^ They may be caricatures, but they were memorable and well-defined compared to most tv characters from that era. And they were way more fun than most of the dull crew from TNG (with the exceptions of Picard, Worf and Data).

He's still represenative of that archtype. And most of his memorable moments involve either his conflicting "halves" or playing up his differences.^ At first, maybe. But between the writers and Nimoy, he was given plenty of nuance, backstory and character.
There's a reason why he turns up in lists of Greatest TV Characters of All Time and Tonto etc don't.

And yeah, Gilligan's Island is a good example of a show that's as clearly remembered by as many people and for every one of its characters...even the Professor.![]()
