David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Have seen the trailer about a half a dozen times now and am really impressed by it. I think this is going to be a beautifully dark film and extremely faithful to the novels. Rooney Mara will be praised as much as Noomi Raplace was for her role as Lisbeth. I am also highly anticipating Trent Reznor's score.

Ha! I was just thinking about this thread, and wondering if anyone had put up a link to the new trailer.

I like the way the new trailer looks. The situations and plot points are familiar to me, from the Swedish movie, but it's looking more and more like a fresh take on the same material.

I have a good feeling about this. I think it's going to be a good movie.

new trailer looks great. i'm with Admiral Young, can't wait for the score.

Finally got around to seeing the third Swedish movie, and contrary to some of the critics, thought it was a terrific conclusion to the series.

I'm a big fan of Fincher's work, but I gotta say, I'm SO satisfied with the Swedish telling of it that I don't have much interest in seeing anyone else's. Fincher's version might be a bit more polished or arty, but there's still only so many ways you can tell the same story (and judging from the trailers, it doesn't vary that much).

^ I had this exact same feeling when the movie was first announced but quickly have changed my mind since seeing the trailers.

I'm sorta in the same boat. I'm curious though, so I'll still see Fincher's, but I'll be comparing the entire time.

For anyone interested the score became available for purchase on iTunes yesterday...it's worth checking out :) I think Reznor is gonna get the Oscar.

It was a pretty annoying download, too. I had it preordered and consistently an "error 5002" when I tried downloading it. Finally managed to download it without issue around 10pm or so.

I still haven't seen the remake of Let the Right One In because of that.

That's actually why I'm so hesitant to see the Fincher remake so soon. As beautifully and stylishly made as the Let the Right One In remake was... the story was already so damn familiar that there was just nothing surprising about it anymore.

It just became a technical exercise of seeing if I could spot the differences.

I seriously don't see any reason to watch this. The original films are perfect, I don't see the need for a remake a) so soon and b) done like this.

Done like what? Haven't you already posted in the thread that you weren't interested in this? I seem to recall an earlier debate between us.

^ that is encouraging. i've been listening to the score off and on the past few days. pretty great stuff IMO.

Just saw it last night at a SAG screening. It's good. Maybe not great, but good. The performances are solid--though why is everyone doing a Swedish accent but Daniel Craig?

My only criticism would be: it's not VERY scary. There's not a LOT of tension. The ad campaign made it feel like this was going to be one scary tension filled movie. And it's not. The title credits--which are pretty awesome--set a very strong tone, that the movie doesn't live up to. So, in an odd but of complaint, the ads describe a movie that isn't there.

It's very similar to the Swedish movie--not that that is a bad thing--but, it doesn't push beyond it either.

It's a well made movie, but, I think I expected more from Fincher. Panic Room and Fight Club were great experiences. This... was good.

I just got back from it.

It's well made, but it does suffer a bit from the fact that I've already seen it. Granted, this is not the film's fault. It's just that it doesn't stray too far from the original, and doesn't really bring a whole lot new to the table. The story is practically beat for beat the same, though oddly enough I think I found it a little more difficult to follow than the original. Crazy seeing as this one is in my native language, and the original I watched with subtitles. Also, there's an extended coda to this one that really does just go on for far too long.

Then again, if you haven't seen the Swedish original, then you can consider this a high recommendation, as everything will be much fresher for you. The movie is well acted, well directed, and has all the elements of a winning film, it just doesn't really do much of anything different with the material to really justify itself to me.
