David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

I would like to see Blomkvist's family mentioned in this film which I don't think was brought up in the original film. Daniel Alfredson seemed more interested in ignoring his past and his womanizing for the most part, which the book plays up quite a bit. In fact I read the novel after watching the film and was shocked how much of his character and backstory was left out of the film. It seemed the film was going for an "idealized" version of the character as much as possible.

i'd also like to see Blomkvist's family in this new film. and him being a man whore added another layer of danger and mistrust in the first book IMO.

^ Exactly. I loved the scene in the novel where his daughter comes and visits him in his little house on the Vangier estate. That was a big WTF moment for me. He has a daughter?

Two-parter? You mean trilogy right? No I don't think they will include any of what I said I hoped would be in the film.

TBH, there's good reason for changing the endings of remakes and adaptations - *if* you can think of a good ending. Specifically: the fans of the original already know the ending. You need to think up something that will surprise them too, so they get the same kick as the rest of the audience.

It's a fine balance to walk, to try and be sufficiently faithful to the original to please the fans, but also to be sufficiently different to surprise them.

In this specific case, I suspect the similarity to a key scene in a certain other Craig movie is another solid reason for changing...

Well, as far as this part of the audience is concerned, I want the movie to be as faithful as possible. Changing the climax isn't faithful.

How about letting Sauron win in Lord of the Rings?

Like I say, it's a fine line - so, for example, you might want to have the same person who did it, but they did it in a different way, or it's revealed in a different way.

That film in question is a prime example of why I don't like changing the endings of adapted stories. In that case, the story went from a depressing, but with a sense wonder ending to a cheesy, good-feel ending with no real resolution.

As I said before, I haven't read the books or seen the original trilogy (yet), so I can't really judge who this will play, but I honestly can't think of a case where I liked an ending being changed.

^^ I would agree with you on the third novel, but the first two, I found to be excellent reads.. I have an idea that after Larsson died, editors came in and made a mess of it, trying to tie things together.. As a result, the third was at times compelling, and at others, plodding and hard to get through..

I loved all the movies and had no issues with the ending of the first.. I'm interested to see extended cuts of the films, as I didn't know they existed either..

A report from cnn.com is speculating that the leaked trailer may be viral marketing.

Duh.

What's hilarious, is that now Sony is taking them off the internet due to copyright claims. A week later. Yeah...because studio lawyers have always been known to be so slow with these things.

Edit: Here's a green band version of the trailer that seems "legit," as in it doesn't seem amateurishly cammed at the very beginning, and then gets solid and pro like once the trailer actually starts with a clear improvement in visual quality. :guffaw:
