Cringe Trek

I will never get some people's hangup regarding the word "fuck" and its derivations. I mean, it's fine, but I just don't get it. It's just a word that, if used as an adjective, hurts nobody.
"Fuck" isn't an adjective. The gerund form "fucking" and the past tense "fucked" can be used as participial adjectives.

(Okay, so I'm a Grammar Nazi.)

Riker fell in love with a hologram ("11001001")...and still had strong enough feelings for her years later that a telepathic alien assumed she was a viable candidate for his wife ("Future Imperfect").

Janeway fell in love with a hologram, with the encouragement of many of her crew ("Fair Haven")...and felt strongly enough about him that she knowingly risked the lives of two of her crewmembers sooner than shut down the program he was in ("Spirit Folk").

I cringe when our heroic Starfleet officers seem to be having trouble telling fantasy from reality.

I didn't say it was. I said when used as. Form and function are not always the same, especially if you consider diachronic aspects, and a participle or a gerund can have attribute functions. A qualifier qualifies when acting as such, to be cute about it. But I guess you would have to have been there for the according academic debate.

Boy, pedantry sure is fun!

EDIT: what I'm saying is that the grammar did not descend from the heavens. It's a bunch of theories attempting to explain diverse phenomena and usages, not a fixed rule book that only looks at where a comma may be placed (and even that is up for debate depending on how you approach the topic).

I didnt think the TNG skant or skirt uniforms looked good, but I really did like the long tunic dress uniforms.

Same here.
The skant was just awful and ugly and impractical. But I too liked the dress uniforms.
Scotty looked cool in his kilt.
its not the idea of a man wearing a dress - its just cringey for a man to wear an ugly dress that doesn't suit them.
Hey what about a Bollywood dress!

Something I cringe at is Luxanna Troi and Christine Chapel.

All of Star Trek: Insurrection. Save the priveliged white people!
Even though they have zero claim on the planet that will literally save billions of lives! And when a bunch of Native Americans had a similar problem on the show and more of a case, we did the exact opposite! Because fuck those guys!

I really hate this movie, in case nobody had noticed.

All of Geordie LaForge's romantic endeavors were cringeworthy. Someone should have developed a holodeck program to give Starfleet crew members proper dating advice!

Having watched Xena and various other fantasy heroines, yeah I can imagine it.

True, Achilles did look like he could kick some ass.

But, in this universe, they got genetically engineered soldiers on the other side of the galaxy that kill for fun, take steroid drugs every few hours and have no conscience. And got weapons strapped all over them.

On the other side they got a warrior culture that worship a warrior messiah and will eat out your heart.

Otoh, at that particular point in time we had an organization that refuses to say it's a military, doesn't like wargames, only had 50 ships to it's name, and designed a skant with no visible pockets. Where do they put the phaser? If the Dominion invaded then, that's all folks.

It just doesn't seem that practical and it looked like futuristic bad fashion on purpose.

What pockets?

As if anyone they could get to make a program like that would have any experience dating real people.
(I jest.)
