns. Everyone is being forced to wrap up their stories. Even Morrison is being forced to wrap things up on his Batman run. Jurgens probably got the JLI gig because everybody else jumped ship.

Batman Inc ends at #10

BATMAN INCORPORATED #10
Written by GRANT MORRISON
Art and cover by CHRIS BURNHAM
1:25 Variant cover by FRAZER IRVING
In “LEVIATHAN STRIKES,” Batman realizes to his horror that he’s been outwitted as the true identity of Leviathan continues to elude him. Is his deadly adversary an old foe with a grudge to settle, a new face of evil or something completely different? One thing is for sure: The surprise ending will not soon be forgotten!
On sale AUGUST 17 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

I'd imagine that refers to the end of the issue, not necessarily the end of the storyline. I would be very, very surprised if they forced Morrison to end his ongoing Batman saga.

Making that vague general assertion is quite a ways from making a persuasive case that this kind of thing qualifies at all.

And DC have just dropped the other foot on the Direct Market - digital comics will be $1 cheaper four weeks after their release. So if it's $2.99, it will be $1.99 and so on.

That's within the range I figured, albeit at the upper end of the range. Digital comics have to be no more than $1.99 for the economic model to work. I actually thought they'd be $1.99 on the same day release. They're throwing the direct market a (tiny) olive branch through the one-week delay.

Edit to add: if it's a month rather than a week then that's a rather significant concession to the direct market, a greater one than I expected.

Also, on the issue of Green Lantern's missing power ring in the Justice League cover: Jim Lee included it in his pencils and the inker missed it and left it out.

It also appears that Morrison will only be on the new Superman ongoing and not continuing on Batman afterwards. This kind of sucks. I will check these out still though.

That's kind of surprising.

Reporting about major business changes is not a 'dick move' in any sense - it's normal standard journalism.

Perhaps I am not being clear, but again, you completely missed my point behind my comment.

JD summed it up nicely:

There was a message from DC a day or so ago saying that the initial report wasn't the whole story.

No I got it, I simply think you are complete wrong and so is JD.

You wouldn't be irritated and/or upset if you were working on something and were keeping it quiet until a certain time only to have a third party reveal it earlier than you wanted/intended?

It's only a crap move in the respect that they failed to keep the reveal a secret.

As for that last round of cover images, Firestorm makes me think of the wondertwins for some reason. Captain Atom sounds like they are doing a riff on Dr. Solar, and I think that's Donna Troy on the JLI cover.

Yes of course I would - but so what? It's a red herring.

Some of you guys I think are missing the point about Bleeding Cool. The point of why it was a 'dick" move is as mentioned prior in the thread it seems Rich has some kind of agenda/hatred against the company. Not only did he want to scoop the story (which is fine) but he used this as a way to say fuck you to the company and the LA Times Hero Complex Festival of which this was going to be the centerpiece. Geoff Boucher is a rival news blog I'm assuming so he was totally screwing him over. I understand the business side of his decision to do this but he still screwed over a lot of people and forced DC and other comic news sites to cover this a week early.
