DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

Granted, but they're part and parcel of the same Bizarro-world portrayal of Pa Kent as someone whose example Clark needs to reject to become Superman rather than to be guided by. And if the topic is what part of Jonathan's portrayal alienated audiences the most, I'd vote for his death scene over the school bus conversation, because the death scene is the culmination of the thread and is just so damn stupid. That's why I thought it was what you were referring to.

Although another part that annoyed me was the bit in Batman v Superman where Clark said that being Superman was how he lived up to his father's dream, which is the opposite of what actually happened in MoS.

I agree about his death scene--it was an incredibly ill conceived idea and played out idiotically. Up until that point, I was enjoying the take on Costner's character. I even thought the conversation after the school bus was well done. At that point there was still a lot of movie left and I expected the Kent's to come around and realize that Clark had a larger role to play in the world.

Warner Bros. Discovery is expected to split into two companies in mid-2026. Warner Bros. and Discovery, with Zaslav to head the movie and streaming division and Gunner Wiedenfels to handle the traditional television side.

Costner's Kent warned his son because he understood the nature of human beings to fear, resent or attack anyone who is unlike themselves. That very human point was as clear as day in the film, and to certain audiences who realized the obvious parallel made in raising one who will be seen as the other, and may not be accepted no matter what actions one takes for the benefit of anyone else. Again, certain audiences--either from personal experience or had no issues perceiving the potential for negative-to-hostile treatment to said other got the point . The very reason Man of Steel gave the most sensible, realistic reaction from Clark's father ever put on screen. No parent...no real parent decides to make his or her kid a child soldier from the crib, tossed out into a world that may work to destroy them.
