David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Just saw what i'm assuming to be the UK/Europe poster. No way this "not quite safe for work" poster would fly in American theatres (cue obligatory whinging about how Americans are too uptight about sexuality :p)...

Girl with the Dragon Tatoo poster/story

Frankly, while it's very "titilating," I really don't like it.. One of the commenters says that it doesn't capture the spirit of the characters at all, having Lisbeth exposed and Blomqvist in a dominating position and I agree.. While Lisbeth certainly has a unique individual style and doesn't care what you think about it, she's no exhibitionist...

Or, because his character is a middle-aged Swedish journalist trying to solve an impossible cold case.

I'm certain Fincher's choices in music will give the movie an Oscar nod.

EDIT: ofcourse I see on IMDB he directed some music videos

I'm really looking forward to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's score. They're score for "The Social Network" was outstanding. I can only imagine what they will come up with for this.

Arrgh, that's so fucked up. British and American speaking Swedes. Yeah, I'm biased by the original, get off my back already, but at least that was properly done.

@JarodRussell who's attacking you about the original? I'm a huge fan of the original and was originally against the notion of this film, but have come around to being excited about it.

If it bothers you that much, just watch the original movies. :rommie:

Having already seen them, I also think this remake is pointless.

Yeah, same here. In my case, it was that great trailer that turned me around. Before that, I had doubts as to whether even Fincher could put together a decent remake.

That Swedish vampire girl film was also remade in English a while back, but no one actually cared enough to watch it. Not sure why they think this movie will do much better?

Maybe it's the part of my that despises remakes. Prequels/Sequels I can tolerate, but what's the point of remaking films that were only a few years old and mostly liked by the book fans?

^ ^The trailer is the thing that turned me around as well. I'm really curious to see what Fincher does with this. I listened to some of the samples of Reznor's score on the website and dug it. Kind of creepy rock (for lack of a better term).

@Dream, I don't think they want to make a "better" movie. They're just adapting it for a North American audience as well as interpreting some things differently than the original did. Also the vampire movie you're talking about was called "Let Me In" and was directed by Matt Reeves and I believe was critically acclaimed. I enjoyed it a lot. Haven't seen the Swedish version of it yet which is called "Let the Right One In".

That's what I was thinking as well. It just doesn't make any real sense, aside from letting the movie people make more money off of the series itself.

It kind of seems rather redundant.

I saw the Swedish film, and I liked it a lot. But I'm still looking forward to this one.

Maybe it's because I'm a classical music fan, and I'm accustomed to different performers offering different interpretations of the same compositions. But I don't have a problem with remakes of movies--so long as they're good.

New trailer is up. After seeing the first trailer I read the whole trilogy in a week. This trailer at least feels faithful to the book.
